Ladywood Care Home, located in the popular town of Ilkeston in Derbyshire, provides personalised residential, nursing and residential dementia care to older people.

Ladywood offers residents the choice of a lovely family room, two sitting rooms and a dining area in which to relax, dine and socialise while the large, attractive garden with a patio, which is catered to by some residents, is a popular spot to enjoy the company of friends and family for an afternoon. There’s an in-home hairdressing salon, and two sunny conservatories provide residents with a great setting in which to relax all year around.

Ladywood boasts a selection of specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. During the warmer months, the outdoor spaces are the ideal spot for some alfresco dining.

The professional care team at Ladywood takes the time to learn about each resident’s individual hobbies and interests, supporting each person to lead an active and fulfilling life. In addition to the range of activities available, the team also encourages residents to take an active role in the Ilkeston community, from building relationships with neighbours in local community groups and schools, to taking trips out and about in the local area.

My father has vascular dementia and came to Ladywood from another care home. At that time, his condition was deteriorating rapidly, his arms were bruised, he was very unhappy and his speech was getting less clear. He had suffered several falls.

Since moving he has improved considerably, his arms

are now clear of bruising, his speech has improved, he rarely falls and he is clearly more content with life. The carers are kind and caring. There is good communication from the staff about all aspects of his care.

My father was a resident at Ladywood for nearly two years prior to his death on the 1st of June. I want to say how homely this care home is and how wonderful and caring the staff are!
His whole family are very grateful for the care given to him, especially in the last week of his life. It was everything
you would want for a loved one.
We were given such a huge amount of support in the last few days; drinks, food and even a hug when needed it! Good people doing their very best to care - this is Ladywood.

Mum has been here for a year, she is cared for in every way. The home is a friendly and happy environment. The residents are treated well, today I saw various carers chatting to residents in a lovely manner. I'm very happy that mum is happy and I know all her needs are catered for.

My mother is well looked after at Ladywood Nursing Home. We don't live close by so only visit occasionally but are always made to feel welcome when we arrive. My mother always seems well cared for, always clean and tidy and in a wheelchair for us to take her into the family room where we can spend some
private time with her. Her bedroom is always clean and tidy with her personal things around. The staff speak to her with respect and in a professional and friendly manner.

The only fault I have found was when Mum was bathed and hair washed they didn't comb/brush her hair flat. Everything else was brilliant, can't fault the female manager, she is extremely kind and caring. She celebrated her 89th birthday this month and provided a room so we could spend quality time with
her and have a celebration.

Current Review Score: 7.6 (7.632)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.6 (7.632) out of 10 for Ladywood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for Ladywood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (6 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.132 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ladywood Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.132

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Fiona Gilbert

Job Title: Home Manager

“Kind care to me means offering the best care possible, with well-trained staff who have empathy and a desire to care, in a nice, homely environment”.

As a Registered Nurse, Fiona has gained a wealth of experience providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards of care and quality of life for residents.

When asked why she chose to work in the care sector, Fiona said it was because: “I have been in nursing for over 38 years, and 35 of those have been spent in child and adult social care, and I want to help people. I came into adult social care after my father was in a nursing home and sadly neither we as a family nor my father as a resident experienced the best care. I want to ensure no one has the same experience that we had.”

Fiona closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and

resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Fiona remarked: “I would say it is about being able to make a difference to people and their families”.

Fiona has also achieved much outside of work, with her proudest achievement being completing a reverse bungee to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital - “never again” promises Fiona!

Outside of work, Fiona enjoys reading, relaxing in her garden, spending time with her family and looking after her pets, dog Oscar and cat Hugo.
