Person-centered care is given to residents by a compassionate and experienced staff team. The nursing offering is also of a high standard.

My husband had a short stay at this nursing home, and we were very happy with the care he received.
His room was cleaned every day, and the food on offer was very good too.
All the staff were very kind and supportive to both my husband and family, which we were very grateful for.
We were even
provided with a room so that we could stay overnight and cups of tea were always available.
Thank you to everyone at Abbeydale for their kindness at a very difficult time.

I found Abbeydale to be an exceptional nursing home where all residents are treated as individuals. Whilst my mum was a resident all staff took the time to listen to her views and administer to her needs, gently encouraging her to interact with others and settle into life in her new home. Nothing was
too much trouble. The whole team work together to provide a family environment and the activities team show great enthusiasm and imagination to engage the residents.

Every member of the Abbeydale team played their part in making the home a comfortable, caring environment for Mum and her visitors. Nothing was too much trouble. It is obvious that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to maintain such high standards, both in care and comfort - a 5-star hotel for
poorly people.

During Mum's twelve months stay at Abbeydale, she was looked after so well by such caring and compassionate management and staff. Their patience in coping with her deteriorating dementia was exemplary. Her dignity was maintained throughout and the management and staff were always approachable and friendly,
both to Mum and myself.

Mum moved to Abbeydale 2 weeks ago from another home. The manager and all the staff we have been in contact with have been so caring and understanding. It has been so reassuring to see Mum joining in with activities via the Facebook page and getting her appetite back - the food is cooked fresh and always
a choice. Thank you all so much, your care of Mum and the other residents really shows and is much appreciated.

A really homely atmosphere with caring and compassionate staff. Everyone has been so helpful as my parents try to settle into a new kind of life in a new place. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for nurses and carers. The senior leaders keep us informed at every step and listen to us. The rooms are
pleasant and the food is homemade and seems to be tailored to individual requirements.

My mum was treated with the utmost respect. She was very well cared for by staff who treated her like one of their family. I was also given the best care possible when Mum's time came. The head nurse and all the staff were amazing. I cannot praise them enough.

My father was extremely lucky to be taken in by the nursing home the day before lockdown. We are just so happy and relieved that we managed to get him there in time as this has been a fantastic nursing home. They treated him with such care, dignity and respect, as well as being sensitive to our concerns.
We felt reassured that he was being looked after so carefully. When we managed to visit him as lockdown was eased, they were very careful to ensure that safe social distancing guidelines were stringently observed and we were very confident that he was being kept safe. Every day, photos and videos are uploaded to the home's Facebook page and it is wonderful to see all the activities they put on. It was very moving to see photos of our dad on his birthday surrounded by presents, a cake from the home, and the video messaging they facilitated so that our father could speak to his daughter in Australia on the day. We couldn't have wished for better care in the final 6 months of his long life.

After living a fairly solitary life, my father nevertheless seemed to adjust very well to his time here, taking part in the many and thoughtful activities provided, and relating well to the carers.
Although I live in Australia and was not able to visit, I am very confident that my father received
excellent care whilst a resident at Abbeydale. I was kept informed of his progress, and video chats with him were well facilitated. It is a comfort to know that he was happy and well cared for in his last remaining months.

A wonderful care home, beautiful, elegant building; not at all clinical and institutional looking. Efficient, caring, friendly staff, including management. Great, creative and varied activities with in house co-ordinators 6-days a week to keep residents entertained. (See Abbeydale Facebook).
They even
put on the forties show especially for a resident which looked great fun. There's a happy, family atmosphere there (and a resident budgie) There's an elegant main lounge and also a quieter one with television.
We are so glad that my Dad was accepted here in March this year, and has been safe and so well looked after. We are also very grateful to the two lovely staff and manager who sat with my dad at the end, talking and playing music. We would not hesitate to recommend this Abbeydale and hope that it continues for many years to come under the present management, who clearly care about their residents and staff.

The last few months has been extremely difficult for myself and my family due to my grandma's health. The staff here are amazing, excellent care provided and has made us all feel a little easier knowing that my grandma is receiving quality care whilst maintaining as much dignity as possible. The staff
are extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I cannot thank the staff here enough as it has given us piece of mind that she is in the best hands. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. The staff that carry out this role, helping and supporting the elderly is extremely hard work and deserve a lot more recognition.


Activities are planned throughout the week by the events organiser which involves residents meetings, themed days and outings, I will certainly be doing my bit in the future volunteering and helping where possible and feel that this is the least I can do to thank the staff of Abbeydale.

Karen

Karen Jenkinson

Job Title: Registered Manager

Karen has been the Registered Manager for 14 years. She qualified as a Registered Nurse in Derby in 1986 and has since worked for many years in Elderly Care and also Brain Injury Rehab.


She works closely alongside Senior Nurse Manager Katty Bailey in leading the teams at both Stanley House, and Abbeydale.


When she is not at work, Karen spends time at her allotment, has 2 Siamese cats, and enjoys holidaying in Cyprus where she has adopted a puppy from. She has 4 grandchildren. Karen is proud of the fact she managed to tandem paraglide off a very high mountain in Turkey!


Karen always has a very ‘open-door policy', and a ‘hands-on approach’ and wants the best for the residents and all the staff in her team. The Activities Team say that “they feel that they are valued and supported role across the whole team because of the enthusiasm and encouragement of Karen”.


Katty

Katty Bailey

Job Title: Senior Nurse Manager

Katty is our Senior Nurse Manager; she supports the Registered Manager, Karen, in leading the team across Abbeydale and Stanley House.


Katty was born in Sweden and came to the UK in 1994 as an Au-Pair, she then trained as a nurse in Suffolk and qualified in 1999. She has had a varied career, including a large proportion of her time spent working in Public Health and in 2016 decided to move into Health and Social Care and take up a post in a Nursing Home. She joined the team at Abbeydale and Stanley House in 2018.
Katty is passionate about delivering safe and effective care to residents. She enjoys working with the staff to ensure everyone is treated as an individual with kindness and respect.


One of our Deputy Managers says “the nurses find Katty knowledgeable and approachable. I personally find her knowledgeable and a calming influence and a great support in my development as a Deputy Manager”.
Time away from work Katty enjoys going away in her motorhome, walking the dog, and riding her bike. Katty also loves cooking and socialising with friends. Katty has also been involved in many fundraising events over the years, including organising local fun dog shows.


Cat

Cat Campbell

Job Title: Administrator

Cat is the Admin for Abbeydale, and began working here in March 2022. Prior to this role, Cat worked as an Admin for a Dairy Office in the West Midlands and has also been Self-Employed while running her own Dog Grooming Business.


Cat’s role within the Nursing Home involves supporting the team as a whole with any Administrative tasks required. Cat organises staff training courses for in-house training, and monitors online training for staff across both homes. Cat prides herself on creating a warm and professional environment for any visitors to the Home, both in-person and over the phone.


Cat says: “I was drawn to Abbeydale and Stanley House Nursing Homes as the staff were very kind and approachable, and instantly made me feel welcome. After working here for a while, it is plain to see how much all the staff truly care about the residents, and I am honoured to be a part of the team.


I live in Derby with my husband, and my dog Bean. I am originally from the West Midlands, and I moved here to study at the University of Derby. I completed my undergrad in Psychology and went on to do a Post-graduate diploma in Applied Health Sciences. In my spare time, I enjoy running and I am currently attempting to complete the NHS “Couch to 5K” programme”.
