The team at The Laurels, many of whom have been with the home for over 10 years, are devoted to enriching the lives of their residents.

As well as providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, they also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance.

There are so many activities to enjoy, from baking and quizzes, to games on the Magic Table, an incredible piece of technology designed for people living with dementia to play interactive light games, which encourage gentle movement and some healthy competition!

The team are passionate about supporting residents to have a very active role to play in how their home is run, with resident ambassadors who enjoy supporting the home manager to interview potential staff and welcoming new residents and their families.

This summer the team and residents have loved growing their own fruit, vegetables and herbs in the garden, which they have proudly harvested for the chef to use in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement and purpose. They grew everything from onions and tomatoes to strawberries and blackberries. Some of the residents enjoyed helping the chef to prep the vegetables for lunch and making fruit milkshakes and cocktails.

In the dining rooms, the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. A firm favourite are the chef’s home-made chocolate fudge and cheese scones!

The local community are embraced into life at The Laurels, with students from local schools and colleges regularly visiting, as well as community volunteers who love taking part in activities.

The home also has a hair salon, for regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser. And there are welcoming lounges for the residents to enjoy activities and spend time with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time.

I can't thank the staff enough for their care and kindness towards my mother. Throughout her time at The Laurels, she was treated with the utmost respect and dignity. We thought the default of the doors being open unless requested to be closed made the people feel open and friendly, allowing care staff
to pop in and say hello which is what my mum loved. The food also looked amazing, with an eye for detail to make it perfect for each resident. My mum's likes and dislikes were listened to.

Mum always looks clean and contented. Staff are friendly and smiling. If we ask for something it's done instantly. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Muk's room is pleasant, clean and comfortable.

The home is very clean, the staff are all so friendly and accommodating. My Aunt has settled very well and is happy here. The food is good as is the personal care, the home even take her out to shops, garden centre etc. I would highly recommend The Laurels.

The staff are very friendly, caring and helpful in all aspects. The home is very clean and I feel my mother's needs are well catered for. My mother is happy there and has no issues/complaints.

The management team and staff at The Laurels were incredible in their passion and desire to help.


In what was an extremely sad and emotional time for my family, myself, Mum's friends and all concerned, the staff and management made my mum's final few weeks a safe, happy and comforting place.


During

her stay I was lucky enough to have one final Christmas with her, under the circumstances, it was a very special Christmas, one that I will never forget. The Laurels staff contributed in abundance to this special Christmas.


Thank you to all the management, staff, kitchen staff and nurses at The Laurels.

I think the care from the staff is very good, they always have time to speak to you and are always smiling. They treat the residents with respect and care in what must, sometimes, a difficult job. They provide activities for the residents to keep them stimulated which I have seen first hand. Very nice

Choosing a nursing home must be one of the most difficult things we have to do. It happens at a time when emotions are at a high and decisions have to be made. That is why I am happy we chose The Laurels. All members of staff at all levels made my mother and our family feel welcome, important to them.
They can be approached at any time, we are listened to and if a problem arises it is soon rectified. We are grateful for the care she receives and the respect shown to us all.

I feel the Laurels have taken excellent care of my mum. When she first went there she was very ill and they have brought her back to a better standard of health. She is also being more sociable with other residents and staff members. They have succeeded in making myself and other members of my family

My relation has been in The Laurels home for 7 and a half years and has just passed away. He has been well looked after there, although most of the time it's understaffed and our relation has had to wait longer than he should for personal things like the toilet and getting him up late. I don't blame
the staff, they have a lot to contend with, and they work hard for low pay - but it needs sorting for the sake of the residents.

My mum fell and was in hospital. The beds were needed. She was transferred to The Laurels. I went to see The Laurels and was given a warm welcome. I was promptly taken to see a nursing room. The room was nicely decorated; electric bed and air mattress/ensuite/patio window overlooking a garden. This
home is kept to the highest standard for caring. Warm and friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble. They are efficient on all levels of staff. The home is very effective/safe environment/caring/responsive and well led. It offers activities. The menu is varied and nicely cooked and presented. This home is excellent and should be recommended.

The Laurels staff are a caring and dedicated team who treat the residents with respect and dignity and allow visitors time and space for their loved ones. It comes across as being a very busy home with the staff always on the go - giving the impression that the home is somewhat understaffed. That said
all the carers, nursing staff, admin and ancillary staff were welcoming and easy to talk to at all times of the day. We never met the manager so cannot comment on that side of the running of the home. Access to the building sometimes entailed a lengthy wait, probably due to the staff being busy with residents. Overall our experience was fairly good with support when it was needed.

From when dad moved in the staff were wonderful with family and the care of my dad. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms and facilities are perfect and set in a lovely environment. My mother suffered a severe stroke and received end of life care at The Laurels. The care she received was of the highest standard, at no time was she in pain and the staff (from manager, nursing staff and domestic staff) were so attentive and caring. I cannot praise the home and staff enough for making
my mum's final days peaceful and painless. Brilliant care home. My mum came to The Laurels in June 2015 after breaking her hip, once she had settled in, it was the happiest I had seen her in years.
