The Firs is a delightful home located near the Derbyshire town of Codnor. Resident wellbeing is the absolute focus, as the home works hard to ease every resident into their new environment, recognising that for many people moving into a care home can be a daunting transition. The Firs team wants to reassure visitors that many people move in and discover a newfound sense of freedom and comfort. To support this, residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their cherished possessions.

With a dedicated activities team on-site every day, there are various ways to find enjoyment, from actives in the home to regular trips out. Activities are carefully planned to ensure they are person-centred and meaningful for the individuals residing within the home.

The home continually strives to enhance its services, as demonstrated by the recent development of the cosy lounge and revamped garden. The home also has access to the facilities at Codnor Park such as the new 'Tea Room'.

My husband arrived today. The home is very friendly and welcoming. Very nice.

Mum was admitted on 5th February. Prior to that we made two visits to the home and the staff were very helpful and welcoming to us. Mums admission went well and she has a lovely room with some of her own things to make her feel at home. She has settled in well. We are very impressed with the atmosphere
of the home which feels "homely" and not in a institution. The staff are caring and appear to be interested and enthusiastic in their work. We have attended a meeting of staff and carers and are impressed with their plans for the future. They have even taken everyone to a tea dance which was enjoyed by all. We feel mum is having the best of care.

My father has been a resident at The Firs for a while now. He is settled and happy and we can all tell this. The staff are all warm and friendly and professional, and we are happy as a family that dad is safe and happy. Keep up the good work!

We looked at many care homes before we found The Firs. The warm welcome, friendly atmosphere and happy residents said it all. Mum and dad settled straight in and soon became part of a new and very large family. Mum passed a few days ago and the staff and management have been amazing. They have looked
after dad like he was their own father, lifting his spirits when they can, and taking time to sit and listen when dad wanted to talk. Everyone from the domestics to the management are lovely and do their job with a smile. This is the perfect place for dad.

My mother has been a resident at The Firs for two years and in all that time she has been shown nothing but love, care and understanding. Her dementia can make her difficult to deal with at times, but the care shown by some staff in particular has been outstanding.

I have been at The Firs Nursing Home a few months and at first found it a struggle to live with other people (lived with my brother before) Now I have settled I am very happy here the staff are wonderful and enjoy my meals very much. I feel safe and when I need someone staff are there for me and nothing
is too much trouble. Activities are very good in the home, I don't take part in many I like my own company but I watch what is happening and everyone seems to enjoy taking part.

I love the feeling of going home knowing that something that I have been able to do has had a massive positive impact on the people living in our home.


The residents drive my passion. I have so much love for them, seeing them smile and enjoy living at the home and being able to support people who are on end of life care, knowing that you have provided exactly what they have needed in that time.


I often forget I’m at work because it feels like home. The people around are like family and I love them all dearly.
One day we will be old and I’d like to know that there is someone to fight for me the way I fight for them.
