Would like to thank you for the excellent care my mum received here . The staff are amazing and kept me informed of mums health and care at all times sadly she passed away on 25/2/2025 peacefully. She loved it here and really appreciated them even in the last few months when her health deteriorated.
I couldn't be more grateful to them for there care she received

My husband spent his final days here and the care was excellent. He was kept, very comfortable in an immaculately clean, warm room and treated with great respect by the staff. All of his needs were dealt with carefully and promptly. My family and I were always welcomed in a very positive way and staff
gave us time to answer any questions we had. We couldn't have asked for a better place for his final days.

First, I must apologise for not submitting a review earlier, I have been meaning to but just not got round to doing it. I know how important reviews can be when someone is looking for a home for their loved one. My Mum was at White Gables from November 2023 until March 2024. All of the staff were friendly
and caring, always with a smile. My father used to visit every day in the afternoon and they always made him a cup of tea when on their busy rounds and took the time to talk to him too and ensure that he was coping. My Mum received the best care, she was always clean and dressed and took part in activities, such as making Christmas decorations, which she enjoyed. Sadly, Mum passed away in March 2024. She was treated with such care and dignity in her final days and we could not have asked for more from the staff. It is a lovely care home in pleasant surroundings.

The entire staff team at White Gables exude kindness and care. When I visited my husband once/twice every day, I always experienced smiley faces, patience and politeness.
The nursing staff were both proactive and responsive. My husband was at the home for his final weeks, following stays in hospital.
His palliative care was given in a dignified and thoughtful way. All the staff are to be praised for the manner in which they carry out their often challenging tasks.

I often visit my wife at mealtimes, because I still like to feel like I'm still caring for her. My wife is on a liquid diet. The staff check we are both ok. They often offer me a drink even though it's a really busy time. White Gables doesn't smell, it has pleasant gardens. The staff are friendly. Thank
you, for looking after my wife.

First 6 months, amazing. Since the new owners have taken over most of the staff have left. The food portions have gotten smaller, and medical care (dietary and medication) has been ignored or late. A lot of agency staff are here now and the care is not consistent. I had no tablets for 3 days because
of a mix-up. No butter or cheese for tea so I had 2 dry crackers, unacceptable! My room is dirty too.

Reply from Charleen Trueblood, Home Manager at White Gables Care Home

We are so sorry you feel this way regarding the care you receive here at the home. We strive to support all our residents in a caring and safe manner. We do have several options of meals per day, and we promote a varied diet of a nutritional value. We have a nurse on duty 24 hours a day and linked to one GP surgery for the whole home which always promotes consistency and support with weekly ward rounds. The home has an excellent care team, and we use minimal agency workers. The home is cleaned to a high standard, but some residents choose not to have this service every day.

Lovely kind and compassionate staff. Very gentle and caring.
We spent night and day with them by my mother's side. They showed us compassion and kindness at all times. Nurses and staff are all very knowledgeable and the home is kept nice and clean.

I can't fault White Gables which became home for the last six weeks of Mum's life. Myself and my husband were made welcome. Everything was explained to us, even the way the meals were prepared. They were very understanding with her and dealt with her needs, especially after she had a fall in the night.
We would like to thank the manager and the agency nurse for the exceptional care that they gave Mum in the time she was there and all the other members of staff. The final two days were very hard, but our wishes were taken into consideration regarding the final hours of Mum's life. We were told that she wouldn't be alone in her final hours and she was also made very comfortable and pain free. Once again, thank you for all your care.

I am very pleased indeed with White Gables - staff, facilities, meals and choice of meals and ability to try and resolve my wife's mobility at night problem. There were always to be difficulties with the ongoing problem created with the onset of my wife's Alzheimer's disease. Every effort has been made
to make my wife's stay enjoyable, to the extent that she has often remarked 'I like this place!' which in itself is gratitude indeed. Many thanks.

My lovely grandad passed away at White Gables on January 31st. He had been a resident for about 6 weeks (sorry if I get the timing wrong). I had travelled from London to be with him at the end. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the incredible care he was given. The carers and nurses truly not
only cared about him but also me, and treated him with the utmost respect and dignity. They looked after me when I was struggling with what was happening and they always talked to him and about him with such compassion. The staff at this home are second-to-none and anyone would be lucky to be a resident here or relative of a resident. Thank you to the carers and every other member of staff that cared for Grandad and me over the last four days. The unbearable was made easier because of the love you showed us. I will never forget you and what you’ve done for us. Thank you. We love you. Keep caring.

After having a bad experience with a previous care home, as a family, we were anxious about where to go next. However, I cannot thank the manager and all the staff at White Gables enough! We feel comforted knowing my grandma is settled and well looked after. The staff are so lovely and accommodating.
Thanks again for all your hard work, it really is appreciated!

The care at this home is second to none. The staff are friendly and reliable and make you feel at ease. They have been great with my Nan all through the pandemic and have made sure that we have continued to have contact in these difficult circumstances. I would like to thank each and every one of you

I cannot explain how relieved I am that my husband is so well cared for. The covid virus has caused so many problems for all the staff to cope with. I do miss him but knowing he is well cared for is a comfort for me.

My mother and father were both in this home. My father died of Coronavirus in April. The care is very good, but I find the communication a bit lacking. I have Lasting Power of Attorney for my mother for finance and her welfare but wasn't told that she had 2-tests for Coronavirus by the staff. Additionally,
she has lost many items of clothing, and the quality of food has declined in the last couple of months. Overall, my mother and I are very happy with the care and attention that she receives. I would recommend White Gables.

Reply from Diane Kerwin, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at White Gables Care Home

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We apologise you feel communication from the home was an issue. The Home Manager is available daily by email or phone to discuss any concerns you might have. Our housekeeping team have informed us there are two residents with the same initials, and an offer of laundry ID buttons was made to try to resolve this issue. We aim to provide enjoyable, nutritious meals for all our residents, and I am pleased to say their feedback has been positive. Please be assured resident weights are monitored either weekly or monthly as needed.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.067)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.067) out of 10 for White Gables Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.540 for White Gables Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 100 Ratings = 4.54

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.527 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Gables Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.727

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
