Simply the best. My mom was in the care of Symphony House for the last two months of her life, receiving palliative care. The manager and all of the staff treated her with love, care and dignity. I wish to thank them from the bottom of my heart on behalf of myself and my family. The manager had a deep
understanding of her needs in the last few weeks of her life and gave her back her dignity.
Thank you so much.

The palliative care my Mum received at this nursing home in the last precious few weeks of her life was outstanding. The staff were caring and attentive to my needs as well as Mum's needs. There were so many small acts of kindness that meant so much to me and my Mum. The manager, has an excellent understanding
of pain relief in palliative care, so much better than where we had been before. I cannot recommend Symphony House care home enough and will always be so grateful that my Mum and I found our way here.

Reply from Darren Weeks, Home Manager at Symphony House

Thank you, Sarah, for completing and providing a review of our home, especially during such a very sad and difficult time.
It is very reassuring to know that you and your Mum felt well cared for by my staff at the home. I will share your lovely comments with them.
We also felt that all your Mum's comforts and needs were managed well and that she appeared very comfortable and at peace during the last weeks of her life. This was also because of the love, care and devotion you provided and shared with her during her illness.
Thank you also for the individual cards you provided to staff - your kind words were very much appreciated by them and myself.

My husband was in the care of Symphony House for only a short while during December/early January.
He was made to feel very welcome by all the staff with whom he came into contact.
There was such a feeling of love and compassion that I haven't experienced elsewhere. They did their utmost to meet his
needs and make him comfortable. One could not wish for a more caring environment at this time of life.

Reply from Darren Weeks, Home Manager at Symphony House

It is always very heartening to know that my staff are caring and show compassion for residents and their loved ones especially during such sad and difficult times. We would like to add that we believe he was comfortable and at peace in our home because of all the care, love and support he also received from you and his family. Thank you.

All the staff are very caring and capable. Residents needs and the families needs always come first.
Any request is always met with a can do attitude I truly believe this home is the best in Northampton and probably the country.
I am confident that my mum is in the care of people who want to look
after her well being and this goes from the manager to kitchen and cleaning staff.

My mum was a resident of Symphony House for several months until she passed away. Her time there was wonderful, she was very well cared for. The manager and staff couldn't have done enough. Residents became like a family with friends included. There are lots of activities to take part in. Rooms are
very comfortable, clean with private facilities. Food very good.

My dad was placed at Symphony house (in a move from a hospice) to receive palliative care. All of the team worked hard to ensure dad's last months were comfortable and that he was treated with dignity and respect. He received excellent care and the team, particularly the manager, were of a great support
to me and my family as a very difficult time.

Reply from Darren Weeks, Home Manager at Symphony House

Thank you, for taking the time to complete a review. We could all see how devoted and caring you all were to make sure that your Dad's wishes, choices and plans involved him. He could not have wished for any greater care and love. Although Dad was so poorly, we would like to think that he still managed to enjoy new friendships and we have some special memories of the times you all shared at Symphony.

This home is managed by a very competent and empathetic person who has nursing experience so understands what is required when looking after the frail and elderly. There is no 'one-fits-all' regimental routine - the resident decides what and when and the staff try to accommodate. The manager sets a
high standard and his staff follow suit. This is called leadership.

There's always at least one qualified nurse on duty day and night. They seem to cater for all types of disability including palliative care. There is a Calendar of Events - theme nights, sing-a-longs, art classes, quizzes and pub/club outings. There's even a free bar - how good is that? And all the usual services including an in-house hairdresser. Lots of places to sit, including a couple of courtyards and a sunny patio. Plants are everywhere. Meals are wholesome and staff will assist residents with feeding.

All in all, a good place with caring staff and I would recommend you put this one high on the short list.

Thank you for providing and completing a lovely review for our home. We all knew how poorly your brother was from when he arrived at Symphony. We also know that he was very well supported by the love and care you provided for him. He knew you were always there for him day or night.
We can all take peace from his stay with us because he would often say that he felt at home and he was comfortable and without pain. Thank you for all your support, care and love which you also brought to our home and other residents, staff and families.

My mum has been a resident in Symphony since October 2013 and she has settled in well. The care provided by the staff is excellent caring and friendly with a dedicated care home manager and the team. Mum always looks nice and clean, she enjoys the food which is cooked on the premises, good homemade
food, the residents have a choice depending on their needs. There are various activities for the residents, motivation with pet dog, quiz and games afternoons and various singing and musical activities. My mum was in another care home before which had lots of failings. I was so pleased there was a vacancy for mum at this home. It has a very calm and homely setting and I feel her needs are met. She's very settled and happy thanks to the lovely team which makes this a special home.

Reply from D Weeks, Home Manager at Symphony House

Thank you for your lovely review of our home. We know mum is very happy here and we enjoy sharing her laughter and sense of fun. We also appreciate the support that you and her family provide which helps to make her feel that Symphony is her home too. Thank you.

My Mum has been a resident since the end of 2013. It was upsetting for both my mother and the family to see her go into a home, however, it has been beneficial for her, as she has been able to interact with the other residents and staff, instead of being isolated in her home. With the attendant concerned
over her well-being, requiring help with many aspects of her daily routine, washing, dressing, eating, etc, which is taken care of with smiles and humour. The home has regular activities including restaurant evenings, games afternoons and visits out to various local venues etc. The home has a friendly, happy and relaxed atmosphere, family and friends are welcome and encouraged to join in activities. Food is very good and consideration is given to individual likes and dislikes. Mum has her own room and bathroom and is always clean and dressed in her own choice of clothes. I know my Mum is safe and well cared for in a professional, warm and kind-hearted manner.

