Spencer Grove has recently been rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC – February 2020. The home provides unique facilities with the very best in comfort and care in a stimulating environment. Spencer Grove provides nursing and residential care and offers both long-term and short-term (respite) care.

All bedrooms offer en-suite facilities (some including wet room shower) and can be furnished to suit the needs of the residents. Spencer Grove also has residential 'Care Suites' - offering all the benefits of residential care but contained within a beautifully appointed apartment, most with stunning, elevated views of the surrounding landscape.

For those with a love of the great outdoors the beautiful south-facing rooftop gardens provide stunning views across the Derbyshire countryside and offer a wonderful place to relax.

But the heart of Spencer Grove is its people. Staff receive extensive training so that they can deliver the best service to residents. Many have NVQ Level 2 diplomas in health and social care and also receive specialist training in end-of-life and dementia care.

Their activity co-ordinators work alongside residents to design a varied programme of activities including armchair exercise classes, painting and crafts and pampering days. Spencer Grove Care Home has an onsite hair salon and twice-weekly visits from a local hairdresser. The home also has a chiropodist who visits every eight weeks.

My dad was a resident at Spencer Grove for end of life care. Staff were very nice, room very nice. You wouldn't get anything any better, no matter where you went.

First class facility - staff very caring throughout the home. Great to see smiles on faces, both staff and residents. Mum has been treated very well throughout her stay - she has no complaints whatsoever.

Mum has been at Spencer Grove for three and a half years. The home is clean, some updating of the bedroom carpet is required. The home has been helpful and allowed Mum to decorate her room to her taste.
Food and drink is good and there is a good selection. There is no restriction on visiting hours,
some minor improvements are possible, ie, staff communication.

My mother has had really good care at Spencer Grove and appears really well now. She has been staying for respite whilst I have been away. She especially likes the activities provided. Shortage of staff has been a concern to her but the staff do the very best they can.

My middle sister spent 6 years of happiness in this home. She came to them in not a good state but with the care and love she was given she blossomed.

It is a very friendly home, everyone is good with the residents. If there is anything you need, all you have to do is ask, if you have a problem the staff and management are always here to help. The care staff are excellent, not only do I get a great welcome, all my friends and relatives do too.

My mum has vascular dementia and has lived at Spencer Grove for 2 years. The staff are so supportive and thoughtful not only with mum, but with me as well. Recently the staff all attended a course on understanding dementia and they asked family and residents if they wanted to fill the empty spaces which
I did and would thoroughly recommend. I very quickly realised that almost all of the training were things that they already do anyway daily at Spencer Grove and that meant so much to me to know mum is in such good, safe professional care.

My mother went into Spencer Grove just over two years ago. We were very lucky to have the home right on our doorstep. The care was excellent, my mother had dementia and had also had a stroke making life very difficult for her and also the carers. Spencer Grove is a happy place to be, so very friendly
and informative. We felt reassured that mum was in safe hands always. Palliative care was given at the ending of her life this was also excellent and very comforting.

The home is always clean and staff are friendly. They all do their best to try to make people feel at home and have some amazing activities for people to get involved with.
The manager is always happy to speak to you if you have any questions.
I have been to quite a few care homes but this is by far
the best.

Everyone at Spencer Grove has given my mother in law loving attentive care since her admission there in April 2015. The staff are always cheerful and genuinely care for all their residents. My husband and I are very happy to see how well she is being cared for. Previously she lived in their apartments
above the care home but has been in and out of hospital since September 2014. In April 2015, she developed a corneal ulcer in her right eye which was the eye that worked reasonably well having lost most of the vision in her left eye due to macular degeneration. Due to the loss of her eye sight, it became necessary for her to go in to full time care and Spencer Grove very kindly found a place for her immediately where she has stayed ever since. She is frail but determined to not give in and can find her way round with the help of her walker with what little peripheral vision she has in her left eye and has now been registered blind. I like the fact that we can visit her at any time of the day, no set visiting times and, whenever we go, we are always welcomed by all. Mother always tells us that they are very good to her. We are looking for a nursing home in Lancashire now as we are relocating within the next few months and mother has told us to make sure we get her in somewhere as good as Spencer Grove which is high praise in itself.

I visit weekly and have nothing but praise for all the staff from the cleaners to the kitchen ladies to the carers and the office staff. I see them all and they are all kind, courteous, very caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. You are made very welcome when you visit and if you have any
questions they find the time to talk with you. They even find time to talk with the residents which is nice to see. The residential home is clean, well maintained and the food is good. Keep up the good work Spencer Grove Care Home - Excellent.

Spencer Grove is a well run care home. The managers are approachable and very helpful. The care staff are always cheerful and have time to answer any questions you may have. The ancillary staff again are always cheerful. The home is keep very clean and the rooms are spacious and airy, some have better
views than others. On my visits my Dad is always comfortable and his needs are well catered for. All medical issues are promptly dealt with. There are activities for the residents to take part in and the introduction this year of a monthly trip out has been a great success with the residents. I visited several homes before deciding on Spencer Grove and I am very happy with the choice I made.

My father moved into Spencer Grove on the 5 September. He has settled in very well thanks to the care and dedication of the staff. He is well looked after which has been a huge relief. The staff are always there to answer any concerns and they know each resident personally. Nothing is too much trouble.
My father has a lovely clean light room with en-suite and with excellent care facilities.

My cousin was admitted to the residential care as her parkinson's was progressing in September 2014. She was well cared for and content, however this month she has been transferred to the nursing floor because of her condition and is having some trouble settling. The staff are doing their best to help
her - especially the manager.
In the residential floor the manager's office is in the midst of all, which enables her to monitor her staff which she does well. On the nursing floor the managers office is away from all areas, therefore staff cannot have the same supervision which shows.

Samantha began her career at the Milford Care group as a kitchen assistant when she was just 13. In 2018, Milford Care invested in Samantha’s future with the company by sponsoring her to follow her dream of becoming a Nurse Associate. After 3000 hours of placement and exams to become a registered nurse, Samatha passed with flying colours and continued her career in the care home.


After becoming a nurse, Samantha decided to put herself forward for the role of Spencer Grove Home Manager. With her high levels of commitment, charisma, and unwavering positivity, Samantha achieved the role. Combined with her leadership experience, management skills, and 13 years of learning Milford Care inside out, it became apparent she was the perfect fit.
