A retirement home of elegance and distinction. Milford House, a beautiful grade II listed building and its adjoining Coach House were transformed into a tastefully renovated retirement home in 1985.

Actively involved in the national Dignity Challenge campaign, with many members of staff taking on the role of Dignity Champions. This campaign is all about putting dignity and respect at the centre of care services, with a great emphasis on treating people with compassion and respect. Dignity Champions ensure that all residents are listened to, respected and treated as individuals, and that care delivery is dictated by residents.

A reputation for providing excellent care goes well beyond the immediate locality. This is why residents come from different parts of Derbyshire, including Duffield, Hazelwood, Quarndon, Allestree, Coxbench, Derby, Ashbourne, Turnditch, Wirksworth, Matlock and Belper.

The staff at Milford House are always friendly and thoughtful. I can tell that they have a genuine affection for my dad. It gives me peace of mind to know that he is being well looked after and that both the care and nursing teams put 100% into their roles.

My Mum spent her final years at the Coachhouse Milford. During this time she was extremely well cared for, especially during the Covid days. The staff were very tolerant of her little ways, she walked for miles visiting everyone. As she deteriorated the care altered to cater for her needs. The nurses
did a great job. The care assistants made friends with Mum, she seemed to love this. Mum always said 'This is my Happy House.' The Coach House was always clean and tidy, the cleaners do a stirling job, they always had time for Mum. Thank you all very much.

My mother has been a resident at Milford House since November 2018 and has been at the Coach House since May 2022.
She has always been very well looked after and very happy and settled. All the staff are very friendly, caring and helpful.
The care home is always clean with a nice friendly atmosphere.

Visitors are welcome at anytime 24/7. Nowhere is off limits. Staff are welcoming and approachable. Visitors are offered refreshments which seem to be available to residents at all times. Staff keep me, as a primary point of contact, updated on any changes in my sister’s physical and psychological condition,
including any change in her medication. Personal spaces are clean and well-furnished.

In the most difficult of circumstances at end-of-life care for our Mum, Milford (Coach House) has exceeded expectations and gone above and beyond to make this a positive and comforting experience and picked up where we are unable to with our own life and jobs getting in the way. They have made a difference
to end-of-life care which the hospital could not do any more. This has given us valuable time to have the conversations we needed to have with our loved one and provided vital support to us in our most despairing moments. We are forever grateful for this being our lasting memory and know that Mum is in safe hands and that they are doing all they can for us and to give us as much time as possible with Mum by attending to her basic needs to keep her comfortable and remain with us for as long as possible.
I hope that all of the staff caring for Mum in both nursing and residential care receive this message of thanks. Their daily actions have made a difference to us and to our Mum.

Myself and my son visited Mum immediately before Christmas. Mum was still in bed, tired and grumpy! The staff were attentive and encouraging with lots of patience.
Once Mum was up and dressed we were invited to join her in the dining room.
Mum was cheerful and enjoyed her food and drink.
She then
was transferred by wheelchair at her request into the lounge where we opened some Christmas presents.
She was cheerful when we left.

My mother has been a resident of Milford House since March 2022, initially for respite care then permanently.
I visit weekly and try to attend as many events as I can.
The home itself is gracious, beautifully furnished and in no way institutionalised.
The rooms are a pleasant size and the furniture
is well placed for convenience and safety. There are never any unpleasant smells or smells of disinfectant. The ambience is calm and welcoming.
The staff are wonderful. Friendly and obliging towards residents and visitors. Nothing is too much trouble, however busy they are. They are proactive in providing activities and diversions. There are entertainments both from the staff themselves and from visiting entertainers.
The staff treat the residents with respect and are mindful of their dignity. Following a recent illness, I expressed the wish that, unless necessary, Mum be kept at Milford rather than go to hospital as I feel she would receive far better care.
I would recommend Milford to anyone.

My father became a resident of Milford House Care Home in September 2023. It is a beautifully decorated and clean building which, in some ways, feels more like a hotel than a care home. My father has a lovely bedroom with an ensuite and he settled in very quickly. The level of personal care, the food
and the entertainment/activities are all excellent. It gives us peace of mind that my father is safe, warm and well cared for. We couldn't wish for a better place for him.

The care and kindness shown to mum by all staff has been exceptional.
When staff are busy they still make the time to talk and encourage residents and are always patient.
I have visited several nursing homes but Milford House is outstanding in what they do

My mother has been so well cared for since arriving at Milford House in late February just before her 90th birthday. All the carers and staff etc have been amazing with her and her family and nothing is too much trouble. She is now receiving palliative care and it is so reassuring for her family that
she is comfortable and being so well cared for, it gives us all peace of mind. I can't recommend this home enough.

Overall experience is very good. The staff are very friendly and helpful and residents are taken care of. Granny seems to enjoy her time here a lot and is very comfortable. I visited for the coronation party and really enjoyed the food and activities on offer.

As I live 70 miles away from Milford House I am only able to visit my mother once a week. Since she only took residence in November 2021 and the home has been closed during that period for several weeks due to COVID I have not been able to visit that often. However, my experiences have always been very
good.
The building itself is lovely, clean and comfortable with a lovely garden for the residents. All the staff are very welcoming and very kind, helpful and supportive to the residents. There is a very happy, friendly ambience in the home. Nothing is too much trouble and I am completely reassured that my mother is well looked after at all times.

They certainly look after the residents.
My only query is why if they need the toilet is everyone is upstairs and nobody to help hoist the residents to the toilet.
The lounges are comfortable and very clean.
I have got on with all the staff.
Would highly recommend it.

We looked at a number of residential homes in the area and Milford House made our decision very simple, it was the perfect 'home from home' feel we were after. Everything from the staff members, food and activities, to the sitting rooms and bedrooms are immaculate and have a large open feel to them.
Ideally located just off the A6, parking was never a problem, which made visiting effortless. The Facebook page is also a great way to keep in touch with what is going on at the home. Thank you to all the staff for looking after Grandma so well. Keep up the great work, you're a credit to the sector. Best Regards

Mum was taken ill in late April, with the speedy response and in the care of the carers is now making great progress in her recovery. After leaving the hospital she was so happy to be back at Milford House and amongst her friends. Mum always tells me how lovely the carers are to her which also makes
me happy.

Mark Binns

Job Title: Registered Home Manager

I didn’t have the most traditional start to a career in care! I trained as an accountant in London, and after many years in the practice, I realised I wanted to give back to the community and pursued work in the social care sector. In 2014, I began my new career as a care assistant and immediately discovered a passion for providing care for the elderly. I was delighted to work in a role that genuinely made a difference in the lives of those needing support.


After working in the role for a year, my manager at the time asked me if I would like to become the trainer within that organisation, eventually becoming Deputy and then heading up to Manager. This allowed me to promote my person-centred values amongst the staff and make a real difference to the people we were caring for.


Once my four children had flown the nest, my wife and I moved to Derbyshire seeking a more relaxing way of life. We adore the area and as a keen runner, there are many tracks and trails from which I try to better my PB! I am lucky enough to have joined the Milford family as the Registered Home Manager. At Milford House, we deliver care following the Montessori way, which takes person-centred care to even higher levels. The empowerment of our residents to live with a purpose at our home is something that I am really excited to be a part of.
