The Meadows in Alfreton are immensely proud to hold the Quality Premium Award from Derbyshire County Council and to have consistently achieved excellent scores in the annual NHS audit of nursing care (98.46% in the most recent audit).

The Meadows is a purpose-built care home surrounded by landscaped gardens. An inviting patio is much used by residents, particularly on a warm and sunny day.

Home-cooked meals cater for all dietary and cultural needs, and snacks and hot and cold drinks are available 24 hours a day. And of course, family and friends are welcome to join their relative for meals.

On the social front, an activities coordinator organises entertainment and in-house activities to suit all tastes, including baking and crafts, flower arranging and much more.

Above all, highly experienced nurses and carers are devoted to making residents feel both nurtured and at home.

Having my mamar play such a crucial role in my life it was not an easy decision for my myself and family to move her to a care home. However the support of the manager and the staff has been outstanding and seeing my mamar settle in so well over these past couple of months has been so reassuring that
she is getting the best care she deserves. The manager has been able to answer any questions and has gone out of his way to ensure that my family and I have felt reassured.
It is clear when you visit that the staff care so well for the residents and there's often activities and entertainment happening. I can't thank the management and staff enough for the care and support all the residents and their families receive.

My father has spent a few months in The Meadows so far following an acute stroke in May. Dad being in a care home has been an adjustment for us all (he is 68), but the manager and his friendly, helpful team have really helped this go as smoothly as possible. The staff have really made Dad feel at home.
They try to make light of situations with him and build rapport. The food is brilliant, which is great as it has really encouraged Dad to eat. This is brilliant as he had to have a peg feed fitted in hospital due to his oral intake being so low. Now he is doing really well and will hopefully be able to have this removed soon.
One nurse in particular has been extremely supportive and provided exceptional support to us as a family. The manager himself has really supported us as a family as we face an uncertain trial period of Dad returning home. He has always responded to my calls and emails and I could not be more thankful for this level of support at such a difficult time for us all.

My wife, who has a diagnosis of advanced vascular dementia, entered The Meadows in early January and from day one she has been treated exceptionally well, because of her condition my wife gets confused and withdrawn when confronted with change, but the staff, who are all kind, caring and friendly, have
shown a great deal patience and understanding with her and she now seems to be settling in nicely. From the first meeting with the manager, he has shown an awareness and understanding of my wife's condition and her future care requirements, he has also been supportive and informative, always available to answer any questions or queries I've had, as indeed are all his staff. I feel reassured that my wife will be well looked after at The Meadows.

I am so happy with the care home, my father is a resident and I am happy that he is cared for at all times, the staff are always polite and friendly and the home always has a warm, homely atmosphere. I understand the staff work so hard but always make time for everyone, I met the new manager and he
was very welcoming and easy to talk to, I never met the previous manager but the new maanger went out his way to meet and greet me which is lovely. I work in the same sector so I know time is precious but nothing was to much trouble. The only thing I would like to change if possible is the size of my father's bedroom but it is made nice for him but feel he would benefit from a larger space. Great staff, great manager and a lovely home from home environment.

Mum was given 1 month to find another care home/nursing home in October 2023. Reason being mum had 3/4 grade pressure sores and 14 investigations going on with previous home.
The turn round at this new nursing home is something short of miracle, excellent home.

My mother is currently residing in your care home. Having suffered from a severe stroke late last year and spent over three months in hospital, it came as a great relief to all of us that she was accepted into Rose Court. We knew the home quite well as my Grandma had been in there for a while until
she passed away eleven years ago. Some of the staff are still working there and remember my mum and dad from their regular visits. Mum is now very settled and as happy as she can be with all her disabilities. The staff are truly wonderful and very caring not only to mum but all the residents. We couldn't have chosen a better place for her. Thank you.

My husband had been using The Meadows, Lavender Court for a few years for respite breaks. When the time came to be a permanent resident last May, that's where he wanted to be. Despite a 50-mile round trip for me to visit, I wouldn't have wanted him anywhere else. Excellent care and a lovely atmosphere.
When he moved to the nursing side, Rose Court, the good quality continued. In his final months, he was treated with dignity and compassion. I cannot praise all of The Meadows staff highly enough, nurses, carers, cooks and cleaners.

