Magna Care Home is a recently-refurbished home conveniently located in the centre of Wigston in Leicestershire.

Providing quality dementia care to older people, the home has been carefully designed with ultimate comfort in mind. The two sitting rooms offer the perfect spot to relax and spend time with other residents meanwhile meals prepared by the catering team can be enjoyed in either of the two spacious dining rooms. The team work hard to ensure mealtimes are enjoyable for residents, providing a variety of meals, catering for dietary requirements and welcoming visitors at any time.

Learning about the preferences of each individual resident, the team encourage everyone to take an active part in life at Magna Care Home. Whether they want to be fully involved in the enriching activities programme or join in as and when they wish, residents benefit from an engaging lifestyle that offers plenty of things to look forward to.

Community is also an integral part of life at Magna Care Home. The team is dedicated to supporting residents to build strong relationships in the Wigston neighbourhood, and regularly organise events with local schools, charities and businesses in the area.

Dad has been a resident for the last five weeks and we have been impressed by the overall standards of the home.
The staff are caring, kind and cheerful. They work as a team to provide care, meals and activities. Dad looks cared for even though I know that he can be quite challenging when washing and
dressing.
The staff manage situations with a calmness and patience, yet maintain dignity and safety.
We are hoping that this home becomes a long-term solution to the care that my dad requires.

My mum was only here for 2 1/2 months, but her end of life care was excellent. She was treated with good care and dignity. We were always treated well on visiting. The staff are excellent and very caring. Mum was not eating while she was here but the menus looked very tasty. Would highly recommend.

My wife was moved to Magna Care Home after she had a fall, she has advanced dementia and required nursing care.
I cannot speak too highly of the care she has received at Magna.
the staff are all extremely friendly and very competent at their jobs. The food is excellent and well presented. The general
ambience is very pleasant. It is too early to assess the activities yet but a Christmas party was organised and families were invited. This was a great success and everyone enjoyed it. A full buffet was laid on for visitors. Overall we are very satisfied with the treatment of care at Magna Care Home.

Since my sister has been a resident in this care home, she has been looked after extremely well. Whenever my husband and I have visited, we have been made welcome by the friendly and efficient staff.

Magna's activity staff organised an excellent Halloween party. Good decorations, excellent atmosphere with the staff dressing up and a great entertainer sang all the songs that we all know and can join in. Great fun for everyone.

My father is a resident at present and he is well looked after in his health and food and drink is good. (He eats well but if I ask him if he had had breakfast, don't remember toast). Also what he has had for his dinner. The entertainment that they arrange for residents is very good (dad loves a singsong)
brings a big smile to his face - others as well - pyjama parties - barbeques all good, we are happy.

Magna home has a really positive attitude towards the care of residents.
From the security (Dementia patients live here) of the building, kitchen and admin areas, residents rooms right through to keeping the "medicine trolley" secure whilst dispensing residents medicines, through to food (food is
good, wholesome, with plenty of choices, and handling specialist dietary needs, all well presented).
There is sufficient staff on duty to ensure that the residents are not just observed and helped, but also so that there is time to interact with the residents, and to be proactive and anticipate the needs and wants of the residents.
All of the residents are smartly dressed/turned out, showing that the positive attitude is really embedded in the way that Magna operates.
I find that "my" resident is being cared for far better than I was able to care for them when they previously lived at home on their own with a daily carer and family visits. This is such a relief for me, and so good to see day after day.
The staff also go out of their way to make visitors (that is to make me and those like me) feel very welcome


Review of a special monthly event, in this case, a "Pyjama Party". This was well publicised and was held in the lounge. It was well attended by both residents and their families. There was a singer, who encouraged the residents to sing along. There was also impromptu dancing (sorry if premises isn't licensed for dancing!) with carers and residents, including those with visual impairment and requiring assistance to stand. A karaoke option as well. A really great, fun afternoon. I came in a nightie in honour of the occasion! Afterwards, a sumptuous buffet was laid out.

Having been a daily visitor for 5 years I have seen improvements in the general atmosphere of the home. This is mainly because 2 members of staff have left - one of whom didn't possess the tenderness required and the other had a poor attitude.


The current staff are excellent, especially the assistant

nurse and activities co-ordinator, who display a shining example of how care should be provided.

Chipo Mupunga

Job Title: Home Manager

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“Kind care to me is being friendly, generous, considerate and kind-natured to Residents and their loved ones at all times.”


As a dedicated healthcare professional, Chipo has gained a wealth of experience in providing care to elderly people to help enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and committed leader who has progressed in her career to Home Manager level, after qualifying as a registered nurse in 2000.


Chipo closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoyed most about her role, Chipo remarked: “I love seeing that our Residents are smiling, happy and content in a homely environment.”


Chipo credits her biggest achievement to beginning her career as an overseas nurse, before becoming a Home Manager at HC-One.


Outside of work, Chipo enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as practising her faith.
