My husband has now been in Quinton House Nursing Home & Gardens for 5 years, initially in the dementia unit, and more latterly in the main house.
I cannot praise the staff enough for all their loving care. My husband is so well cared for, that I couldn't ask for more. Nothing is too much trouble, and
everyone from management and staff at all levels are so kind.
My husband is now bed ridden and his needs are extensive, but he is always treated with dignity, respect and kindness. The staff really do go 'above and beyond'.
This kindness also extends to me when I visit, and I feel like one of the family.

My mother's birthday is 1st January her only wish was to see all her 7 children being New Year we were struggling to find a venue, on telling the manager she suggested we have a party at the care home. On arrival we found conservatory had been decorated for us for mums Birthday and party food spread
on the tables with drinks and of course the Birthday cake with candles were provided. This was done as a gift to us and my mum. Needless to say my mum had her wish meet and had a great Birthday.
This is not the first time the care home have put themselves out to provide individual requests for my mum's quality of life.

I find the staff at Quinton House to be caring and kind, also very supportive to me. They always call to advise me of any problems (which are very few) but they also call to advise when my godfathers needs change or medication needs to be reviewed.
They have worked tirelessly to get his skin condition
right to make him as comfortable as possible. I have complete confidence in them. To the extent of getting him a bed that suits his needs.

Can't fault the care mum receives at Quinton House - she is very happy there, and constantly says so! She always looks clean and tidy and is thriving under their care. Visits are always welcomed and without booking an appointment, which makes it so easy to drop in at any time.

The care provided by Quinton House continues to be excellent. My mother is treated with dignity and respect and also with friendliness and warmth. We have been very pleased with the standard of care provided and are confident that my mother is being looked after very well. My only plea is for better
communication with residents' families - it would be so good to go back to getting regular newsletters and the schedules of activities.

My 97-year-old mother recently passed away after being a resident of Quinton House since August 2017. Her journey through dementia started in 2012 after her diagnosis. During this period my mum had previously been in three different homes I had therefore gained quite a lot of experience regarding her
care. All of them were of a good standard, however, Quinton House was by far the best. Not necessarily in grandeur, however, an excellent standard, but in day-to-day, hour by hour, care.

After placing her in the care of Quinton house I felt I had my life back, knowing she was being looked after by a well-picked team whose management was exemplary. Throughout that time I was kept informed of her condition and medication being administered. Unfortunately for part of the time Covid restricted the quantity and quality of my visits, obviously for her protection. Once these were lifted it was wonderful to be able to have physical contact again as this is so important.

Thoughtful and caring, always attentive and compassionate. The staff are faultless in the care of my aunt, who in turn responds to them all easily. After nearly four years here, they really are her family. Their communication with me is comfortable and honest. As time passes and my aunt's condition
worsens this honesty has been very welcome and makes it easier to understand how her condition is progressing. The home and her room, are always clean, tidy and airy and everyone has a smile on their face, a lovely atmosphere to go into when visiting.

My brother-in-law has been in Quinton House Nursing Home for less than a year and the improvement is 100%, his weight and health conditions are stable his overall demeanour is much improved, he is now stable enough for us as a family to take a holiday abroad again and this is something we didn’t think
we would ever be able to manage again, the staff are committed and knowledgable and it shows in the residents, a difficult decision to make but absolutely the right one.

Words alone cannot express the gratitude my son and I feel for the care and devotion given to my husband whilst in the care of Quinton House Nursing Home. The attention to detail to ensure my husband's comfort and ensures he remained pain-free will never be forgotten. My husband deserved the best and
all the staff in their various roles provided the best. Our heartfelt thanks.

I had to move my mother (who suffers from dementia) from another care home where she was definitely not thriving. Arriving at Quinton gardens, under nourished and depressed, the wonderful staff have looked after my mother so well. She is steadily gaining weight and is so much brighter and happier. I
am so relieved to know that my mother is looked after with the patience/kindness and dignity that every vulnerable person deserves. I highly recommend Quinton House and gardens, and I readily thank all of the staff.

Quinton House staff are very kind and caring. When I zoom my husband, it is lovely to see him laughing with the staff; he obviously feels safe and cared for. My husband has been in the nursing home for nearly two years and I have never had any qualms or doubts about its caring ethos. I have also heard
excellent reports about it from others.

