The team at The Laurels, many of whom have been with the home for over 10 years, are devoted to enriching the lives of their residents.

As well as providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, they also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from baking and quizzes, to games on the Magic Table, an incredible piece of technology designed for people living with dementia to play interactive light games, which encourage gentle movement and some healthy competition!

The team are passionate about supporting residents to have a very active role to play in how their home is run, with resident ambassadors who enjoy supporting the home manager to interview potential staff and welcoming new residents and their families.

This summer the team and residents have loved growing their own fruit, vegetables and herbs in the garden, which they have proudly harvested for the chef to use in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement and purpose. They grew everything from onions and tomatoes to strawberries and blackberries. Some of the residents enjoyed helping the chef to prep the vegetables for lunch and making fruit milkshakes and cocktails.

In the dining rooms, the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. A firm favourite are the chef’s home-made chocolate fudge and cheese scones!

The local community are embraced into life at The Laurels, with students from local schools and colleges regularly visiting, as well as community volunteers who love taking part in activities.

The home also has a hair salon, for regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser. And there are welcoming lounges for the residents to enjoy activities and spend time with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time.

The facility is well-designed and organised so resident so residents can feel at home while still having all the care and support they need. When visiting my uncle I was impressed by the number of staff on duty and their friendly and caring ways. All the staff were very compassionate and helpful to

The staff look after the residents very well. The food is good and varied. It is always warm and comfortable. The home is well-decorated on the inside but the outside could do with a little attention. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home for a family member.

My mother is in very poor health and I was dreading Xmas. Most likely her last Xmas with us and also her first one in a care home. Honestly, the home couldn't have done more to ensure the festivities were filled with love, joy and fun. A member of staff dressed as Santa on the day and me and my sister
cried happy tears when he surprised my mum with a visit on the big day. This epitomised the exceptional care my mum receives at the Laurels. The Manager's door is always open and welcoming should I have worries about my mum. What I thought was going to be a sad place to visit has become my happy place, as I make treasured memories.

My mum has been a resident for 3 months. Although she as deteriorated The Laurels and all the staff have been amazing.
The level of care she is receiving is exceptional. They all go out of their way for Mum and our family.

My husband and I live in Scotland, and it has been such a blessing that my mother-in-law was placed in The Laurels. I cannot thank everyone enough. All the different teams work so well together. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is amazing, and bespoke to each patient/person. My mother-in-law has
a very rare skin disease, and when she went in needed turning every two hours, it was done with love and care. She is a complex case, with many other problems, but for The Laurels and the team, she is almost ready to go back home. It is because of their diligence and kindness, love and care. We cannot recommend enough.

I cannot rate the management and all staff at The Laurels highly enough.
My mother is a resident there for end-of-life care, and the care she has received is outstanding. My mother had always said that she would never go to a nursing/care home, but after a few weeks at The Laurels, she said that she
"loves this place and the people and that I wish I had come here years ago". All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and after years of worrying about my mother, I can finally relax because she is safe.

Mum has been at The Laurels for three years. In that time she has been well looked after and cared for. She enjoys her meals, her hair appointments (via in-house) and chatting to the staff and residents.
Time is spent to make sure she is happy and when needed additional aids have been provided. I
have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels.

At the beginning it was a worrying, stressful decision to make, to have to put my dad into a nursing home. The Laurels helped loads with the transition. They were very informative and tentative to my dad's needs. I would highly recommend this nursing home.

The Laurels Residential and Nursing Home cared for my dad in his last days and hours. Following a massive stroke, which happened whilst he was there on respite, he was discharged from the hospital for twenty-four-hour nursing care. The care and attention given to his comfort and well-being were second
to none. Family members were also looked after and shown compassion at a very difficult time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our own well-being was also taken into consideration, we were fed and watered so we could concentrate on spending valuable time with Dad. I could not praise everyone enough, it made a very difficult time more bearable. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My husband came to The Laurels in mid-November 2022 with Parkinson's, very bad mobility and very slight dementia. Whenever I visit, which is often, I find him well cared for. On the whole, myself, daughter and son are happy with The Laurels' care.

My aunt was very nervous on arrival but was soon put at ease. The staff all gave her lots of care and attention and she's now a different person, relaxed and settled. I moved here with my mum who I lost in August. We were together and we were happy. I am still happy. I catch buses to Denby and Nottingham. I recently joined the library.

My Mum needed more care following a fall. She moved into The Laurels from
Cottage Hospital. The Manager, Deputy and all of their staff could not have been more caring or compassionate with my Mum and with us. You walk in the door and are met with smiles and offers of help. These are people people
who care. Impressive.
