After my father was moved hastily from his previous care home, which abruptly closed down, it was a worrying time for us but after my first visit to Stoneyford, my worries quickly evaporated. My first impression was a very good one and has improved with each visit. I feel that my father is in very good
hands at Stoneyford and in hindsight, the closure of his previous care home is a blessing in disguise. The staff are lovely and caring people too.

The home is now much improved with the appointment of the new manager and it seems that the staff are much more settled after recent upheavals. Vast improvements in putting residents at the heart of how the home is run. I am impressed with the changes to how meals are presented to my relative and am
pleased to note that there have been more outings/activities. As a family, we were considering moving our relative to another home but recent changes have encouraged us to stay.

We have noticed a distinct improvement in the management of the care home over the last 3 to 4 months since the appointment of the current home manager.
General improvement in cleanliness and staff attitude to caring for the residents.

When arriving at the nursing home to visit my wife I always get a warm welcome from the staff and an update on how my wife is and how she has been since my last visit. There is always staff around when I visit. Being it is summer and the windows are open the home smells nice and fresh. The home is now
offering a relatives day when I can have lunch with my wife. I took up this offer yesterday and I had a very good lunch and pudding with my wife, I think this is a good idea as I am at home this helped her through the meal time. The garden is nice and tidy and nice to sit out in.

I find the staff very cooperative to myself when I visit. I am pleased with the general atmosphere of the home and my mum seems to respond positively to the carers as far as I can tell. I have no issues at this time.

All the staff are working very hard to meet the needs of my mother.
The experience I have had is there is not enough time for the staff to engage with my mother for any activities she may be able to enjoy with her very limited eyesight.

Reply from Claire Hurworth, Careline Manager at Stoneyford Care Home

Dad needed a fast track bed and this was the only one available in the area. We ate with dad just after he'd moved in and the food was poor, both in quality and appearance. On pressing the buzzer for assistance, it was often a long time before anyone came. e.g. Dad had been sick, another time he'd soiled
himself. One of the family was with him at these times and searched the whole floor for someone to help.
The room was adequate. Staff were caring but overstretched to cope with the numbers of clients.

Reply from HC-One, Careline Team at Stoneyford Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.
You have highlighted concerns about the food on offer at the home, and we apologise if we have fallen short of the high standards we aspire to.
Each home has its own dedicated catering team, who prepare all meals using fresh, raw, ingredients. We regularly audit our dining experience to ensure the food is produced and served to a high standard, this includes a tasting of the dishes prepared.
Making sure Residents have a choice of their favourite foods is really important to us. We record individual preferences to make sure our fresh food menus are created around what they want most.
You have raised concerns about staffing levels at the home. Please be assured all of our homes meet or exceed the staffing guidelines that are set by our regulators. We are committed to providing Residents with the high quality, kind care they deserve and therefore tailor our staffing levels to ensure we can meet everyone’s individual needs.
The health, well-being, safety and happiness of Residents are our top priorities, and we work hard every day to ensure we are delivering the high quality, kind care all Residents deserve.

My mum stayed at the home for respite for me and to get mum back on her feet after an illness. It is the first time mum has been in a home. The staff introduced themselves to my mum.
The feedback I had from visitors was how well mum looked and it seemed to be suiting her as she was looking happy.
I
visited mum on my return on her birthday and I must say she looked really well. The staff were always pleasant and happy to help with anything if needed. Thank you to everyone for making my mum's stay a lovely time.

A clean homely place. Friendly staff, food is good. They do activities and trips out. Can come and have a meal with the resident if you tell them in the morning. Not too big sitting rooms so you can have space to be with visitors.

My mother was fast tracked by the NHS in December 1015. Since then she has gone from not eating and drinking to now having quite a good appetite, all thanks to the staff's patience and care. she is very comfortable and happy. She is clean and nourished. Nothing is too much trouble and I am at ease
with the choice I have made. All the staff are very caring and nothing is too much trouble. I thank them all.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.062)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.062) out of 10 for Stoneyford Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.759 for Stoneyford Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.759

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.303 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Stoneyford Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.603

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Rugma Mohan

Job Title: Home Manager

My name is Rugma, and I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Manager of Stoneyford Care Home, now proudly part of Serene Care.

I bring over nine years of experience in health and social care management, along with a strong academic background. I hold a master’s degree in business administration, a Bachelor's degree in IT, a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult Care, and a Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. This diverse skill set has enabled me to effectively manage both the care and operational sides of the home, ensuring that we consistently deliver high-quality, person-centred care.

At Stoneyford, my main priority is to create a nurturing, supportive environment where residents feel safe, valued, and truly at home. I believe that exceptional care starts with a dedicated, well-trained team, and I am deeply committed to the professional growth and development of our staff. By fostering a positive, collaborative atmosphere, we can ensure that our residents receive the best possible care and our team feels inspired and empowered.

In the coming months, I will be focusing on enhancing the quality of care, streamlining operations, and creating a welcoming space for residents, families, and staff. I also envision Stoneyford becoming a vibrant community hub, where local residents and families can engage and benefit from our expertise in residential, dementia, and end-of-life care.

I believe in maintaining open communication and operate with an 'Open Door Policy.' If you'd like to learn more about Stoneyford or discuss how we can continue to improve, I would be more than happy to meet for an informal conversation. Together, we can make Stoneyford a place where everyone feels at home.
