We faced a real challenge finding a "homelike" care place for my 89-year-old dad after many months in hospital that could provide safe 24-hour medical care of some complexity.
The home manager visited my dad in the hospital and met with his hospital team a number of times and put together an excellent
solution.
The staff are caring, knowledgeable, and helpful: I find I can ask any of them for help and they will do their best to support.
My dad is safe, well cared for and, given the situation he finds himself in, as happy as he could be.
I knew nothing of nursing care, both the practical and the organisational side, so being introduced to the manager and the Symphony team has been a godsend.
Thank you Symphony.

Thank you for the review and feedback regarding your father's care at our home. He does now appear to be more settled and we have managed to stabilise most of his medical and care needs - which as you know have been challenging and very unpredictable. He is now interacting more and he certainly is happy and contented with his room, the staff, and being at Symphony.

Symphony House Care Home is a family for the elderly. Serving with love and compassion. Fostering a communal and loving environment bringing healing to the mind and body. The manager could be classed as a modern-day saint. He cares and loves all those in his care, goes above and beyond the call of duty.
The care home staff too care for their older family members. Highly recommended for those wanting quality, and loving care for their older family members.

Thank you for your lovely review of our home. We know Mum became very happy here and over time we could also see that she began to enjoy company, was comfortable and contented. We also know how important your calls, visits and video calls were for her - loving her family. We were fortunate to be able to share time with your mum and have memories of her sense of fun, radio into the night and laughter. She was always lovely and thankful for the care and support she received.

Dad has been a resident at Symphony House since October 2023 following a 6 month hospital stay. As a family, it was one of the most heartbreaking realisations that we were no longer able to care for Dad at home.
From the very first assessment of Dad in hospital the manager of the home showed warmth
and kindness, knowledge and expertise in Dad's needs and was very reassuring of our concerns. The care Dad has had and is receiving in the home is exemplary. Every member of staff from the nurses, carers, cleaners to the cook and handyman - all interact with my Dad with kindness and with us as a family. We know every member of staff and they know all of us - they are all very supportive and caring.
We are invited to participate in events such as Christmas, Halloween, Chinese New Year, Valentine's lunch as well as bingo, beetle drives, and sing-a-longs. We are still making treasured happy new memories together as a family.
It is truly a very special place.

Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review of our home and for the staff. We all know how poorly your Dad has been and that each day can be different for both him and yourselves. It has always been very obvious to see and feel the care and love you all share together. We are always pleased to see you all joining with our activities and Dad always manages to bring a smile to our faces - in the nicest possible way! We also recognise all the care and encouragement from your mum and family which extends to others in the home. We hope that there are still many more opportunities to make more lovely memories in this chapter of his life. Thank you.

My father has been at Symphony House since February 2023 to now. The proactive care, kindness and expertise of the colleagues at Symphony House is outstanding. Every member of staff knows us (the family) by name and we them too. They are attentive and supportive and they feel like part of our family.
We
never wanted Dad to go into a care home, but due to his nursing needs we didn’t have any other option. But, the care he receives, not only from a medical perspective but also from a love and support perspective, has blown us away.
There are always activities going on and there is a huge sense of community in the home.
Dad's condition is made more complicated due to underlying conditions and therefore he is at a higher risk. The team are very aware of this and they are very proactive in his care, ensuring that he has not had any relapses.
I honestly can’t speak more highly of the manager, nurses, care assistants, kitchen staff, cleaners and the caretaker; they are all wonderful.

Reply from Darren Weeks, Registered Manager at Symphony House

Thank you for completing a lovely review about our home and the staff. We can all see and understand the impact of the sudden changes in your dad's abilities due to his condition. What is also very obvious is the love, care and attention he receives from you and all his family every day. I believe that the improvements he has made since his admission to Symphony have not just been down to the care and support from the home, but also because of the devotion, encouragement and involvement from your mum and family. This has also extended into the home with your support for our activities, other residents and staff. Symphony House is the home that it is because of residents and families like you. Thank you.

