The team at The Laurels, many of whom have been with the home for over 10 years, are devoted to enriching the lives of their residents.

As well as providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, they also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from baking and quizzes, to games on the Magic Table, an incredible piece of technology designed for people living with dementia to play interactive light games, which encourage gentle movement and some healthy competition!

The team are passionate about supporting residents to have a very active role to play in how their home is run, with resident ambassadors who enjoy supporting the home manager to interview potential staff and welcoming new residents and their families.

This summer the team and residents have loved growing their own fruit, vegetables and herbs in the garden, which they have proudly harvested for the chef to use in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement and purpose. They grew everything from onions and tomatoes to strawberries and blackberries. Some of the residents enjoyed helping the chef to prep the vegetables for lunch and making fruit milkshakes and cocktails.

In the dining rooms, the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. A firm favourite are the chef’s home-made chocolate fudge and cheese scones!

The local community are embraced into life at The Laurels, with students from local schools and colleges regularly visiting, as well as community volunteers who love taking part in activities.

The home also has a hair salon, for regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser. And there are welcoming lounges for the residents to enjoy activities and spend time with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time.

The staff are always pleasant and caring. Mum is always kept clean and comfortable. We have been informed of any issues. Has been awkward for everyone in regards to visiting etc. with Covid rules.

My brother has been a resident at The Laurels for four years. He is well looked after by all the staff and seems settled. All the staff did an excellent job during the Covid lockdown. As we live in Scotland, we are assured that he is in good hands and receiving excellent care.

After having a dreadful experience at another home, myself and my family are so pleased with the care my nana is receiving at The Laurels. Visited my mother on her 101st Birthday. Only the second visit this year due to covid and I live in Wales. Very pleased with the care she receives but disappointed that her room hasn't been updated since she first went there. Also disappointed in the state of the gardens. Could do with a gardener- we
pay enough. More than satisfied with the care from the staff.

My friend has been in the home for a couple of years now and if it was left to her she would stay in bed all day, thankfully she is regularly taken to join the other residents for some company. There are always mid-morning drinks brought to her when she does choose to stay in bed. The staff are always
very cheerful with residents and visitors alike.

My mum seems happy and the carers looking after her each day are kind to her which is important to me.

My husband has received excellent care whilst being in The Laurels. The manager is very helpful and the staff I have spoken with. I am unable to comment on the activities and facilities as due to the Covid restrictions it is not possible. The carer who takes the lateral flow tests is always very friendly.

The care staff are friendly, cheerful and make a real effort to engage with mum at all times. Nothing is too much trouble, the meals are very tasty and always very nourishing. The cleaning staff are very thorough and will happily help wherever.
During lockdown, I have never felt I was being a nuisance
by ringing for an update and we have felt included despite no visits.

My husband suffered with Parkinson's disease and, although he became very foetal, the staff treated him with great respect and love and made him as comfortable as possible. There were issues with medication supplies from time to time - this needs attention. The staff were very kind and cheerful and
made me welcome on my daily visits. My husband enjoyed his jokes with the staff.

My uncle has been a resident at the Laurels for two years. He settled in very well, and the staff made him very welcome. He always looks smart and clean when he is up and about. He enjoys most of his meals, especially the puddings. He likes to see the children when they visit. His room is kept clean
and tidy. Staff are always willing to tell us if there are any concerns concerning my uncle.

Mum came into the home in April 2019. The treatment and care she received was excellent, even though she herself was of a quite demanding and awkward nature.
We cannot commend the staff enough. Sadly she passed away in September but their support to us continued. Special thanks to the activities coordinator
in particular.