The wonderful staff cared for and loved my dear wife during her 2 years at Quinton House despite her occasional dementia fuelled time of awkwardness. I cannot speak too highly of them, constantly watched over by the manager.

We are very happy with the care and attention given to our dad. He always appears clean and happy in the company of his carers. Specifically, when Dad was critically ill earlier in the year, the staff couldn't have been more kind or caring to both Dad and ourselves.
During lockdown, every effort has
been made to help maintain contact with our dad and we have always felt very well informed.

Having been rushed into hospital last October, my husband was then transferred to another unit and from there I finally managed to get him into a shared room at Quinton House. From that time his health has been see-sawing but I have to say the staff and management have been fantastic in both his care
and keeping me informed at all times of any changes. In the last few weeks, I have visited each day as he has been on amber warning (there were strict instructions for me to change clothes, sanitise, apron, mask etc at each visit). The staff are very caring, cheerful and compassionate with a lot of patience. The home has been absolutely brilliant all the way through Covid-19 and the care my husband has received could not have been bettered!

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.140)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.140) out of 10 for Quinton House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.714 for Quinton House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 56 Ratings = 4.714

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.426 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Quinton House Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.4 = 0.926

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m Shirley Beasley, Registered Nurse and the Home Manager of Quinton House & Quinton Gardens Nursing Home.

I have been a qualified nurse for 46 years with a varied career in Nursing. I started working on a children’s ward in 1977 then working on general wards from 1981. In 2002 I went to work in the operating theatres in Worcester, where I gained an ENB qualification in anaesthetics and recovery. I then worked in theatres for 18 years gaining promotion to anaesthetic/recovery sister, deputy manager and then 8 years as Manager at the Winfield Gloucester. In this time my father was diagnosed with vascular dementia, and I eventually gave up my career as Theatre manager to help look after my father. Sadly after 2 years we were unable to nurse him at home and as a family we made the hard decision he need to be cared for in a care home. During this time, I gained the role of clinical lead at a woman’s sexual health clinic in Edgbaston. My dad passed away in June 2019 and it was after much thought and deliberation I made the decision to change my career path and looked for an opportunity to work in a care home in the field of dementia.

I started working in a care home as a registered nurse in February 2020. Then in March, we went into lockdown and this was a baptism of fire. Seeing how Covid 19 affected the elderly and losing residents was devastating. I gained promotion within 12 months to senior nurse then soon after gained promotion again to clinical lead. I found I had great passion working within the dementia unit and being able to empathise with relatives who were making the difficult decision of having to put their loved ones in care. In February 2022 I was made head of care which I helped and supported the manager and deputy manager.

In November 2022 I was promoted again to peripatetic deputy manager and I was a relief deputy manager working in different homes when they needed support.

In July 2023 I was successful in joining the team at Quinton House as Deputy manager/clinical lead, then promoted to Home Manager in January 2024.

I hope my passion for working and caring for the elderly will enhance the team even further to make Quinton a happy and successful home.

Seth Copeland

Job Title: Deputy Manager - Mental Health Lead

My name is Seth Copeland, and I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse with 10 years UK experience.

I previously worked as a financial planning manager and my journey to being a nurse began when I lost a family member to mental health. As a family, we felt due to lack of knowledge in understanding of the condition and its presentation symptoms, as well as the poor service we received from the mental health team led to the unfortunate. I felt the calling to become a nurse, a carer, a person who would do his best to understand and make a difference to others. My mindset was that if I just help one family, I would be pleased.

With my journey so far as a nurse, I worked within the mental health acute units as community mental health nurse CPN within the NHS as a band 6 nurse. I also worked within the community memory team in the NHS which has helped me to accumulate the knowledge and understanding of service users and how to promote quality of care with empathy, compassion and person-centred care, and working collaboratively with families to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the mental health conditions. Specialising in dementia care needs has led me to my present position.

Working in the private sector was very different to the NHS and I found it difficult until I started at Quinton House. Here, I felt not only were there systems and structures in place but also the team ethic and the genuineness, empathy, and compassion of the staff care delivery. I realised we share the same values hence I believed I was in the right place to work with a passion like many others here.

Over the last year, I have experienced the level of care delivered and the transformation that has been made in most of our service users. The commitment to community development among the families, carers, and external agencies has helped to create a working ‘’home from home’’ environment that helps to promotes quality of care delivery to our residents and this can be referenced on carehome.co.uk
