My father has lived in this home for the past sixteen months.
Despite having challenging behaviour, he has settled well.
The home is a warm, welcoming, caring, supportive establishment.
I have seen my father treated with respect, understanding, patience and more firm encouragement appropriately.
The
staff work hard with a difficult and heavy workload and provide good personal care.
Domestic and kitchen staff interact positively with clients.
An activities coordinator notes clients' interests and is aware of their important life events.
The manager is approachable, capable, organised and interacts well with staff and clients.
The home is clean and tidy but clothes and personal possessions go astray (even when named).
Food is quite varied and plentiful but a distracted person with dementia may eat very little and thus lose weight.
I think that more could be done to monitor food and fluid intake in clients with low BMIs.
The feeding of clients by staff is used as a last resort as it is considered to remove autonomy.
The provision and encouragement to eat high calorie/high protein foods "little and often" could address this but it is labour-intensive and difficult to organise in a communal-living setting.

The staff really do care about each individual resident, the new manager has made some great changes. The whole place feels like a large family.

When entering the home the atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff are very friendly. The dining experience is happy and the meals look appetizing. Second helpings are always available. On behalf of my Husband, I feel he is happy in his own way and well cared for. Although we can have drinks whenever
we want I think it would be rather nice to have a small relatives coffee bar with tea, coffee and biscuits. I would certainly use it.

My wife was well looked after. I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and how helpful they were. Some of my wife's clothing went missing but this was probably because I had not labelled them adequately and in a care home situation I'm sure this often happens.
I cannot compare Ashcroft with other
care homes because Ashcroft was the first one my wife has been in but from my observations, it seems well run and efficient.

I am also a care assistant so I see and feel things differently when I go into a home. I get a good feeling in Ashcroft, any concerns I have had were dealt with. The majority of staff are very friendly and helpful.

I think more activities could be done with the residents and a few more exercises would be good for them (chair-based to music). Good staff and kind.

My Mum has been at Ashcroft for 5 months now. During this time, my family has had the opportunity to get to see the realities of life in a care home. We have been very happy with the care that Mum has received so far. The staff are both friendly and patient, to residents and visitors alike. Recently,
my mum celebrated her birthday and I would like to thank all the staff for making it such a very special occasion for her. Dad visits her daily and the week after it was his birthday and they even made a fuss of him too. Thank you again, Ashcroft, for all you do.

Staff are kind and friendly and mum is well cared for, given the challenges faced.
Mum cannot walk unaided and is prone to falls, staff seem to know her well and encourage her to eat, drink and engage socially in a variety of ways. I am pleased that her room is so clean and bright and that her personal
care is good.
Whenever I raise any concerns, be they small or more worrying, they are quickly managed and I feel reassured.
Some of the care staff are absolutely amazing, I would say that the lounge and dining rooms are dimly lit (partly due to position) more light is needed.
Recent appointment of activities coordinator, a great improvement.

Mum is receiving excellent care and is very happy in her world. Staff are patient with her progressing Alzheimer's and spent time to stimulate her and give her a lot of affection, which she loves and helps her stay calm.
Communication is excellent and I am always kept informed.
Good choice of care
home, which is not an easy task.

My Mum was transferred here for the last week of her life; Dad and I are so grateful for the wonderful care provided. Staff were kind and thoughtful, taking every care to ensure that Mum was comfortable and content. The care home is a friendly and positive place even though we were there at a very difficult
time. I was reassured that there seems to be a great culture of care within the team; everyone we met was willing to go out of their way to help and offer support to us as well as Mum.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.863)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.863) out of 10 for Ashcroft Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for Ashcroft Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.363 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashcroft Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.238

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
