I am writing this review to help inform others of my really bad experience with St George's Care Centre Oldham. My experience with my mother's care was extremely poor and I had many concerns. Unfortunately, there are strict rules for leaving a review so I'm unable to go into details but my mum had been
in St Georges approx 4 years or more. My family had raised concerns we had with relevant agencies and wished for my mum to be moved but unfortunately, this didn't happen quickly enough. During my mum's time at St George's her physical and mental health deteriorated a lot. She died this year aged only 58. I'd just like to say to others that if you ever have concerns about anything don't let it go. People in care homes often can't fight for themselves so need our help.

Our mum has been a resident in the Grange unit for almost two years. The service provided is amazing. We cannot fault a single member of staff, as they are as dedicated to her as we are. Our mum is very happy here and refers to St George's as her home. We see the smiles our mum gives to all members
of staff, so this shows the great level of care given to her at all times. The staff go the extra mile in making sure our mum's needs are met and that we are very much involved with all decisions made about her care. Always made to feel welcome, nothing is too much trouble. We can ring anytime to speak to our mum, which has been a Godsend during the lockdown and even now is no trouble. We work full time so being able to speak to our mum helps as she has dementia. All the staff are amazing, and not just on our mum's unit. You can be waiting in reception, and you will always be treated with the utmost respect when staff are passing through. Rooms have everything that is needed in them and plenty of space.

My sister has only been at St George's for just over six weeks, and she has settled in really well. The staff have been wonderful, kind and caring. Without exception, all staff go the extra mile to interact with all service users, having time for each person in their care. My sister can be difficult
at times, but they seem to know exactly what to do and say to make her feel safe and comfortable.

My friend arrived in early February this year, and the difference in her generally is remarkable. She was in a care home prior to St George's. The staff are extremely caring and very attentive; they also try to include my friend in conversations and to join in with other residents. Prior to arrival
at St George's, she was very subdued and angry; this seems to have subsided quite a lot.

Most staff are great, but my uncle has always disliked the bed (high sides, like a cot). He feels trapped. The staff are overall good, and most of them have a good sense of humour. Communication with me is good (I am next of kin). My uncle stays in bed most days and is often in his pyjamas all day.
There are no activities throughout the day (not that I have seen), even now, Covid restrictions are easing.

My husband has been a resident in St George's Care Centre for almost four years. In this time, we have all suffered the effect that Covid has on us all. However, during this time, the care home has managed this with excellent results in keeping everyone safe. I am very happy with the care and excellent
service that is provided, and I would recommend the home to everyone. The staff are amazing and treat residents wonderfully.

Overall, I am satisfied with care. Feel she could be prompted with food, and particularly, drinking, as will not drink without prompting and has frequent UTIs.

My mum was "end of life" when she had her short stay at St George's Care Centre. It was difficult circumstances for my sister and I. The staff made us feel much better with their kindly manner, professionalism and general care. We were allowed to visit frequently with testing. The room was bright with
landscaping outside that my Mum liked.

My uncle has received the best care possible during his last twelve months. Unfortunately, he passed away in April, but the staff gave me so much comfort knowing he was looked after brilliantly. I couldn't recommend the Medlock Unit enough.

My wife was admitted to St George's in April 2018 after having spent the previous nine months in other institutions, NHS and others. My early indications were fairly favourable, but as time progressed, I was impressed with the care and consideration given to my wife. The layout of the unit is good with
personal en-suite bedrooms and communal dining, lounge and TV areas. Care is excellent.

My friend is in the home and although she isn't very aware of her surroundings I can tell she is relaxed and happy. She was not like this at the previous home. The staff are very good with the residents.

My son has been resident in St George's almost 12 months. I am so glad he found a place there. The staff, without exception, on his unit, are so kind and really look after him and he really seems to have settled down there.

St George's Care Centre is a lovely place and the staff are so caring and kind, always there to talk to ask questions if you need to and they make you feel very welcome when visiting.
It's very comforting to know a loved one is going to be cared for and looked after, it takes that weight off knowing
that when you leave they are not alone and they are very well looked after.

I would recommend St George's Care Centre to anyone who needed a relative or a friend to be taken care of 24-hours a day, if my family weren't able to look after me I would like them to take me there.

It's very secure and clean, the rooms are spacious and you are able to put pictures up, take flowers and gifts in and the rooms have their own bathroom, so your family member has plenty of privacy.

There is also a lounge where residents can mix with other people, watch tv, sit and read and even make friends.

My aunt who had a very bad stroke over five years ago and was left paralysed, unable to speak or swallow and so eventually had to be peg fed. She was in St Georges Care Center in Moorside, Oldham and I cannot praise them high enough, she was treated with kindness, care and dignity even that all she
could do was smile. The staff have been wonderful for all of those years, she never had any skin problems due to their attention to her needs. I would recommend them highly.

Current Review Score: 1.8 (1.750)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 1.8 (1.750) out of 10 for St George's Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 1.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 0.0 out of 5 from 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 1.750 for St George's Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (1 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 1.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 0 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St George's Care Centre is based on 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) =

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4. 0 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.4 = 0

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