Having sustained a fall in her home whilst in the care of another provider and after a long difficult few months in hospital, we are so glad Mum (now the option of returning to her own home was taken from her) resides in Symphony House in Northampton. At Symphony House, she receives excellent care,
which has led to her being far more settled, something the local hospital failed to achieve. And although Mum is now bed-bound and unable to hold a progressive coherent conversation, we are no longer concerned for her welfare. The staff are always friendly, and the manager keeps us up to date with any issues that need addressing.
It was our mum's wish, and that of our family, that she would see her days out in her own home, but Symphony House has provide to be an excellent alternative.

My father has been staying at Symphony House for just over a year now, and over the course of the year, he has received outstanding care and medical attention. He has a good relationship with the staff, as do we, and nothing is too much trouble; they are always willing to help. We have every confidence
in Symphony House and its management and staff.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you, which is really not enough, for the love you gave Dad whilst he was in your care.
Dad could not have been looked after better, and I really appreciate all the care you gave him.
It has been a difficult time for me, but it was made much easier knowing Dad has
been in the best of hands with everything he needed. That made such a difference to me.
Once again, thank you all; I hope you all realise how invaluable you all are and what a difference you make to people's lives by doing what you do.
I hope you will continue to think of Dad, especially when you hear the words cup of tea or piece of cake.
With kindest regards always.

Symphony House has provided excellent care to my mother since she moved in, in 2020. She was admitted with pressure ulcers and the debilitating effects of Covid acquired in the acute hospital. Symphony House has healed her pressure ulcers, reduced her pain and prevented further occurrences of skin breakdown.
In addition to the physical care, she is treated like "one of the family.

From the very first day, my husband was treated with excellent care and attention by all of the staff the entire time he was in Symphony House. My son's and I were always made to feel welcome on our visits, and we could see by my husband's response to the staff that he was happy to see them.

I am very impressed with the care and compassion given to my aunt during her last years and days. The care given was just right for her, ensuring she was comfortable, stimulated, and her dietary needs were looked after. I could not have asked for better and am very grateful to the manager, his leadership
enables the objectives of the home to be met. Thank you.

My mum (having recently passed away) had been a resident for the past six and a half years at Symphony. The standards at the home are extremely high in every respect and I can honestly say this is the most wonderful home we could have found for her. The staff go out of their way to nurse and nurture
all in their care, in fact, they treat everyone like extended family and friends. We know that through the care and devotion that she received during this time her life was extended by many years. Whilst at the home, Mum lived, she laughed and above all she enjoyed life and I for one could not have asked for more. More than that the staff not only supported and cared for Mum but for her family too. When we could not be there they were her guardian angels and I have nothing but praise for all the wonderful staff at Symphony and would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of them and wish them well for the future.

I would like to put on record my gratitude to the manager and all the team at Symphony House Nursing Home for the care and effort they put in to looking after an elderly friend. She was 86 and had undergone surgery to her knees / hips over the previous 18 months, recovered from cancer, and had a few
medical conditions. She was now immobile, and her memory was getting poor at times.
My wife and I viewed a few care homes before we chose Symphony House. It just felt more homely, the manager, but also a qualified nurse, visited our friend in hospital to assess her and make sure they could meet her needs before offering her a place.
Our friend lived at Symphony House for about 14 months, until her sudden death. In that time, she kept the same room. She thrived in the environment, preferring to spend most of her time in the day lounge with other residents, generally observing the day to day goings-on and enjoyed the regular entertainment provided. She ate well and was always in good spirits.

Thank you for completing a review of our home. We were all saddened by your friends passing because she had improved, was stable and was enjoying her time within the home. She liked many of the activities but was also very happy to just chat. We also know that she was very fond of her "adopted family" and all the support, love and friendship you and your family had provided over many years. I know that she would always wish us to thank you for all that you continued to do for her even when she became a resident in the home. We take comfort that she passed away peacefully at the home with her friends and those who knew her well and cared for her.

After many months of visiting our friend on a weekly basis and being impressed with the excellent care given to her, we wish to comment on her passing at the end of December. The whole period was one of offering the greatest care and solicitude to her and those connected. Her room and property were
treated with respect and there was regular contact by the manager with ourselves and her other contacts. Her actual service near the end of January was attended by a large number of residents, visitors and staff from Symphony. On our visits to Symphony since her demise, we have continued to be received in a friendly and respectful way as previously.

Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to complete a review of our home. We know that your friend enjoyed and participated in nearly all the organised activities but she particularly looked forward to your visits and friendship. Thank you also for all the support, love and encouragement you have provided for other residents, friends and staff in the home. We are blessed to have such good friends who help to ensure that Symphony is more than just a nursing home. Thank you.

We were looking for a care home for my mum. After looking at a few, we went to Symphony House. On entering the home, it felt warm and friendly, all the staff and residents spoke to us as we went around. I had a number of questions to ask but they were all answered. Mum spent last Christmas and New Year
with them and had a great time. She loves the activities and enjoys joining in with the games. I can see mum being here and happy for a long time. I would recommend it. My son in law works with the ambulance service and says he hasn't seen one like this for a long time.

Reply from Darren Weeks, Registered Manager at Symphony House

Thank you for your review and comments about our home. It is very rewarding and great to see that your mum has improved so much since she has come out of the hospital. She is now back on her feet again and has a new chapter in her life. It is always nice to see residents and their families join in and enjoy our activities. I think it has been particularly good for your mum because she has assisted us to prepare and organise some of them.

Symphony House is an exceptional home that has provided the best, first class care to my father, and now my mother. The commitment of the manager is exceptional, and he leads a team that is unstinting in the care and support they provide to residents. The quality of the nursing is matched by the home's
focus on making the day-to-day experiences of the residents as rich and varied as possible. This includes a wide variety of entertainment, including singers, instrumentalists and visiting drama groups, as well as game afternoons, arts and crafts, and numerous other activities. There are also themed dining evenings when the main room can be transformed into anything from a cruise ship to a Portuguese restaurant. An annual awards afternoon honours many staff and some visitors and residents, and it is not surprising that the home enjoys many loyal friends who regularly drop by to spend time with the residents. We were very lucky to have this jewel of a home right on our doorstep.

My mother moved into Symphony House Nursing Home late 2018 after a spell in hospital. At the time Mother was not very well at all, but here we are, more than 12 months on, now heading for 98 years old, is still with us. Myself and the family are all convinced that this is all due to the nursing and
care she is receiving and has received from the staff at Symphony House.

When looking at care homes in Northampton for my mother in March 2019 - we looked at many. Symphony House seemed to be the most homely and friendly of all the care homes. When the manager showed us round we loved the layout - every room either had a nice view or access to courtyard gardens. My mother
has Parkinsons and the room she has opens out onto a beautiful courtyard which she enjoyed through the summer months.
When living in her own home, due to steps, she couldn’t access her garden - so it was a joy to find her sitting out in the gardens with the friends she has made at the care home.
The staff are friendly and professional - the manager - who always seems to be on duty gives his all and it makes for a very happy home. Plus the “friends” of the care home also makes it a very special place. The home has a real family feel to it.
Must also mention the programme of entertainment put on by the home - the residents and their families all get to enjoy it as well.

Symphony Care looked after my Pops, in his final days before he passed. At such a difficult time the staff were empathetic, caring and thoughtful of his needs. My family and I cannot thank the staff enough for making his time with them as comfortable as possible. Also, thank you to the home Manager
for accompanying him to the hospital and staying by his side and my brothers until my sister arrived. And to one particular member of staff for putting a smile on his face the last time I was there to visit him as he remembered my Father back in the 80’s when he was young and carefree.
We cannot thank you all enough.

We were asked by an elderly very dear friend, to find a nursing home for her. This was a great responsibility, and we chose Symphony. The choice for her needs, which was for 24 hour care, was perfect. The first impression was of a relaxed, calm and lovely atmosphere. The residents and staff all looked
happy and each member of staff we saw spoke to us. Her room was very pleasant, overlooking a beautifully kept courtyard garden and spotlessly clean. Over a short time our friend got frailer and needed more care and this was done in a kind and compassionate way. Her dignity was respected by each member of staff.
The manager of this home works endlessly to ensure that both residents and staff are happy. Family and friends are invited to join in with special events, our friend had only been in there for two days and she had a birthday party. The activity programme is extensive, even having a visit from a Shetland pony. Symphony is a wonderful home to end your days with care and comfort.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.154)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.154) out of 10 for Symphony House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.979 for Symphony House is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.979

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.175 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Symphony House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 5 = 0.8

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
