A small home, Pytchley Court offers a more intimate environment than many residential settings. The home is purpose-built and has been recently refurbished, offering residents a modern yet homely feel where there are plenty of spaces to relax, dine and socialise, with everything designed for maximum comfort. My mum was a resident at Pytchley Court for just over a year. She suffered from dementia and did not like change or unfamiliar surroundings and could be demanding with her requests. She loved Pytchley Court because the people were fantastic and made her smile. Unfortunately, mum passed away earlier
this month and the staff were all fantastic with their support and help during this difficult time.

Since Pytchley Court failed a CQC inspection and was put into 'special measures' I have noticed a considerable increase in the standard of care towards residents and customer service towards relatives. The care staff are attentive, the nursing staff are more professional, listening to the patients and
take action. The home has a more 'friendly' atmosphere and the residents (and care staff) appear happier.
The senior clinical nurse has a positive attitude, is pro-active, approachable and professional. She obviously 'cares' about the residents and 'their' home.
The home is clean, me relative enjoys the food and the increase in the type of activities she enjoys. She is now much happier.
If I had been writing this twelve months ago, just after my relative entered Pytchley Court, my concerns would have been very different. The level of nursing care was poor and erratic, some staff did not listen or appeared no to be interested in any concern voiced to them. There was very little consistency in the level of care staff who seemed to change on a daily basis and it was difficult to speak to the manager. My relative did not 'thrive' or appear happy for several months.

My impression of Pytchley Court Care Home is that most of the staff are kind and caring and that my mother looks and feels well cared for. She says the food is very nice. My view is that there are not sufficient staff or training to offer the standard of care the company claims such as "leading the
way in dementia care". For me, too many of the residents are left to fall asleep in chairs and sometimes have to wait for enough staff to be able to take them to the toilet etc.

In order to establish the number of staff required to be on duty the home regularly reviews the dependency levels of our residents and uses a tool to help us determine how many staff are required on duty. The home offers a comprehensive programme of activities, however, not all residents choose to participate in these. We as a Church visit Pytchley Court 3rd Wednesday of each month to deliver a short Church service, Hymns, Prayer and a short message. We are always very warmly welcomed by staff and residents. In my experience, most of the residents are happy and pleased to see us. We have a great relationship with
the Activity Coordinator and have worked well with her over many years.

Ten years ago, my mother-in-law received care and kindness at Pytchley Court for the last two months of her life.
Now, a dear friend, in her mid-nineties is at Pytchley Court via several weeks in hospital, seriously ill. Within two weeks of going to Pytchlet Court, in a "bed-ridden" state and scarcely
eating or drinking, my friend is up during the day in a chair. Eating much better, receiving visitors and thriving. Her hair looks lovely and all the staff I've met couldn't be kinder or more welcoming. It's a wonderful place.

My mother is unable to walk and needs a hoist operated by two staff. She has occasional visits to the doctor/hospital/dentist and is accompanied by a carer. I have to provide soap, toothpaste and tissues for her, which surprised me but might be a general requirement of all care homes.
She sits in
the dayroom and watches television and occasionally attends a short concert put on for the residents with appropriate vintage music. She tends to keep to herself and at the age of 92 this is unlikely to change, but I think the idea of residents being interviewed and a book of memories being kept is a good one and could benefit future generations. The staff are caring and respond to all her needs.

I have found all the staff to be very kind, friendly and attentive to residents.
I feel my father is very well cared for.
He looks well looked after - clean, tidy, comfortable and happy.
They tend to his needs very well and despite his shortcomings in communication, they managed to get to know him
well and understand his character in a short space of time.
Medically they are very on the ball and well equipped to deal with a wide range of health issues.

My mother has only been in your care for a few weeks she has low blood pressure the staff are monitoring it regularly. I am very very happy that she is out of her bed and is sitting in the lounge instead of being confined to her room all day. The carers ask her how she is feeling and if there are any
signs of her blood pressure dropping they take her back to bed. All staff are very friendly and approachable if any assistance is required. I feel confident that my mother is receiving the care that is required.

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“For me, kind care is taking the time to understand our Residents’ individual needs and cultures.”


As a Registered Nurse with 43 years' experience, Sue has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. Sue is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Having worked in the care sector for many years, Sue closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. Sue extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


Sue also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Pytchley Court.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Sue remarked:


“There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the Residents with a smile on their faces. I love to see them happy.”


Outside of work, Sue enjoys gardening and regularly tending to her chickens at her home.
