My mum has dementia, we were looking for a respite placement initially for 4 weeks. After visiting many homes we came to Acorn Hill and knew straight away this was 'the one'. Friendly, knowledgeable, clean, bright and airy, reassuring and good-humoured too. Nothing was too much trouble, we were shown
around, on two different occasions, encouraged to interact with residents and staff. All our many, many questions were answered with professionalism, understanding, experience and patience. Mum was settled in the lounge with tea and cake within half an hour of arrival, she was spoken to at all times, with reassurance and at her level of understanding. Never was she spoken 'over', as if not there. During the lockdown all staff I have spoken to have been happy to spend time chatting about mum, little anecdotes of her day, which has certainly helped the family with the separation. We have decided to make Acorn Hill Mum's permanent home now, as we feel it is a perfect home from home for Mum.

Since Mum went into Acorn Hill at the beginning of the year (January 2020) the care she has received has been nothing short of outstanding. The management team and care staff are friendly and approachable, interacting with Mum with kindness and respect. Whilst, also responding to any questions or concerns
that we might have too.
It probably goes without saying that this has been a challenging year, resulting in the support and professional care Mum now receives. Along with the coronavirus pandemic adding to what was already a challenging start to the year, the staff at Acorn Hill, despite the additional threat of the coronavirus pandemic, have ensured Mum's safety whilst continuing to look after Mum with the love and kindness we feel she deserves.
I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the staff at Acorn Hill. It is no exaggeration when I say that they have provided outstanding care in which Mum's health and wellbeing has dramatically improved.

My dad recently passed away, having been at Acorn Hill initially for respite and then as a full-time resident. He thoroughly enjoyed it at all times, the most important aspect to him being looked after and cared for by people who were not just there to do a job; but who really cared about making him
comfortable and happy, treating him with respect and dignity right up until the end. There was always time for a chat and a catch up on the days news and football scores.
It was a great comfort to me and all the family.
As a visitor, I was looked after just as well, and now my mum is a resident, and I look forward to my continued visits and know she's in good hands in between.

My Nan moved in and settled really well. Staff have worked really well with Nan to get her appetite back after a long spell in hospital.
We have found the home very friendly and welcoming. Staff take time getting Nan ready, she states she is never rushed to get ready in a morning.
We are pleased that
they encourage Nan to continue doing for herself what she can, this has helped her regain some small independence that she lost in hospital.
Our visits to Nan have been lovely, we enjoy a cuppa in the garden where there is plenty of seating, listening to and watching the birds.
We can’t fault the level of care Nan receives and staff are visible throughout the home and happy to stop and answer any questions.
I would highly recommend this home to others.

Going into Acorn Hill Nursing Home the first time I knew it was the place for my mum. The manager was extremely friendly and informative. The staff are all lovely. They treat my mum with respect. Everything we have asked for they have provided. The garden is beautiful, mum loves it. We are made welcome
every time we visit.

My partner is an extream and the staff do a very good job of taking care of her in all ways. I came to help one of my partner's meals every day and think the meals could be improved. Easy for me to say.
The rooms are always clean but on having to change my partner on her bed, the room is left smelling
not so good. Can the staff clean and deodourise on leaving the room?
The management and staff are accessible most of the time.
The home does a great job under very difficult conditions.
Staff should be made aware of new residents' lack of abilities, also the nursing staff.

A big thank you to all the care staff. When someone you love has to go into a care home it’s such a traumatic time. But having met the management and care staff who are all so caring puts your mind at ease. All the residents are happy and each time you visit you interact with the staff who do such a
wonderful job. It must be a hard job at times but the staff always care. It’s a pleasure visiting a loved one.

I see some of the difficulties for the staff with my experience of other nursing homes and hospital chaplaincy over many years in general and mental health units.
I admire the patience of the staff and have it confirmed by some of the patients alert enough to understand.
Many of the patients cannot
converse but I like the way the nurses chat with them as they attend them.

An excellent service in a well-run and homely environment. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Well trained and highly supported by experienced and caring management, who also give first class professional advice to family members. It is fast approaching my wife's first year here at Acorn Hill. I am thoroughly satisfied with how my wife has settled in and think we have been fortunate to get a placement here.
The home deserves tremendous praise for the event on the day of the Royal Wedding. The garden tea party was excellent

Friendly staff from cleaners to care workers and nurses. I feel that my father is being cared for in an environment where the staff do care. The recent addition of an activities coordinator gives us hope that my father and the other residents are being engaged in new activities that were previously
not possible to deliver. Some staff have worked there for many years and that bears testament to their devotion to their specific job which often extends to other roles within the home as and when called for. Top marks to the entire team and especially those who carry on smiling through the sometimes difficult and testing situations that inevitably arise.
