My mother has been a resident for fifteen months and although her health has deteriorated in this time, she has received dignified, respectful care at all times and I am always made to feel welcome whatever time of day I visit. My mother's dementia is understood by the caring staff and mum always looks
clean and well cared for. I cannot thank them enough for the peace of mind this gives me and my family.

Even though the building may appear a little "tired", that can not be said of the attitude of the staff. They have all welcomed dad. They are friendly and very hard working. All of his individual needs are being assessed, met and monitored. Dad is comfortable and made to feel safe and secure.
Nothing
is ever too much trouble for the staff, ready with a cuppa at all times. A beautiful environment with skilled and caring staff, fresh, bubbly and energetic.

My mother was in this care home for a number of years and the staff there were quite simply brilliant. All the staff are trained and sympathetic to the need of residents who lack capacity. The level of care given and the way it was delivered provided constant reassurance to me and other family members.
The home is managed very well and every effort is made to make residents comfortable. The kitchen made significant alterations to accommodate changing dietary needs and did so without any fuss. The home is well run and although the decor may be a little dated in certain areas this does not detract from the excellent care given by the staff.

Residents and their families are encouraged to take part in activities and fundraising events and these help to foster good relations. What matters is the standard of care and this was excellent.

My husband who suffered from Parkinson's Disease spent four months in Canwick Court. All the staff were consistently caring, sympathetic, understanding and, above all, cheerful. His speech had become impaired by the PD but they became adept at understanding him in his various likes and dislikes. I cannot
praise them all enough for the way in which they looked after him.

I have a couple of comments. I felt the staff are very much overworked, there weren't enough of them. However, they overcame this difficulty with great good humour. The second comment is about the food. I realise that feeding people in care is very complex, providing for the hugely varied needs of the elderly and disabled. but I do feel quite strongly that my husband would have benefited from a more varied diet.

Finally, I and my family were extremely touched by the turnout of staff for his funeral in spite of the difficulties that much have presented.

I was ill - having falls and was give respite care. I ended up in hospital, then returned to the care home. I found the whole episode frightening and distressing. At the home I was made welcome and at ease, the staff were so friendly and helpful. They encouraged me to eat and drink, soon I was feeling
right at home. My independence was encouraged, but where I couldn't manage their interaction was so professional I never felt any embarrassment. The home is inviting - sweet smelling and fresh - the staff smart and well trained.

Visited the home during a busy period. there was a warm friendly atmosphere and staff were buzzing around and caring, having fun with the residents.
I did notice that information boards ie. menu and staff on duty looked untidy and were not up to date.
The grounds of the care home at the bottom of
the car-park were in a deplorable state with old chalets left to rot. Clearly a health and safety issue. My mother loves living at Canwick Court.

Reply from Denise West, Head of Care, England at Canwick Court Care Centre

We appreciate the comments of GK and would like to note that the works to the car park and grounds are ongoing following the road works to the main road by Lincoln County Council which have had an adverse affect on the premises. Hopefully these will be fully addressed during 2016. Your comments regarding the staff appearance will be raised at the next planned staff meeting in January 2016. Thank-you for your kind comments regarding the care delivered to your relative and others.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.947)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.947) out of 10 for Canwick Court Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.614 for Canwick Court Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.614

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Canwick Court Care Centre is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