Above all, my Mum is contented and happy.

Thank you for your comments and for taking time to complete a review of our home. We all love having your mum at the home and she has certainly improved since her transfer from another care home to Symphony. She enjoys and participates in nearly all the activities and we know that she particularly looks forward to it when her family join in. Thank you too for all the support and encouragement you provide.

I had been looking for quite some time to find a suitable placement for my 96 yr old Nan. After a lot of correspondence, I was over the moon to be told by the Manager that he might have a suitable vacancy and would I mind going to have a look around? From the moment I walked into this large, light/bright
property, it felt like home from home. I was blown away. I was reassured too, to see so many happy, well-fed residents! Nan soon moved into a wonderful room. She was pleased the family had found her somewhere 'special'. We soon found out nothing was too much trouble and Nan was being well looked after. Sadly Nan only had 3 wks there before suddenly passing away. But the family can honestly say those 3 wks were prob some of the best weeks of Nan's life. Certainly during Nan's final few hrs she had nothing but 1st-class care from everyone, especially the Manager. Without him, the family couldn't have coped. Even today we are still in touch with the Home. Keep up the tremendous work everyone!!!

Thank you, Cheryl, for taking the time to provide a lovely review especially at such a very sad and difficult time for you all. It is always nice for the staff and myself to hear how residents and families feel about the care we provide. We know that Nan was very loved by you all and we could not but love her too. We recognise that we only have one chance to make sure everything is right when residents become so poorly. It is reassuring and heartening to know that you felt Nan and yourselves were well looked after. We will be very pleased to see you again at the home from time to time. Thank you.

From the moment we walked into Symphony House it was like being from home to home and we know we had made the right choice. The staff were all excellent, friendly, caring, understanding and informative, nothing was too much trouble. I can't praise the manager enough, he was there every step of the way
in my mothers illness explaining everything and helping us in all matters. This care home is a credit to him and his dedicated staff. My mother was only there for 2 1/2 weeks wish it could have been much longer.

My wife has been in the Symphony Nursing Home for over nine months. During all that time she has been very well cared for. My wife has a neurological problem and needs a lot of care but the manager and the staff are all very attentive to her needs. Apart from the nursing care the manager also arranges
an entertainment programme. There are several events each month culminating in a restaurant evening each quarter. These events are much appreciated. There is also a quarterly residents and family meeting. Any suggestions can be discussed and future plans are explained. The manager is happy to deal with any issues as they arise. The grounds of the home have two inner courtyards and a rear garden area. These provide pleasant areas to sit in when the weather is suitable. Visitors are welcome at any time and I have been able to be with my wife most of the day since she became a resident.

Our family has had 10 years experience of Symphony House. My mother was taken into their care 10 years ago six months after they opened and remained there until her death 8 years later. During her time there we were regular visitors and were in a position to observe life and development of the home
on a day by day basis. Mum was always treated with dignity, respect and kindness by the staff and her needs were well catered for. As she became frailer her care was tailored to accommodate her extra problems and this continued until her eventual death. Her "end of life" care was well planned and both Mum and our family were extremely well supported and guided through this most sad and difficult time. Since her death we have remained in contact with the home and still feel very much part of the Symphony House family. It has been a privilege to see how their excellent manager and his staff constantly strive to improve their service and make Symphony House a true home from home for their residents.

Dad has now been at Symphony for 3 months and has settled in well. I have been really pleased with the level of care that he receives. All the staff are understanding and sensitive to Dad's needs. I am happy in the knowledge that he is being very well looked after. From day one I have been kept fully
informed of how Dad is getting on. I have also felt included as part of the Symphony family, being invited to events at the home. I cannot fault the staff or the facilities available. I am so happy and relieved that Dad is getting the care that he needs and deserves. I would not hesitate to recommend Symphony to other families.

My Mum and Dad were both residents at Symphony House, Mum was a resident for over three years and was looked after and given the best care she could possibly have had. The manager and all of his kind and caring staff go that extra mile caring for residents and making Symphony House such a lovely Nursing
Home. They provide lots of entertainment for residents and their families, which Mum and Dad enjoyed until they became too poorly to participate. As time went by my Dad also became poorly and we were very lucky and relieved that there was a room for Dad at Symphony House. Dad was happy to be with Mum and the staff would always take him too see Mum in her room when he wished until he became too poorly. Symphony House became our family over the years and I could not of asked for the best possible care for my lovely Mum and Dad. I would 100% recommend Symphony House to my family and friends.

When my mother entered the Symphony House, my first impressions were very pleasing. From the onset, she was treated with dignity and respect. The home is immaculately clean and well-run. Staff are friendly and efficient and nothing is too much trouble for them. My father who visited daily was treated
with the same respect. Laundry is done daily, and with their own hairdressing salon, residents are encouraged to keep themselves neat and tidy. The food is excellent with a varied menu to suit all tastes. Residents are entertained two or three times weekly which is very enjoyable. Although disabled mum was very happy at Symphony House until her death in July this year. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

This is a superb care home. My father has been resident here for over 3 years now and the standards never slip.
There is a real homely feeling (not like many "hotel style" homes springing up). The staff are all very sociable and staff turnover is very low - which surely speaks volumes for the atmosphere
of the home.
Highly recommended

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.154)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.154) out of 10 for Symphony House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.979 for Symphony House is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.979

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.175 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Symphony House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 5 = 0.8

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
