The facilities at Valley Lodge Nursing Home include three lounges, the main lounge having a television and French doors to the courtyard garden, the snug little Haddon lounge where residents meet for a catch up, and the upstairs lounge with beautiful views of Derbyshire Peak District.

The home also boasts a craft room with a programme of entertainment run by an onsite activities coordinator. Everything from live entertainment, to painting, to pamper days, are all on offer regularly. Also with regular visits to the onsite hairdressing salon you will be looking your best, and with regular visits from a chiropodist, dentist, physiotherapist and GP when required, you can feel very well looked after.

The Extra Care Unit, designed with dementia in mind, offers purpose-built en-suite accommodation. This area of the home offers round the clock care in this secure and safe environment.

Everything from menu boards with pictures to help residents recognise what's for dinner, to a clock that indicates whether it is day or night to help residents get a good night's sleep, makes sure residents get the best care.

This home also caters for nursing needs, with a registered nurse on duty 24 hours a day. All equipment is on hand to ensure you have everything you need to be well cared for.

My grandad came in December 2020 as he was extremely confused and putting himself in danger. Since being here he has become more aware of his surroundings and isn't confused. He enjoys spending time with other residents and activities take him out on day trips. He says the meals are always nice and
care staff are always friendly and always offer a helping hand.

My mother has settled well at Valley Lodge. She seems very content and is always complimentary about the food and says how kind the staff are. She always appears well-groomed and in clean clothes. I have not been able to visit her room because of restricted visiting hours due to Covid-19.

Although I have only been able to visit my mother once a week due to Covid-19, I have found the staff always to be really friendly. Mum mum, even though she suffers from dementia, always says she is looked after really well. She seems extremely happy which is reassuring.

Coronavirus has created difficulties with visiting but the staff has clearly worked extremely hard to ensure we can still visit our relatives. The staff are always very welcoming and cheerful and show a lot of care for the residents.

My parents came into Valley Lodge on the 10th January 2019 and form the day they arrived the staff have been superb! They are all kind, respectful, good humoured, patient and loving. The extra care unit upstairs is very nice, though the downstairs is not as appealing. This is a good care home, a little
expensive with first-class carers.

I have been a daily visitor to Valley Lodge for the past 2 months. During that time I have experienced a welcoming, friendly care home with a happy atmosphere. Staff are kind, patient and supportive, always willing to listen to concerns which may be raised. A wide range of entertainment is provided
and the activity co-ordinator is pro-active, efficient, interacting well with residents and visitors alike.


Bedrooms are always warm and clean, clothing and bedding regularly laundered. Residents' personal hygiene is maintained with dignity.


I have to mark down on safety and security due to apparent low staffing levels, however more recently I have noticed that this issue is now being addressed by the employment of agency staff. I am unable to comment on the management rating as I have had no reason/opportunity to interact with them to date.

In 2017 I was asked to be the second power of attorney for my aunt. When we made the documents at the solicitors I never expected to have to step in and help aunty sort out her day to day and longer term living etcetera. Valley Lodge has been amazing, I had to find accommodation for aunty quickly but
at the same time, it had to be suitable for her long-term needs. As soon as we saw round Valley Lodge I was convinced it was the right place for aunty to live. The Valley Lodge team have been superb and I would have no problem in recommending them to anyone.

Mum has been a resident of Valley Lodge, needing full nursing care, for three years.
We have been grateful for flexible visiting times and for the consistent caring, sensitive attitude from all the staff, whether they are clinical, care, catering, domestic or administrative. They all do their best
to ensure Mums needs are met. Even though Mums ability to communicate is very limited by her dementia. Liason with local GP Services means her clinical needs are kept under frequent review which is reflected in her care planning.
The rooms are bright, well decorated, equipped and a good size, with clear attention to safety and security. We're very pleased we chose Valley Lodge.

All the staff are friendly and give lovely care to my mum. However, turnover of staff is of a concern.
There seems to be no system for ensuring hearing aids are looked after. Despite my best efforts over the last 2 years, three hearing aids have gone missing. I have now given up on this issue and my
mum can long hear me talking to her. (They are both £1000 each to the NHS). This issue needs addressing PLEASE!

I am well looked after. Food is good. Staff very friendly and caring.
The downside is that many residents are extremely noisy. Not enough toilet/bathroom facilities - one has been closed for months.

All the staff at Valley Lodge, from the management right through to the kitchen and laundry staff, have shown an incredibly high level of compassion and tenderness in caring for my mother. In particular, I want to praise the dedication and vigilance shown by the senior carers, including the rigorous
administration of medication. It has been heartening to see the whole team apply a friendly and helpful approach to all the residents. The organised activities have been varied and stimulating.

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

I am Rebecca and am delighted to be the manager of Valley Lodge.

I am a registered nurse and like nothing more than getting stuck into care.

I believe that one of my main roles as a manger is to invest in the staff so that they are confident and competent in their role. By doing this, the staff are then able to deliver outstanding care to our residents.

I also believe that we are here to live every day to the full and so this is the ethos of the home.

When I am not at work I have 3 fabulous daughters and 3 dogs (plus assortment of other animals!) who I love to walk in the local woodland.
