The care here is brilliant. 2 lovely carers have taken it upon themselves to make activities for the residents and take them out to the local nursery. As The Lodge Care Home doesn't have activity staff this is very welcomed.

Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to review The Lodge Care Home, along with your recognition of the care team. Both are appreciated. We continue to work to improve the service we provide to our residents and the involvement of the care team in all aspects of the daily lives of our residents. Kind regards

Lovely hardworking nursing staff, health care workers and other staff members who looked after my mum in the last days of her life. The room she was in was clean and comfortable. Only criticism is that there needs to be more staff as they were always so busy looking after people. They all deserved a
medal.

Reply from Davey Taverner, Digital Marketing Manager at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

Thank you for taking the time to review The Lodge so highly. The staff at the home were excellent, really couldn't ask for more. They have been caring, supportive and empathetic, they are the reason we decided this was the care home for mum. One thing lacking was activities, I felt much of the time the residents were bored and it seemed no effort was made to
give them something to do. This is no reflection on the staff, this was due to the fact no one was employed to take a lead on activities.

Reply from Davey Taverner, Digital Marketing Manager at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

We thank you for your honesty and will take this into consideration moving forward. We are thrilled you are pleased with the high level of care our team can provide for your mum. The care staff at The Lodge Care Home have treated mum with respect and outstanding care. They have not only supported mum while at The Lodge but also family members when mum was in her final stages. I feel that the staff are superb but I also feel that they are grossly understaffed. The only disappointment
I need to mention is the lack of an activities manager at the Lodge. I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work and level of commitment.

Reply from Davey Taverner, Digital Marketing Manager at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

My dad was put into your care because my mum had to have an operation and she is his main carer. Dad was very happy and settled in your care and he was always clean and very well fed. This was a very upsetting time for us as a family but our minds were put to rest that Dad was being very well looked
after. Thank you.

The one big positive The Lodge Care Home has is the care staff. They have made Mum feel safe and comfortable. They treat her and others with dignity which gives the family comfort. The introduction of entertainment staff has been a real boost. She also loves the nutritional food provided by the catering
staff.

Reply from Louise Johnsen, Home Manager at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

Thank you kindly for taking the time to complete a review for our home. We pride ourselves here at The Lodge to ensure all service users receive the best care possible, a holistic approach to care encompasses all team members, including our wonderful catering and activities team. An open door for families from myself and the team is important to facilitate a good relationship, we are all happy to discuss any aspect with yourselves.
Kind regards,
Louise.

Suffer from bullying from care staff, lack of personal care and food very poor. When asking to go back to my room, don't get taken promptly. Overpriced and poor facilities.

Reply from Louise Johnsen, Home Manager at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for The Lodge. I am disappointed to read about your experience as this falls far below our usual high standards. I would like the opportunity to discuss this further and will seek to arrange a meeting at a time convenient to you. Mum has only been at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh) since 6/3/23, so this review is based on a short period of time. Before Mum's transfer from the hospital, the manager visited her which was reassuring. Management is approachable at all times. Disappointed at the level of activities but a coordinator
has just been appointed so that should improve. Mum has had her hair and nails done. Up to now, I have no major concerns for Mum and am happy to review again in three months. The home always smells clean on every visit.

Reply from Louise Johnsen, Home Manager at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

Thank you for your review. The ability to attend face-to-face pre-admission assessments facilitates the overall understanding of meeting a potential service users needs. Here at The Lodge, we understand that moving into any care facility can be very difficult for all those involved and we take pride in initial meetings to facilitate a better transition for loved ones and their families.
As you are aware we have a wonderful activities lady now in post who has helped the home come alive again with the introduction of activities chosen by the service users. This includes group activities and spending 1 to 1 time with service users that do not wish to participate in group activities. Our coronation party yesterday was amazing and Mum joined in the singing which was lovely to see. The power of music is magical to witness the joy and happiness it brings to everyone.

Helped by a staff member, she came out to see my mam and helped us to get her into The Lodge. Mam was very, very poorly. Since Mam was admitted to The Lodge, Mam has got a bit stronger and is able to be out of bed. Assisted with her day-to-day personal hygiene, showering/toileting etc. Mam enjoys her
meals again which is nice to see. She couldn't be cared for any better anywhere.

Reply from Rebecca Johnsen, Home Manager at The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh)

Thank you kindly for your lovely review. The team at the Lodge ensure all residents are cared for in a manner that is supportive and caring. Your mum continues to go from strength to strength and that is wonderful to see.

All the staff are helpful and friendly, the home is clean and the food good and different activities. I am very pleased with The Lodge. My mother now has the care that she needs and deserves, we are so glad that we found The Lodge as I don't think my mother would have got any better looked after anywhere.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all management and staff for everything.

Since the new manager has taken over, the furniture and decorations have been changed. Staffing levels appear to have improved and are more attentive and friendly. Fees are very high and not comparable with other homes, they appear excessive for the level of care that my sister-in-law needs.

The Lodge is a calm and caring place. As a relative, I am included in all aspects of my Mum's care. The team are all very respectful and gentle on the telephone, particularly with my father, who calls daily to see how Mum is. I sometimes find it difficult to get through to care teams on the telephone.

A warm greeting on arrival, helpful staff. Good atmosphere in the home. Usually a cleaner, cleaning somewhere. Help to our loved one, when asked, promptly arrived. Nurses are polite and caring. As good as an experience as we could hope for, in our sad circumstances.

My mum is in respite at the care home. She seems to have settled in and never complains about the care she is given. The staff are always very polite and helpful when needed. Overall, very pleased with the care provided for my mum and I would definitely recommend this care provider to family and friends.

It has to be borne in mind that the period we are discussing has coincided with the COVID-19 lockdown, so some of the observations can only be given from a distance. Having said that, our dealings with any member of staff or management have been excellent. When necessary, at the beginning, they made
sure that we were put at ease regarding any concerns which may have bothered us. It was my mother-in-law's birthday whilst she has been resident, and although it wouldn't have been normal for her, The Lodge made every effort to make it a special day for her. THANK YOU. The activities which are undertaken provide excellent stimulus.

The staff seemed genuinely helpful. The medication was missed resulting in antibiotics being administered. Unsure about monitoring hygiene. Moved rooms several times we were told, mum has dementia. Poor communication between home and relatives. A lot of lost/missing property on discharging mum, including
glasses and hearing aids. We were given someone else's medication to bring home. Belongings not treated with respect and some clearly remained unused despite the home requesting them for mum. Rotting food in mums bags which was from the home. Felt totally let down by the system, staff, and authorities. Such a shame.

My dad has been in The Lodge Care Home for almost two weeks. During that time, he has received excellent care. The home is friendly and welcoming, the carers are kind, compassionate and very attentive, nothing is too much trouble for them. They have also been extremely supportive to all the family during
this transitional period. The activity coordinator is very engaging. The residents enjoy all aspects of the activities provided. In conclusion, all our family have been very impressed by all aspects of care provided by The Lodge Care Home.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.458)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.458) out of 10 for The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.883 for The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh) is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (33 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 128 Ratings = 3.883

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.575 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Lodge Care Home (Killamarsh) is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.875

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
