I have visited a very close friend who is currently a resident twice in the last two weeks. I am very impressed with the home itself, its cleanliness, staff numbers and their friendly and caring approach to their patients. It must be gratifying for the patient and their families to know they are being
given the best of care.

The care given to my dad by the manager and her team was outstanding. So professional and still able to give that wonderful human touch, despite the COVID situation. The staff’s kindness and love will never be forgotten. Being far away and unable to see my father, every effort was made to let me FaceTime
him and communicate. The rehabilitation was awesome too, he absolutely loved it. I highly recommend Turn Furlong on every level, it was a world-class experience.

Did not enjoy my time there. Being in isolation did not help but did not like the way I was spoken at times like I am busy, get on with it. Also, a patient next door crying told to shut up and wait. Why you on the phone all the time? Moaning at me because I wanted to go to the toilet too much, lost
my shampoo for my hair in the shower. Would not plug my phone in to charge as fed up with it ringing. Was told I do not know why you are in here, this is for rehab people?. I may have had a stroke but my brain functions well. I was a carer for 30 years and know how you should be treated. Also, there were problems about what medication I was to have, only prescribed stuff.

Reply from Service Manager at Turn Furlong Specialist Care Centre

We at TurnFurlong are very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience during your respite stay. As we support all the Covid cohort community in the specialist care centre discussions are always had with people seeking respite prior to admission. As you can understand this is to maintain safety for the service users and staff and understand how difficult it is for family members who do not visit. Our aim is to provide the best person-centred care for those we support. With legal guidelines with medication management that I am sure you would understand we are unable to dispense medications that are not within our homely medications or that have not been prescribed.
Following my investigation into your points raised, I am unable to provide an answer to the person crying as described as the rooms adjacent were vacant at the time.
We are sorry to hear about your experience. We are more than happy to discuss further with you and should you wish, please do not hesitate to contact me direct.

Mum was here for a couple of weeks after being on HDU in the general hospital and after a stay on Cedar Ward the team here got her confidence back, physio was there most days and from cleaner to the big boss staff were great. Any questions or worries we had were dealt with quickly and efficiently, even
calling Mum at home once she had left to check on her. Greatest thanks and respect to you all!

Grateful thanks for the care attention given to my wife during her elongated stay.
Words alone cannot convey the comfort given to myself and family knowing that she was happy, comfortable and well cared for during my enforced absence.
My apologies for discolouring the car park via my accident and
also so many thanks to all the staff who rushed to my assistance and support.
Overall a very gratifying experience and I wish health, happiness and success to all concerned.

My mother was admitted for respite care in May 2019. We were very pleased with the care she received for the three months that she was at Turn Furlong.
The staff on Robin (dementia) unit were amazing! The warmth, compassion, humour, professionalism and friendship they demonstrated towards my mother
made us, and her, feel totally at ease throughout her stay. All areas of Turn Furlong are clean and well maintained, the food is plentiful and fresh and staff try their best to engage residents in activities. I would not hesitate to recommend Turn Furlong to others based on our experiences.

I would like to thank all members of staff who helped look after my auntie in the last weeks of her life. I know she wasn't always easy but she felt quite comfortable with you all which made it a lot easier for the family. Thank you for your care.

I am so disgusted how my 92-year-old nan was treated and the lack of help she had while in here. She started to deteriorate rapidly. All she needed was some physio and help to build her confidence up from breaking her hip. Your staff hardly spoke to her and she was just left in her chair pretty much
all day, without any exercise or conversation with anybody. Never would I recommend this place to any family or friends to go to!

My mother has been in Turn Furlong several times over the last few years and each time has met with very professional care, kindness and respect. Not only are they good with their clients, but also to the relatives at an extremely stressful time. I cannot praise this care home enough.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.098)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.098) out of 10 for Turn Furlong Specialist Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Turn Furlong Specialist Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (10 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 10 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.098 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Turn Furlong Specialist Care Centre is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.098

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
