Galanos House is situated on the edge of Southam, a small market town in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside. The home is set within a number of attractive landscaped gardens. The home organises regular shopping trips in their minibus, as well as visits to the nearby historic towns of Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon and Rugby.

At Galanos House, they recognise the importance of residents’ shared experiences. People there form special bonds and make new friends. They offer nursing, residential and dementia care, as well as respite and day care. The home is purpose built and opened on its current site in September 2002. It now has 91 spacious single rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities. The smaller lounge areas and seating alcoves give the home a cosy, comfortable feeling, where you can sit and relax with a good book, enjoy a board game or chat with friends over a coffee. The air-conditioned conservatory gives the space an outdoor feel with an indoor temperature.

The care at Galanos House has been classified as ‘outstanding’ following a Care Quality Commission inspection in November 2017. Galanos House was also named ‘Care Home of the Year 2015’ by the National Care Awards, for its high standard of care and dedicated dementia care unit, Poppy Lodge.

The social side to life at Galanos House is very important. Their wellbeing team make sure there’s always lots to look forward to, including quizzes, art and craftwork, dancing, singing and concerts. Guests are always welcome to join residents for a meal in the dining room. The in-house cinema and bar add to the residents’ enjoyment. Camaraderie, social interaction and helping residents pursue their hobbies and interests play a big part in the day-to-day life at Galanos House.

Inside, it feels more like a hotel than a care home - clever use of space to cater for those residents who prefer not to be in large groups.
The staff make Galanos House special. Everyone is welcoming and friendly (for visitors as well as residents). In 5 months I have only seen smiles from the staff.
My mum, who can lack confidence, has warmed to everyone at Galanos House. She is delicately cajoled to get involved and has loved it and continues to do so. For my mum, the balance between private time (in her room) and social time (doing group activities) is perfect. Galanos House is getting it spot on.
The greatest compliment I can pay Galanos House is to say that my mum moved from a house she has lived in for over 70 years and settled into Galanos House beautifully within a week and remains completely and utterly settled and happy. The family could not ask for more. Thank you to all the staff at Galanos House; you are doing an amazing job (and always with warmth and a smile).

Galanos House is a lovely place to be, the staff are very caring and friendly and they always greet you with a smile and ask how you are. You can come and visit whenever you want and spend as much time with your family, it's lovely to be able to take them to the hub for coffee and at Christmas, we had
a lovely family gathering - it was like being in your own home and they cater for everyone and do lots of activities for the residents and also for the community. It is a lovely place to meet up with friends and have a great lunch or afternoon tea.
The facilities are second to none and the rooms have all been newly fitted with showers.
During December, they provided lots of activities in the hub for the community and for the families to join in with, it's such a happy place to be Everyone I speak to says the same, such a friendly place.

Very caring staff who really get to know the resident. The staff have coped well in the current difficult climate and maintain a high level of care and security. The atmosphere is cheerful and the decor and environment are attractive.

Galanos House is a wonderful home. The staff all go the extra mile making both residents and their families feel at home and cared for. Everyone I have met has been friendly and courteous and has gone out of their way to be kind. The management team are visible, being out in the home speaking to people
every day. The care is excellent and the nurses are very competent, the home is clean and fresh, there are lots of choices of food, which is of a high standard. The admin team are very efficient, always greeting people with a happy smile. Nothing is too much trouble. There are so many opportunities for people to get involved in activities, hobbies, trips out and to keep busy. I would recommend Galanos to anyone who is eligible, I really don’t think you will find better.

My brother is so happy at Galanos and joins in with all the activities! The staff are brilliant and my brother is very popular! He had a bad head injury in 1965 and is now partially sighted and mentally disabled.

I had my right leg amputated before I came here and the treatment I have received by all at Galanos House is wonderful. My thoughts are based on what I can do, I have most of my faculties so get on with it. I get on with most people, some more than others. I draw and paint, I write poetry, I'd like
to do more.

Jo-Anne

Jo-Anne Wilson, MBE

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2003

Jo-Anne became the Registered Manager of Galanos House in 2003. Since then she has made a difference in not only the lives of many residents, but also staff members past and present, volunteers, and all the friends that come through the doors of Galanos House.


Jo-Anne was presented with an MBE by His Majesty King Charles III in February 2023; in addition to this, Jo-Anne holds the title of Queen's Nurse and sits on many boards including the Quality Matters board, the Task and Finish group for the RCN, and is the chair of the South Warwickshire Registered Managers Network for Skills for Care.