After 4 years as a resident at The Meadows, my mum passed away in January. She had excellent end-of-life care and her immediate family was able to spend quality time with her in her final hours. I have always had an exceptional relationship with the staff and I would not hesitate to recommend The Meadows.

Although my mum was only in The Meadows care for three weeks before she died, I was very impressed with the care she received. All the staff were very kind, especially during her last few days, which I think was a great comfort to her.

The team at the Meadows cared for my mum for over 3 years, with care, compassion, and understanding every step of the way, from when we phoned looking for help at short notice, to her passing away. Mum was very much treated as an individual during her time at the Meadows, and at the end of life, the
team ensured that her wishes and best interests were respected, for which we were very thankful and it allowed her to pass peacefully as she would have wanted. Thank you to the whole team for the care given during mum's time with you.

My father came directly from hospital and was taken care of immediately and I was updated by staff at The Meadows Dad settled quite well, although his eyesight stopped him from joining in with activities. Everyone was very friendly and helpful with Dad. Unfortunately, he was only with them for 13 days
when he suddenly passed away.

My husband had 2 weeks of respite in The Meadows Care Home and the care he received was great.
My husband was encouraged to join in activities which he had never done. I was asked if they could put photos on the social media page which I said yes and I was happy to see him smiling cutting up carrots
and apples which he has never done. Thank you to all at The Meadows.

My cousin, who is diagnosed with dementia, has been in residence at The Meadows since December 2022 and settled in very quickly after admission. I am my cousin's only relative and I know she is now in an extremely safe, welcoming and friendly environment. All personnel at the home are very caring and
accessible, always available to discuss any issues or medical health concerns that may arise.

Unfortunately, as my mum has quite advanced vascular dementia, she cannot remember even coming into your care, so it is difficult for us to comment. The only thing she keeps mentioning is having her nails painted and my cousin visiting her in his kilt etc, he is a bagpiper and had done a funeral. She
came out with hardly any of her clothes she went in with. I realise it is difficult once they are in the laundry, so next time I will bring her a linen basket to put her dirty washing in and I will wash it when she comes home.

My aunt was only with The Meadows for a short time before she passed away. In that time, she always had nice things to say about the staff, the food and how comfy her bed was. She enjoyed lunch at a pub nearby one day, to my surprise. The Meadows is always decorated at special times of the year and
residents get involved, no matter what their handicap may be. The maintenance man was very helpful when putting up pictures and TV in her room. We were always welcomed when visiting and had tea when we wanted. Care and support were always available and the staff with a sense of humour too.

My mother seemed to settle well and enjoy her stay. It is difficult with her memory issues to find a lot out, but she did mention how much she enjoyed the food. She also said she would be happy to go again. My brother and I were very grateful and appreciated being away without worrying about our mother.

Mum was in Lavender Court for 4 years, and they were the best years we could ask for, they looked after Mum with dignity, respect and most of all love. I felt safe knowing Mum was in the best care anyone could ask for and I never had a day's worry when she was there. The staff go above and beyond in
everything they do, and every single one of them deserves a medal. My respect and thanks are just not enough to say how much they did for Mum. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to give their loved ones the best care that you can no longer give them yourself. When Mum was able to talk, she would always tell the staff and myself what a wonderful day she had had, everything she took part in meant so much to her, and when she was no longer able to take part, there was always someone to have a chat and a giggle with her. Mum has now moved next door to Rose Court, and staff still pop in for a cuddle and a chat, showing again the care love and respect they have for all the residents

Since leaving school at the age of 16, I have worked in adult social care, with both the elderly and those with learning disabilities.


I started my career as a care assistant with Nottinghamshire County Council and worked my way up to a management position over a period of 15 years. During this time I completed my NVQ Level 4 in Care and Level 4 in Management and then went on to complete my Leadership and Management in Care Services Award.


I left Nottinghamshire County Council after 22 years looking for a new venture and joined the team at the Meadows as their Registered Manager in 2013.
