Our mother was admitted to Sutton in the Elms in 2020. Suffering from dementia, she can experience severe anxiety and distress at times, which can be difficult to manage. But the staff have shown great understanding and patience and become very good at calming her down. The home is very comfortable,
clean and safe, and the staff are kind and attentive. There is an emphasis on encouraging interaction, with wide-ranging and excellent activities offered, from craft work, music, singing and dancing to themed entertainments around Easter, Christmas, firework night etc. These provide enjoyable, fun times, which can also involve family members. Communication generally is good, and we feel we are kept up to date and involved in decisions which affect our mother. Mum is very well looked after, and despite not wanting to be in a care home, she is even, by her own admission, very happy there. We are also very happy and would recommend Sutton in the Elms highly.

I have been very impressed with how welcome Sutton in the Elms has made us all feel since Dad has come to stay.
All the management and care staff appear to be trained to a high standard and have been able to answer all of our questions and support Dad with his needs.
The home itself is clean, well-organised
and set within nice countryside surroundings.
Residents are provided with carefully managed meals to suit their needs, and Dad's nutrition is well monitored. There is always a range of activities each day of the week, and the hairdresser also visits weekly.
Everyone from cleaners, laundry, on-site maintenance workers, carers, nurses and all the office staff make time for each resident and know them well.
Dad had several settling-in issues, which we raised, and each time we were acknowledged and reassured, and new plans were put in place to rectify these and ensure Dad's continued happiness and well-being.
I'm so happy Dad has such kind people looking after him.

This is a beautiful home for your loved ones. The staff are very welcoming, and the management team are very helpful. They take the time for everyone. My grandma is very happy there. Always lots going on, and fun days are great.

I can’t recommend this home highly enough! My friend has been a resident here for six months and is so comfortable, well cared for and happy. The building itself is beautiful and the rooms very spacious. The smell and general, when you walk in, is like a 5-star hotel rather than a care home. All staff
look very happy; they all smile and talk to you. The activities programme at this home is out of this world. There’s always something different going on! The food always looks delicious, and there is one member of their staff team that really does go above and beyond. Lovely home that I’m very happy to see my friend in. Well done to the managers here, who are the loveliest people.

My mother spent the last year of her life in the home, and the level of care and support she received from the staff was first-class. The facilities were to a good standard, and the activities team gave her so much pleasure with the great variety of craft work, music, singing and party times. The management
team were always very obliging and a pleasure to deal with. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff that made my mother so welcome and supported during her stay.

My husband received end-of-life care at Sutton last year. Alot of his stay was during Covid, so limited visits were available, and they worked very well. I found the home and staff to be very caring and kind towards him, and I was treated well too, especially near the end with daily visits and overnight
stays. I would certainly recommend this home for your loved one.

My mother was at first reluctant to move into the home from the house she has lived in for nearly 50 years. However, she was met with kindness, care and understanding from the first day. She soon made very good friends with other residents and enjoyed the daily activities. Even during the Covid lockdown,
the home did everything they could to protect the residents but allowed as much access as possible. The staff and management have been amazing, and we regard some of them as friends. When my mother died, we were confirmed by the care and kindness shown to her until the end. The rooms are kept very tidy and clean but appear homely. My mother particularly enjoyed the activity days, and they always made sure she felt she was part of the fun.

We could not have been happier with the end-of-life care that my husband received at Sutton in the Elms.
Every member of staff went the extra mile, nothing was too much. They ensured that my husband was always comfortable and that the family were supported and kept informed on how he was. Indeed,
it was blatantly obvious that working at Sutton in the Elms is not just a job but a vocation for all staff.

My husband was taken into care from the hospital at beginning of lockdown. Everything was very difficult at first due to Covid restrictions and a home new to Langdale Group. For two years until my husband passed away, things slowly improved with a new manager and sort out of staff. I always had faith
in the owners of Langdale Group, who I believe are very caring. My husband was happy and settled at Sutton Elms during his time there, and he and myself were always treated with dignity and kindness. I think the home will continue to improve now restrictions are lifted and very soon will get a 10-rating.

My dear wife was diagnosed with dementia in 2020, and also had been registered blind, on top of that, she had lost the use of her legs and could not stand or walk. She was admitted to Sutton in the Elms care home as she required a lot of care. On visiting my wife regularly, I have found this home very
good. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and more importantly, very gentle and caring with all service users.

Mum has ongoing medical and care needs! She is safe and well looked after! It's been a very difficult transition from home/hospital and all during Covid! To where we are now, the care home manager, communication has improved greatly, also having some continuity makes Mum and ourselves feel a lot more
involved in her care!
One lady is brilliant! She cares with a passion for the job that she is doing and gives 101% *.

My mum has been in their care since Dec 16, and I cannot fault her treatment. It has been difficult to make a judgment from the last 18-months as they have been very COVID secure and limited visits, quite rightly, to protect everyone. They have done this very well.
Mum has her own mobile, so we can
keep in touch any time, and this is the only thing at present I could fault them for, as she doesn’t seem to have it as much as she used to, this could be down to mum as well as she may not be asking, but I am in dialogue with the manager about this to ensure it is rectified as best as possible, and I have confidence that it will be.

Lately, there has been a real improvement in communication, and the standards of care have improved. One staff member is excellent, as are the activity ladies who have improved the quality of life there with their activities and daily contact with the residents. The staff are very conscientious and
caring. Another staff member, in particular, always gives above and beyond. My relative has said she is very happy there.

The home is lovely. my mum is clean and well looked after; she especially enjoys the entertainment evenings.
All the staff are lovely, but there is one particular member of staff really does go above and beyond for the residents and their families; she is one of the events coordinators, I wish I could

Since the new group took over, lack of personal information of medical issues when the intervention of medication, antibiotics, creams of infection, no phone calls or decisions. January 14th 2021 - May, when challenged, blame the nurses off sick, not management. Making excuses (no communication of them
visiting, leaving dirty razor blades in toiletries trolley).

Communication to and from home is terrible. I have to ring many times on different days just to get someone to answer the phone - usually answered by a person unable to understand English and answer a question. Callbacks are slow. Resident appears to be allowed to stay in bed for too much, and attention
to her in the room is very poor. The carpets in hallways and stairs are filthy and stained - not hoovered. Overall smell that is unpleasant - not necessary for that - simple air freshener would help. Apparent acceptance by the resident that she has to lie in a wet pad - very poor.

We are disheartened to hear that many elements of your experience when visiting the home were disappointing. Please note that we endeavour to answer all phone calls promptly, however, due to Covid19, all medical assessments are completed via telephone thus keeping our lines busier than before. The home has doubled the number of telephone handsets to ensure residents are able to communicate with their relatives. In addition, we are proud to promote cultural diversity in the workforce, and we are proud to say that all our staff have different levels of care qualifications which requires a good level of written and oral communication skills in English. In regards to the resident being "allowed" to spend time in bed, it is our policy to respect choice and promote person-centred care. Residents are checked regularly and easily able to call for assistance using our Nurse call system. We have a minimum of two domestic staff on shift, ensuring the home is clean and over 10 diffusers in place.
