Brocklehurst is a lovely home, principally because of the lovely staff. My aunt was a long-time resident until she died a few days ago. She was always extremely happy at Brocklehurst and the staff there do much to generate a real family community. My aunt had speech difficulties and was not always the
easiest to understand, but the staff took time to listen to her. In fact, they knew and understood her well within about 24 hours of her arrival and the care and friendship she received was just what she needed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and the property always looked and smelled clean and well looked after.
All the residents seemed to be well known and understood by the staff - and clearly loved.
Thank you, Brocklehurst.

I sadly recently lost my mother whilst she was residing at Brocklehurst. Carers knew my Mum very well and were attentive, kind and patient at all times. Mum was settled and happy. The Nursing Staff were brilliant as her health significantly deteriorated and I was kept fully informed as to how she would
be cared for in her final weeks, and as a family, we were treated with great compassion and kindness. Everyone gave us immense support throughout, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Brocklehurst Nursing Home.

My father recently moved from hospital after a prolonged period of ill health to Brocklehurst Nursing Home.
Since this time, he is now much improved and stable. He has settled very well into his new home and he is very relaxed and very well cared for. The carers know the residents very well and the
nursing staff are very experienced and approachable.
The home has a very warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff within all the departments make you feel welcome and included in terms of updates and meetings.

Very poor care home. Please don't send any member of your family or friends to this home, you will be deeply unsatisfied. A dirty place not cleaned on a regular basis. My mum was in a room with ensuite. The toilet seat was cracked the toilet didn't flush when brought to their attention nothing was done
for three weeks. The toilet seat was changed but the flush still didn't work I have taken my mum out of this home. I advise you not to even consider this home.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.900)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.900) out of 10 for Brocklehurst Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.000 for Brocklehurst Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (68 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (16 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 126 Ratings = 4

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brocklehurst Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started my studies as a nurse at the university of Manchester. Three years later in September 2007, I became a qualified nurse and got a job as a staff nurse working on a cardiac surgery ward, my favourite placement as a student nurse.

Since then I’ve had a variety of different roles including critical care, custody nursing and working for the DWP.

I joined Surecare Brocklehurst nursing home as a nurse in 2017, worked my way up to be a deputy manager and then manager in June 2020.
