Ladywood Care Home, located in the popular town of Ilkeston in Derbyshire, provides personalised residential, nursing and residential dementia care to older people.

Ladywood offers residents the choice of a lovely family room, two sitting rooms and a dining area in which to relax, dine and socialise while the large, attractive garden with a patio, which is catered to by some residents, is a popular spot to enjoy the company of friends and family for an afternoon. There’s an in-home hairdressing salon, and two sunny conservatories provide residents with a great setting in which to relax all year around.

Ladywood boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. During the warmer months, the outdoor spaces are the ideal spot for some alfresco dining.

The professional care team at Ladywood takes the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, supporting each person to lead an active and fulfilling life. In addition to the range of activities available, the team also encourages residents to take an active role in the Ilkeston community, from building relationships with neighbours in local community groups and schools, to taking trips out and about in the local area.

My mother in law's treatment is very good under the circumstances.
Staff are friendly and helpful but they do seem to be short staffed at weekends.
We have had maintenance issues which have taken a while to be resolved. But they were in the end. But the general care is very good.

Really enjoyed being at home but enjoy having the security of people being around 24 hours a day. I liked to be able to meet people and I don't feel alone.

I have found the staff at Ladywood to be caring and considerate of my dad's needs. He is happy in this home and doesn't complain about his treatment. His Parkinsons disease is under much better control than when he was in his own accommodation. My experience with Ladywood is very positive.

On December 14th my sister will have been at Ladywood Care Home for two years, in that time she has been treated with nothing but kindness and care. All the staff from the management, carers, cooks, cleaners and maintenance care for the residents. For myself I know when I go home after visiting my wife
I know that she will be cared for and that is a big comfort for me.

I went to see her today 18/08/2018 and she looks like she is cared for very well. The rooms are very nice and have their own TVs. The carers are very nice and seemed to care for each and everyone there. Lovely place. I have only put satisfactory in the answers to Food & Drink and Activities because
I honestly don't know.

My Brother in Law has been here for approximately 4 months. He has settled well. The staff have really welcomed him and he has a laugh and a chat with him. He says the food is very good and he is happy living here.

Although our visit was only for a few hours, I was impressed by the attention given to my cousin. The manager was most caring and attentive and ensured that we were well cared for during our visit in the home, a place to meet or chat with food and drink.
I received the distinct impression that this
is a well-run, efficient and caring nursing home.

My aunt came into this home for respite care after a very bad experience with another home (we had to remove her after only two days). Ladywood was a great relief.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, the home is modern, clean and bright and I felt that my aunt was safe and being well looked after.

All the staff are always very helpful, pleasant and approachable. I am extremely happy with the care given and know that mum is safe and looked after.

She loves having activity days and is happiest when able to get outside or enjoy the garden. Thank you.

We have noticed a big improvement in the running of the home. Management is 100% better recently, since changes have been made.
Relatives have been made more welcome, with a pleasant attitude towards them. Efforts have been made to encourage relatives to express their views, but meetings have been
poorly supported.
Many thanks to the management and staff who have turned the home into a much more pleasant and comfortable residence.
Keep up the good work.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Ladywood Care Home

I have just spoken to the reviewer about her review, what she meant was, that since I have taken over as Acting manager we have had two relatives meeting and the reviewer and her husband are the only relatives that have turned up. We do have posters up for meeting dates and times, she just said that she hoped more relatives turn up to support us on the 21st when the next meeting is scheduled.

My husband has been in Ladywood for two and a half years now and I have to say the staff and manager are all very friendly, kind and most helpful.
He is so happy there and I have nothing but praise for all concerned, nothing is too much trouble. It is good to know how well he is treated.

Current Review Score: 7.6 (7.632)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.6 (7.632) out of 10 for Ladywood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for Ladywood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.132 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ladywood Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.132

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Fiona

Fiona Gilbert

Job Title: Home Manager

“Kind care to me means offering the best care possible, with well-trained staff who have empathy and a desire to care, in a nice, homely environment”.

As a Registered Nurse, Fiona has gained a wealth of experience providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for residents.

When asked why she chose to work in the care sector, Fiona said it was because: “I have been in nursing for over 38 years, and 35 of those have been spent in child and adult social care, and I want to help people. I came into adult social care after my father was in a nursing home and sadly neither we as a family nor my father as a resident experienced the best care. I want to ensure no one has the same experience that we had.”

Fiona closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and

resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Fiona remarked: “I would say it is about being able to make a difference to people and their families”.

Fiona has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievement being completing a reverse bungee to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital - “never again” promises Fiona!

Outside of work, Fiona enjoys reading, relaxing in her garden, spending time with her family and looking after her pets, dog Oscar and cat Hugo.
