A retirement home of elegance and distinction. Milford House, a beautiful grade II listed building and its adjoining Coach House were transformed into a tastefully renovated retirement home in 1985.

Actively involved in the national Dignity Challenge campaign, with many members of staff taking on the role of Dignity Champions. This campaign is all about putting dignity and respect at the centre of care services, with a great emphasis on treating people with compassion and respect. Dignity Champions ensure that all residents are listened to, respected and treated as individuals, and that care delivery is dictated by residents.

I always describe Milford House as 'home from home' and cosy. I would always recommend this home to anyone. I find the staff friendly and helpful even when things are busy.
The main thing for me is, is Mym looked after? The answer is yes.
To relatives, this is one less thing to worry about.

My mum has recently moved to the Coach House area of the home and we are very happy with her transition to this area. The staff are all very friendly and attentive to all the residents. Mum moved to get the extra nursing care she needs now. The Coach House has a warm and relaxing atmosphere, the peacefulness
and staff interaction with all help the residents to enjoy their stay knowing they are being well cared for. Thank you.

Since my mum arrived at Milford the staff have been amazing with her. They are so considerate and kind. Although my mum doesn't always join in with the activities, there's always something happening everyday.

I couldn't wish for a better place for my mum to live. She is happy, loved and so well cared for. The staff are so kind and compassionate, they treat every resident like family. The home is always clean and there is always something going on for the residents. It's like a hotel!

Very happy with the care Mum receives. Proffessional, caring, friendly staff.

Staff are great, always lots of entertainment. Always friendly and smiling. They are very caring and conscientious. The food is lovely, lots of activities for people to take part in. I would always be willing to recommend the home to others.

Visiting my mum is a great experince. Coming to the home feels like an extension of my home and part of my family. I know most of the staff by name and I'm always made to feel very welcome. My mum is very well looked after and all her needs are met. My siblings and I are pleased that Mum is a resident.
We are kept fully informed of her condition. Mum is as happy and content as she can be given her condition of which all the staff are fully aware. Yes, I would recommend this home.

My mum has lived at the Coach House since 2020. She has advanced dementia with significant and challenging behavioural problems. Under the outstanding leadership of the lead nurse, the nursing team have managed my mum's dementia care with a professional, caring, consistent and supportive approach. Mum
is calm, clean, well fed and comfortable whenever I visit, which is quite an achievement. Despite Mum's complex and demanding illness, she has been treated with respect, dignity and kindness and the staff have ensured that she is able to live her best possible life. I will always be grateful to them for this.

Mum is really well looked after at Milford House. She seems very settled and happy. The food is lovely and she eats so much better here than she did at home, as she has got company.
All the communal areas are always clean and tidy, Mum's room is perfect for her. She especially loves her orchid.

When my mom's dementia got to the point where she couldn't safely remain in her home, she moved initially to a care home in Scotland near my sister. She was there for six months but never really settled. The food that was served had no resemblance to the menu. And activities happened once in a blue
moon. In the end, we decided to move her down near me. I looked at several residential homes near the area and Milford house seemed the best. Albeit slightly more expensive than the others. The carers are genuinely caring. There are lots of activities. The food is pretty good and the rooms are nice. The lift is noisy, but it's an old building so perhaps unavoidable.

My father has been a resident in Milford House Care Home since July 2024, having had a short respite stay beforehand. He has always been treated with kindness and respect by all the staff, who are equally friendly and welcoming to visitors at all times. My father particularly enjoys the food and company
at the home and loves having a chat and sharing jokes with the staff. There are regular activities arranged for residents, which they clearly enjoy and often include family, friends and the wider community. Although he has had several health challenges during his stay; these have been dealt with very professionally at all times and this gives me great confidence that he is being well cared for at Milford House.

My father had to move into Milford before Christmas as his dementia had become too much for the family to cope with. The manager and his team provide excellent care. The Montessori philosophy creates a calm atmosphere within the home. The food and activities are excellent. The place feels more like
a home than a clinical institution. It is welcoming, comfortable and relaxing.

Milford House has always been a warm and welcoming place for my Mother. Years ago she was visiting friends and relatives there and now she’s a resident. So, she’s now able to enjoy the care and respect she’s getting in her latter years and I get to visit her regularly and see how well she’s being looked
after. The home is always well-ordered and there are many activities organised for those who are able. Mum can connect well with the staff and I’m sure this is the place she’s happy for her closing years.

Job Title: Registered Home Manager

I didn’t have the most traditional start to a career in care! I trained as an accountant in London, and after many years in the practice, I realised I wanted to give back to the community and pursued work in the social care sector. In 2014, I began my new career as a care assistant and immediately discovered a passion for providing care for the elderly. I was delighted to work in a role that genuinely made a difference in the lives of those needing support.


After working in the role for a year, my manager at the time asked me if I would like to become the trainer within that organisation, eventually becoming Deputy and then heading up to Manager. This allowed me to promote my person-centred values amongst the staff and make a real difference to the people we were caring for.


Once my four children had flown the nest, my wife and I moved to Derbyshire seeking a more relaxing way of life. We adore the area and as a keen runner, there are many tracks and trails from which I try to better my PB! I am lucky enough to have joined the Milford family as the Registered Home Manager. At Milford House, we deliver care following the Montessori way, which takes person-centred care to even higher levels. The empowerment of our residents to live with a purpose at our home is something that I am really excited to be a part of.
