Stanley House is located about ten minutes from Derby city centre on the corner of Duffield Road and Stanley Close.

It provides a high standard of nursing care and cares for 42 long and short-stay residents.

The care home has three comfortably furnished lounges, separate dining areas and a heated sun lounge where residents can relax and enjoy the gardens.

There is a team of activity co-ordinators who provide a varied programme of activities designed to appeal to a wide range of interests.

Mum has recently moved into Stanley House. Thank you for making Mum feel so welcome and feel that she belongs. You have such wonderful, friendly and inspirational staff, with attention to detail in every role. Mum says, and I can see, she already feels very relaxed and at home. With the variety of activities,
Mum said 'I think my days will be more fulfilled'. How right she is, through your gentle encouragement, her days are more interesting. You have adapted to Mum, in all areas, rather than the other way around, truly respecting Mum as an individual. It's lovely to see the rapport she has with everyone. Thank you for taking on board my knowledge of Mum's preferences too. Exemplary care and very high standards, in all aspects. Highly recommend.

My aunt has settled in very well. The care given is extremely good. All the staff are very helpful and caring. The environment is clean and homely.

Dad moved to Stanley House straight from hospital last year. He had been living on his own and was just about managing with a lot of support from the family. After his illness in hospital he went to Stanley House to 'try it out' and has never looked back. The activities are team are brilliant always
creative and inspiring. During the COVID-19 lockdown they have really come up with some imaginative ways for the families to keep in touch. Living in a shared home has kept Dad from being left on his own. All the staff are great and caring for both residents and their families.

My husband has amazed us by how well he has settled into Stanley House. I was apprehensive beforehand but I need not have worried. My mum has been a resident for 12 months now, she settled in very quickly. Like everyone, I was concerned at the start if I had done 'the right thing', putting my mum in care is a big decision. I am very happy with the home. The staff are superb and nothing is too much trouble. I am very impressed with
the day to day running and activities. The home is always clean and tidy with lots going on. The food is good, wholesome, British fayre with plenty of choice. Very satisfied.

Dad is very contented and comfortable in Stanley House and my mother, who also has dementia but lives at home, is also very comfortable and at ease when she visits him.
Dad is very satisfied with the food, staff and activities and we are able to visit him as a family regularly and are made very welcome.
We
often participate in activities and special events. The staff are excellent as is the level of care - nothing is too much trouble. I don't worry about Dad now as I know he is in excellent hands.

Stanley House is a real home from home, very comfortable and clean. All the staff are warm and caring, treating residents with dignity. As a family, you are encouraged to be part of your relative's life and to join in with activities. Any queries and concerns are always treated seriously and professionally.
Any decisions are jointly made including the family and resident. Excellent!

Meet the Team (3)

Karen

Karen Jenkinson

Job Title: Registered Manager

Karen has been the Registered Manager for 14 years. She qualified as a Registered Nurse in Derby in 1986 and has since worked for many years in Elderly Care and also Brain Injury Rehab.


Karen works closely alongside Senior Nurse Manager Katty Bailey in leading the teams at both Stanley House, and Abbeydale.


When she is not at work, Karen spends time at her allotment, has 2 Siamese cats, and enjoys holidaying in Cyprus where she has adopted a puppy from. She has 4 grandchildren. Karen is proud of the fact she managed to tandem paraglide off a very high mountain in Turkey!


Karen always has a very ‘open-door’policy, a ‘hands-on approach’ and wants the best for the residents and all the staff in her team. The Activities Team say that “they feel that they are valued and supported role across the whole team because of the enthusiasm and encouragement of Karen”.


Katty

Katty Bailey

Job Title: Senior Nurse Manager

Katty is our Senior Nurse Manager; she supports the Registered Manager, Karen, in leading the team across Abbeydale and Stanley House.


Katty was born in Sweden and came to the UK in 1994 as an Au-Pair, she then trained as a nurse in Suffolk and qualified in 1999. She has had a varied career, including a large proportion of her time spent working in Public Health and in 2016 decided to move into Health and Social Care and take up a post in a Nursing Home. She joined the team at Abbeydale and Stanley House in 2018.
Katty is passionate about delivering safe and effective care to residents. She enjoys working with the staff to ensure everyone is treated as an individual with kindness and respect.


One of our Deputy Managers says “the nurses find Katty knowledgeable and approachable. I personally find her knowledgeable and a calming influence and a great support in my development as a Deputy Manager”.
Time away from work Katty enjoys going away in her motorhome, walking the dog, and riding her bike. Katty also loves cooking and socialising with friends. Katty has also been involved in many fundraising events over the years, including organising local fun dog shows.


Claire

Claire Coles

Job Title: Administrator

Claire is an Admin and has worked across our Care Homes for almost 5 years.


Claire has worked in various roles previously including Learning Disability Services, Supported
Employment, Secondary School Children, Homeless and Rough Sleepers Team and at Extra Care
Schemes.


Claire oversees the majority of administrative functions within the home to ensure that the business
is administered in a professional manner which also assists the Managers in the smooth running of
the home.


Claire keeps the office and wider teams fully informed of matters relating to the home and she is the
first point of contact for visitors and telephone enquiries, fostering a professional and caring image
of the home.
Claire also manages the selection and recruitment for both homes.


Claire says: ‘’This role is completely different to any previous role undertaken as it is mostly office based with a lot of time spent using a computer. The role is really varied and no two days are the same and I really do have to know a little about everything!’’
