My sister was a resident in Lowmoor from August until November 2024, when she sadly passed away. The care she received was excellent. The atmosphere is homely and welcoming. The staff are amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Hygiene and cleanliness were spot on and never once smelled. I visited
every day and was made to feel welcome. The end-of-life care was thoughtful and caring towards us both. Would definitely recommend this amazing home. Thank you Lowmoor team, you really are the best.

I feel that the staff are very friendly, approachable and caring. The attention they give is second to none. My wife has settled in fine now after a very worrying start. She is a lot more settled in herself which makes us as a family confident in the care she is receiving.

My husband moved to Lowmoor from its sister home in October 2023. His condition had deteriorated and it was a very stressful time. I received tremendous support from management and staff at both homes to make the transfer as smooth as possible. He has settled in well due to the dedication, love and
care of the whole Lowmoor team. His face lights up when he sees his favourite carers and I can leave him at the end of a visit without. Lowmoor is well staffed and there is always a qualified nurse on duty on each floor. If a medical issue arises action is taken quickly and my husband's health is reviewed regularly in conjunction with the local surgery. When recommendations are made by other health professionals, they are swiftly acted upon. All the staff are so welcoming and I am so grateful to everyone at Lowmoor for their support and for giving my husband the expert care that I cannot. I cannot thank everyone enough.

My husband (who has Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia) was allowed to shower without supervision. He fell in the shower room and went to the hospital, he broke his hip. When he returned to the home. He was left in bed the majority of the time. Bearing in mind he was mobile before the fall. My feelings
are it was easier to leave him in bed than try physiotherapy. The residents are expected to sit in the lounge all day with very little interaction with staff. In the 2 years my husband was there I observed the care/activities and found them below the standard you would expect. It seems that the ladies downstairs are looked after well. But upstairs with the challenges of some residents they are just told to sit down constantly and then when someone kicks off it’s awful for everyone, especially the vulnerable residents who cannot get out of the way. I have moved my husband to another care home on 1/11/23.
Lastly: the meals they are serving are not of a high standard. Cheap and poor quality.

Reply from Manjas Lidder, Director at Lowmoor Nursing Home

Sorry to hear your experience did not meet expectations, however, we feel it essential to provide additional context to ensure a balanced view. Lowmoor provides specialist care and we encourage residents to maintain independence and dignity. Residents shower independently if they are able to do so, with staff available for support. Following your husband’s fall, the hospital advised a 20-week wait for physiotherapy. Our care team came up with a proactive plan to get your husband moving again but this could not be implemented as you dismissed the private physio arranged and then moved him to another care home. Even though your husband often requested to stay in bed, the activities team were regularly able to convince him to participate. These activities were uploaded to social media as we were aware you could not attend regularly. Finally, meals reflect the individual needs of our residents using local, good quality suppliers. We would like to wish you both the best for the future.

Thank you for leaving a positive review. Cleanliness is very important in a care home and we always maintain high standards. We also pride ourselves on being tidy, this is especially important with dementia clients as busy areas can get confusing! My friend has been a resident of Lowmoor Nursing Home for over four years now. She is always clean and is well looked after. She is struggling with Alzheimer's, so would most probably not be alive if it wasn't for the care she gets at this home. She always seems pleased to see me when I visit when she's
awake anyway. The staff are always friendly. Can't find anything not to like about this home.

The manager and staff have gone way beyond the extra mile in duty of care for my brother and consideration of my circumstances that have required sensitivity and cooperation throughout and in the arrangements for his funeral today, for which I owe a great debt of gratitude to all staff past and present.
Special thanks and commendation to the management on behalf of all family and friends.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.247)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.247) out of 10 for Lowmoor Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.409 for Lowmoor Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 115 Ratings = 4.409

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.838 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lowmoor Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.938

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
