Ladywood Care Home, located in the popular town of Ilkeston in Derbyshire, provides personalised residential, nursing and residential dementia care to older people.

Ladywood offers residents the choice of a lovely family room, two sitting rooms and a dining area in which to relax, dine and socialise while the large, attractive garden with a patio, which is catered to by some residents, is a popular spot to enjoy the company of friends and family for an afternoon. There’s an in-home hairdressing salon, and two sunny conservatories provide residents with a great setting in which to relax all year around.

Ladywood boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. During the warmer months, the outdoor spaces are the ideal spot for some alfresco dining.

The professional care team at Ladywood takes the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, supporting each person to lead an active and fulfilling life. In addition to the range of activities available, the team also encourages residents to take an active role in the Ilkeston community, from building relationships with neighbours in local community groups and schools, to taking trips out and about in the local area.

I placed my wife in Ladywood in mid-December after undertaking reviews of other care homes. I was very impressed by the extraordinary care that was taken by the manager and indicated from staff members. Whilst my wife thoroughly enjoyed her time, early on the Alzheimer's Dementia took hold and she deteriorated
over her final 4/5 weeks. She was placed in an end-of-life routine and died within 3 weeks. The staff were amazing and caring and supportive. The manager was superb!

What can I say, as soon as I walked into the home, I felt it was the right placement for my dad. He has been treated so well since he arrived. I am very happy with his care. As I cannot visit as much as he would like, the nurses make sure we have contact with each other whenever I called. Overall I
am confident he will do well there. Thanks to all who work there.

Such wonderful staff lots of one-to-one care, always showing dignity and respect in everything they do. Very person-centred. The staff are genuine and enjoy what they do and it shows. It's so good to be able to say goodbye to mum and know she is in capable hands. Thank you to all Ladywood Staff.

Ladywood has exceeded my expectations more than words can describe. The home has gone above and beyond to provide safety, care and compassion for my dad and our family. The manager is the most dynamic, professional and caring person possible. Herself and team have made my dad happy and secure and also
provided regular updates and taken time to answer questions and always given time even when rushed off her feet. Dad describes the home as “wonderful “ and can’t praise the staff enough. The food is exceptional, the cleanliness top class and the social interaction from staff probably the best. The home is clearly well led and the team happy always clearly due to their dynamic manager.
Zoom calls have been wonderful and the COVID procedures in place an example to probably all your other homes. Every member of staff seems to be treated equally and with as importance - cleaning, laundry, nurses alike. I feel happy knowing Dad will end his days there, loved and safe. Thank you, Ladywood

I certainly never wanted my mother to have to go into a nursing home, but it became inevitable. I am so very grateful that I was able to get her into Ladywood. There isn't anywhere better! She is looked after with care and dignity and no small amount of love. My last sentence applies to every member
of staff without exception. I am so very grateful for the care she receives, down to the smallest detail. I just want to put on record my eternal thanks and gratitude.

My father came into the home frail unable to walk very far and in a very low mood. After 4 weeks of wonderful care, he is more mobile, very jolly and back to his old self. Thank you, Ladywood.

My mum moved into Ladywood Care Home in September 2019. I have found Ladywood Care Home to be a very warm and caring home. Mum has settled well, and this is all to the credit of dedicated and wonderful staff. All the staff and management will go that extra mile to ensure each and every residents needs
are net.
I would have recommended this nursing home, and family members of each resident are always welcome and more importantly listened too. I am full of admiration for every member of staff. They are brilliant.

On the whole, my Mother in Law is settled and well looked after. The standard of care is good and the staff interact well with her and her dementia. At present, there is no service for outings and activities which she misses. The home and garden area has had a makeover which has improved the feeling.

Current Review Score: 7.6 (7.632)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.6 (7.632) out of 10 for Ladywood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for Ladywood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.132 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ladywood Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.132

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Fiona

Fiona Gilbert

Job Title: Home Manager

“Kind care to me means offering the best care possible, with well-trained staff who have empathy and a desire to care, in a nice, homely environment”.

As a Registered Nurse, Fiona has gained a wealth of experience providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for residents.

When asked why she chose to work in the care sector, Fiona said it was because: “I have been in nursing for over 38 years, and 35 of those have been spent in child and adult social care, and I want to help people. I came into adult social care after my father was in a nursing home and sadly neither we as a family nor my father as a resident experienced the best care. I want to ensure no one has the same experience that we had.”

Fiona closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and

resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Fiona remarked: “I would say it is about being able to make a difference to people and their families”.

Fiona has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievement being completing a reverse bungee to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital - “never again” promises Fiona!

Outside of work, Fiona enjoys reading, relaxing in her garden, spending time with her family and looking after her pets, dog Oscar and cat Hugo.
