The staff looked after my mother with care and compassion, they were thoughtful and kind towards her at all times. All staff, including the management, were very approachable and took the time to answer any questions or worries we had.

Professional management team sets the tone so that all staff members are caring, considerate and conscientious. They all have a genuine interest in the well-being of the residents and often go "the extra mile" to ensure their comfort and happiness. The food is varied and tasty and there are frequent
cups of tea/coffee and biscuits (for visitors too) - just like home.
All seasonal occasions are celebrated with family/friends invited to join in. Staff also bring their own children which the residents find uplifting. Many of the activities are connected to these occasions, e.g. Christmas decoration making. Well do every day.

I can not fault this lovely care home. My mother was a resident here for five years, was treated with love and care throughout her time.
Unfortunately, my dad is now having to be cared for at Blyth Country House Care Home and I have been part of their family now!
At these difficult times, they have
been amazing.

Reply from Kate Wilson, Manager at Blyth Country House Care Home

Our dedicated staff work hard to meet the needs of all our residents and visitors, so I will pass on your kind words. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Warm regards, Kate.

Uncle was 12 week fast track. Management was invisible after the first visit. Basic room heating element hanging off the wall and the room was cold and a draft through the window, curtains are not thick enough. Bed sores on admittance, air mattress not provided and sores not attended to. The window
opened to disguise the smell of urine. Not changed until the bedding also soaked. Dignity not shown. Request on admittance for downstairs empty room from upstairs out of way room was promised but not provided. Management did not put in an appearance even after his passing. Clinical lead was the only friendly helpful person we spoke to. Overall disgusting careless home.

Reply from Kate Wilson, Manager at Blyth Country House Care Home

Thank you. We genuinely appreciate all feedback so that we can monitor and improve our service. Firstly please accept my sincere condolences. We have reviewed your concern and our records and there seem to be some discrepancies. During the 4 night fully funded stay, in the room chosen by yourself prior to admission your relative was nursed on an airflow mattress and was assisted with all care needs but often refused. If you were offered the ground floor room after admission it was reserved and not available please accept our apologies. On 20th Sept you requested to speak to the Clinical Lead, I offered my assistance but you declined stating you would wait for her to be available. The following 2 days were my days off. 23rd Sept. I attended mandatory training but offered my assistance to the Clinical lead though not required as she is deputy in my absence. If you wish to further discuss your concerns we would be happy to investigate further to ensure that any misunderstandings are clarified.

Lovely old house in a rural setting and close to major road network. My initial fears of lack of organisation and warmth and communication slowly were allayed as I witnessed the staff's routines and talked with them. This home does have a family feel to it and the carers are observant of each resident's
needs. The rooms are warm and homely and the food looks plentiful and well-prepared. Residents are encouraged to be sociable but not forced.

My sister is in the home and has been a fair few months now.
I know she is looked after, cared for and treated like family!
She is happy and her health has improved since being admitted to Blyth.
Big shout out to the new charge nurse or clinical lead nurse; however you want to address her, she works
very hard and makes the residents feel so comfortable.
The care staff work hard and are always smiling.
Thanks again!

Reply from Dr Ahilan Nithiananthan, Provider Director at Blyth Country House Care Home

Thank you for your review and feedback. As a small independent privately run care home, we are able to maintain a warm, friendly and homely environment that is also flexible according to the needs and likes of our residents. Management do reward or support those that aspire to achieve. We have successfully encouraged our best carers to study for a degree in nursing and successfully financed and supported the registration of several nurses with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

My mum is in Blyth and has been a little while now.
All staff go above and beyond for her.
There is an excellent lead nurse at the moment and she takes things in her stride as well as a lovely group of care staff.
The food is excellent and I know mum is looked after.
Thank you!

My dad receives the highest standard of care and I feel good knowing he's in good hands. Especially with the nurse and the carers who go out of their way to make my dad look good for us to visit on arrival. Highly recommend and thank you.

My father was admitted here for end of life care in February. From the moment he arrived, he was given the best possible care. The staff are so warm and welcoming treating the residents like members of their own family. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone there truly goes the “extra mile”.
They
made sure my father’s passing was dignified and comfortable and they were there for us every step of the way. I can’t speak too highly of this lovely home.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.333)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.333) out of 10 for Blyth Country House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.000 for Blyth Country House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blyth Country House Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
