A retirement home of elegance and distinction. Milford House, a beautiful grade II listed building and its adjoining Coach House were transformed into a tastefully renovated retirement home in 1985.

Actively involved in the national Dignity Challenge campaign, with many members of staff taking on the role of Dignity Champions. This campaign is all about putting dignity and respect at the centre of care services, with a great emphasis on treating people with compassion and respect. Dignity Champions ensure that all residents are listened to, respected and treated as individuals, and that care delivery is dictated by residents.

A reputation for providing excellent care goes well beyond the immediate locality. This is why residents come from different parts of Derbyshire, including Duffield, Hazelwood, Quarndon, Allestree, Coxbench, Derby, Ashbourne, Turnditch, Wirksworth, Matlock and Belper.

Staff have kept my relative happy and entertained throughout the pandemic whilst family have been unable to visit. My granny is encouraged to maintain her independence which is so signifying and important for her self esteem. I have peace of mind knowing my relative is safe and happy.

I am very happy with my mum staying at Milford House, even though contact and visiting has been very limited due to COVID, she seems to be happy and settled. She enjoys her meals, particularly the puddings. I am 100% happy with the care she is receiving and the staff are brilliant. The visiting system
is extremely well organised and government guidelines are adhered to. Thank you, Milford.

My mum has been a resident here since 2014 and has always received exceptional care. During 2020 it was difficult for me to visit as I live down south but I did manage to get up there to visit Mum last November. As always the care home staff followed the covid guidelines during my short visit. The care
home staff are really friendly and helpful and look after all the residents extremely well. The home always looks very clean and has been re-decorated over the last few years which makes it warm and inviting. The gardens are also managed very well. The Manager and staff are always available for questions in need and keep my sister and me updated if there are any issues with Mum as she is now 96. The monthly newsletter from the home also keeps us updated on things happening there. Security at the home is also very good.

When my wife, who is also my carer, was admitted to hospital, I spent one week at Milford House in respite. This was my first experience with such a facility, but I have visited people in other homes. I can safely say that this was by far the best, where each and every staff member smiled and acknowledged
me on arrival. My room was excellent, well equipped and newly decorated. The food was first class and the overall care second to none. At all times I was treated with great respect and I wish to say a huge thank you to all.

All staff are kind and caring - nursing, carers, kitchen and admin staff.
There is a couple of ladies who arrange activities which include bingo, crafts, music, special things for special seasons etc.
There is a service once every two weeks given by the local Baptist Church and Holy Communion once
a month.
They also have trips out for a buffet and tea dance, to a garden centre, river gardens and other trips out.
I feel that residents are well cared for.
A good breakfast and varied diet.

My mum has settled in really well following the sudden death of her husband who previously cared for her.
Staff are really friendly and very attentive to all the residents.
Mum has shown no distress at all and is very content and happy here.
She enjoys the food which has a good choice and is very
plentiful. The room is a good size and very clean having been recently decorated.

Great care given to my dad, the staff are very efficient, caring and seem happy with the work they do.
My dad loves his food and eats plenty throughout the day and is never refused anything he wants. The care given to him put me and my family's mind at ease, he has never asked to come home, which
says it all.

My mother came to Milford after her health deteriorated to the point I could no longer care for her. She settled in very quickly due to the kindness and wonderful care of all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and all her needs were met. The staff at Milford House looked after her until the end
and I cannot thank them enough for their care and compassion. I would not hesitate to recommend Milford House to anyone looking for a care home for their loved ones.

At 84, Mum's health was deteriorating and she no longer felt comfortable in her own home and could not cope. Milford House is bright, clean, tastefully decorated and welcoming. The staff, most importantly, the carers, are warm and friendly and truly show they care and have made what is a difficult
transition a much easier one for Mum. Thank you all! P.S. Food is great.

My father has lived in Milford House Care Home for almost a year. Throughout this time he has been treated with respect and kindness.
He suffers from dementia and at times becomes confused. During such times the staff have been patient and caring. He always responds positively to staff and seems relaxed
and contented.
Regular activities are organised, either as a group or with individual residents. Visitors are given a warm reception and the management are friendly and approachable.

Job Title: Registered Home Manager

I didn’t have the most traditional start to a career in care! I trained as an accountant in London, and after many years in the practice, I realised I wanted to give back to the community and pursued work in the social care sector. In 2014, I began my new career as a care assistant and immediately discovered a passion for providing care for the elderly. I was delighted to work in a role that genuinely made a difference in the lives of those needing support.


After working in the role for a year, my manager at the time asked me if I would like to become the trainer within that organisation, eventually becoming Deputy and then heading up to Manager. This allowed me to promote my person-centred values amongst the staff and make a real difference to the people we were caring for.


Once my four children had flown the nest, my wife and I moved to Derbyshire seeking a more relaxing way of life. We adore the area and as a keen runner, there are many tracks and trails from which I try to better my PB! I am lucky enough to have joined the Milford family as the Registered Home Manager. At Milford House, we deliver care following the Montessori way, which takes person-centred care to even higher levels. The empowerment of our residents to live with a purpose at our home is something that I am really excited to be a part of.
