Galanos House is situated on the edge of Southam, a small market town in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside. The home is set within a number of attractive landscaped gardens. The home organises regular shopping trips in their minibus, as well as visits to the nearby historic towns of Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon and Rugby.

At Galanos House, they recognise the importance of residents’ shared experiences. People there form special bonds and make new friends. They offer nursing, residential and dementia care, as well as respite and day care. The home is purpose built and opened on its current site in September 2002. It now has 91 spacious single rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities. The smaller lounge areas and seating alcoves give the home a cosy, comfortable feeling, where you can sit and relax with a good book, enjoy a board game or chat with friends over a coffee. The air-conditioned conservatory gives the space an outdoor feel with an indoor temperature.

The care at Galanos House has been classified as ‘outstanding’ following a Care Quality Commission inspection in November 2017. Galanos House was also named ‘Care Home of the Year 2015’ by the National Care Awards, for its high standard of care and dedicated dementia care unit, Poppy Lodge.

The social side to life at Galanos House is very important. Their wellbeing team make sure there’s always lots to look forward to, including quizzes, art and craftwork, dancing, singing and concerts. Guests are always welcome to join residents for a meal in the dining room. The in-house cinema and bar add to the residents’ enjoyment. Camaraderie, social interaction and helping residents pursue their hobbies and interests play a big part in the day-to-day life at Galanos House.

Very happy with the level of care. The staff are very helpful, courteous and genuinely caring of the residents. It's reassuring for the family members to know that the resident is being looked after, has regular good quality meals and is treated with dignity.

My mother has been a resident at Poppy Lodge, Galanos House for nearly three years and we are so pleased with how well she has settled. The atmosphere at the home is excellent and all the staff make everyone feel welcome and cared for at all times. We all feel so confident in the care that my mother
receives. Lots of activities and things to do make the days so interesting. We could not be happier.

Lovely care home and the wonderful staff take great care of my relative. They know the residents well, know their foibles and are quick to let us know of any changes in their condition. The facilities are excellent and the activities plentiful and varied. Couldn't recommend it enough.

My brother has been a resident at Galanos House since 2006. Throughout this period, I have been immensely impressed with every aspect of the care he has received. In particular, I have valued the various friendly personal contacts I have had with the staff at every level. I greatly admired the range

My wife went to Galanos House in February 2017, when she was taken ill with an infection of the urine. She has had the best care continuously since that date. The nursing staff and the care staff are very conscientious, indeed, helpful, caring and concerned. She has received exemplary treatment, I don't
think is possible anywhere else in the world.

The accommodation, service levels and administration are excellent, however, the overriding feature within Poppy Lodge is the patience, enthusiasm and caring attitude of the staff. It is particularly pleasing to see these aspects displayed by the younger staff.

I am very happy with the care and attention my mum receives. I have only given a 'good' rating for her room as the window catch has been missing for a few weeks. It may, of course, be on the 'to-do' list.
Telephone communication is much improved, although I wish that the staff would answer with their
name. Small point.
Overall, a happy home.

The staff are kind and very caring. The residents are treated with respect and the lead-up to Christmas was very busy and there was plenty of choice for things to do. The home is always clean and feels very welcoming when you enter.

Mum is happy and well looked after, she has a lovely room and lots of activities to enjoy. The staff are warm and friendly and as a family we entrust them to care for our beloved mum. The home is very near to Mum's closest family and visiting is most convenient.

The care and support given to my brother-in-law are excellent.
There is always a warm welcome on our visits to see Brother-in-Law.
The family are kept informed of any changes to his care.
Staff are friendly and answers questions with honesty.
Having cared for my late mother and brother, I am aware
of the level of care required to support a loved one and I feel the home meets a resident's needs on all levels.
Social media page available, keeping family up to date with residents' activities which are varied and enjoyed by all.
As a family, we're included in the welcome and settling in Brother-in-Law's residency at Galanos.
Medical care is excellent.

Galanos House provides as good a care package for my great aunt as I could possibly have hoped for.
Every day is packed full of activities, exercise classes, music, gardening and trips out and about to name a few.
The food is varied and plentiful, with constant offers of cups of tea and coffee on
offer throughout the day and if the resident wants a change of scenery for their cuppa they can also visit the hub (coffee shop/ restaurant), on the site.
The care for residents when ill is excellent, making sure medicines are taken regularly and because a doctor visits once a week they get easy access to medical help when they find it necessary.
Galanos has a hairdresser visit every week and the ladies can also get their nails done regularly if they wish, they even have a small bar where residents can have a social drink.
All in all, a very friendly sociable place to live.

My great-aunt receives excellent care from the friendly and knowledgeable staff at Galanos House. There is a happy atmosphere and all staff are good-humoured even when busy.

Excellent care home, and wonderful caring staff.
Lovely ambience with receptive and responsive staff in all areas of the home.
Excellent facilities for residents and activities and involvement are always available. Home immaculate in every aspect. Cannot fault it.
My uncle has been a resident for
two years. My father was a resident from 2014 - 2016.
My father-in-law was a resident of Poppy Lodge prior to that.
Community Hub is a great addition.

This is where I want to go when I can no longer look after myself.
Everyone and everything and every detail makes everyone feel special.
My mother is 94 and had proudly held out for independence until she fell and badly broke her wrist last November. Since she's been at Galanos, she has been reborn
- no longer lonely and stuck in front of a TV. We now need to book an appointment to see her around choir practice, exercise, quizzing etc.
Her overall physical health has improved immensely thanks to the genuine caring that runs through the DNA of this amazing place.

My mum has recently been poorly with flu symptoms. The home went above and beyond to make sure she had everything she needed. For a couple of nights, someone stayed in her room and monitored her as they were concerned about her health and welfare. My mum has not been eating and the staff have made sure
that my mum had whatever she felt like eating. It was a very worrying time for me and my family but we felt assured that Mum was getting the best possible care.

Jo-Anne Wilson, MBE

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2003

Jo-Anne became the Registered Manager of Galanos House in 2003. Since then she has made a difference in not only the lives of many residents, but also staff members past and present, volunteers, and all the friends that come through the doors of Galanos House.


Jo-Anne was presented with an MBE by His Majesty King Charles III in February 2023; in addition to this, Jo-Anne holds the title of Queen's Nurse and sits on many boards including the Quality Matters board, the Task and Finish group for the RCN, and is the chair of the South Warwickshire Registered Managers Network for Skills for Care.
