Unfortunately, my sister stayed here for over a year. My sister was unable to speak for herself, therefore many a time she was left in bed at times until the afternoon having been put to bed at times at 8 pm or just after. When questioned it was always under the guise "we asked if she wanted to get
up and she said no." Yet when we asked she always wanted to get up. They failed to clean her face properly and brush her teeth. During her time there, there was one incident that she didn't have a bath for 3 months and refused to give her a shower. She left after she had a brain seizure resulting in brain damage. No one knew how long she had a seizure, not one person enquired after her showing a total lack of care and feeling.

Certainly one of the best and cleanest care homes in the area. Good parking. Nice rooms. The lovely dining room and absolutely amazing staff on Summit Unit. Very professional in all aspects of my late husband's care. I know he wasn't easy at first, but I know he loved you all. Thanks, girls, you're
lovely. I sincerely hope the staff and residents are staying safe and well despite Covid-19.

I would like to commend all the staff who work on the Pilsworth unit, only yesterday they literally saved my father's life. If it wasn't for their vigilance and fast response my father might not be with me today. This is in addition to an individual caring approach that I see every time I visit.
I cannot praise the team and home enough for their caring and considerate treatment of my dad.

What a fantastic Carehome Millfield is, in fact, my mother-in-law must have thought at times she was in a social club she enjoyed herself that much! The staff on Pilsworth wing are wonderful, and genuinely caring and loving.
My mother in law had lived alone for thirty years and really wasn't in a good
place, but within weeks of being in Millfield, she turned a corner and went from strength to strength with the help and encouragement and interaction of the staff. Everything is on a personal level and everyone on first-name terms. They even had a trip out to Blackpool.
She once broke her arm in a fall but they accompanied her to and from the hospital, and when she later went into hospital with a stroke all the staff went to visit her. My mother in law died at age 91 from the stroke whilst in Fairfield Hospital, and I know she will be missed and I know that she will miss them. She lived there for 11 months and called it her second home.

I visited my Auntie today after travelling from North Yorkshire, and I brought my Auntie a lovely shawl and the staff were extremely kind and attentive.
Nothing seemed too much trouble.
The residents seemed at the heart of the care home.

The excellent care home, lovely and clean, and the staff are marvellous. Mum loves the food and she hasn't had a meal she didn't enjoy. My only issues are laundry even though they are labelled with her room number we have now 'lost' 16 pairs of knickers! And visiting after 1700 I've had to wait up to
20 minutes to get in because nobody has answered the doorbell, I can't ring because I do not take my phone to work to get in.

My mother was in Millfield from June 2018 to her passing on 24 May 2019.
The loving, attentive care and attention she received from all staff we encountered was first class.
Cannot think of a single criticism to make.
In short, would highly recommend Millfield if such a facility is needed.

Thank you to the wonderful staff from Millfield. The love and care you showed for Dad was second-to-none. Deciding to move Dad to Millfield exactly three months ago was not a decision that was made lightly. It took a lot for me - especially - to accept the situation. During his time with you and in
his final days it was clear how much Dad needed your level of care but I could not have asked for anything more. Again thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My mother has been in residential and now nursing for a total of seven years. Since the home was taken over by Qualiacare. The improvement is really noticeable, all the staff are the same but they no longer seem dissatisfied. My mothers care is second to none. I leave her knowing all the staff will
give her all the care she needs. The home is spotlessly clean, her clothes so well laundered. I cannot thank them enough.

My husband went into Millfield for palliative care. He was there for just under three weeks. During that time he was treated with immense kindness, care and compassion. His dignity was maintained at all times. The staff also looked after all family visitors, saying that they were most welcome at all
times. Offers of drinks and meals were always made.

My mother who has recently passed away, was a resident in Millfield (Hopwood Unit) for 2 years, during that time she received excellent care from all the staff working on that unit.

In the final days of my mother's life, the staff not only supported our mother but the family as well.

We found

the home extremely clean, welcoming and caring and would have no hesitation in recommending Millfield as a perfect place for elderly residential care.

Millfield and its staff gave my mum absolutely fantastic care. My mum passed away last week and the aftercare has been fabulous.
My mum had been in a previous home which was poorly run. If I could turn back the clock I would have chosen Millfield years ago to care for my mum.
The rooms are spacious
and bright.
Excellent food option.
Nurse always in duty.
Always plenty of staff around.
The manager is very approachable and friendly.
It's just an all round fantastic home.

I find the staff rather useless at times and can often be found sitting watching tv rather than doing the job they are paid for. If you want a cup of tea off them to forget it we had to buy mum her own tea making facilities in order for her to actually have a drink as the staff would often call my mum
a nuisance for asking. The food is what you would serve at a nursery rather than a care home! The staff would ask mum if she would like to participate in activities but would then 'forget' to get her from her room leaving her in there all day with nothing to do.

There has been a noticeable difference since the new manager took over. The staff seem to have a renewed pride in themselves, the paperwork's up to date and more people are smiling. The home has always been clean but the maintenance and cleanliness is particularly uplifting. There is absolutely no smell
of urine anywhere.

My mother is happy here and that says it all.
Happy with her carers and happy with her care. Happy with her room, warmth and security.
Because she is happy, so am I. When taking into account that I used to worry about her living as I do on the continent.
The staff constantly keep me informed.

The person I care for and visit regularly has been happy and comfortable at Millfield Care Home. The staff have been excellent in their treatment of her and her personal care has been very good. One thing I would ask for is that she be given a drink more frequently as she cannot help herself.

I find the Millfield Home extremely good in some aspects and not very good in others.
The laundry is done every day which is good and hygienic but then delivered to the residents room and instead of being hung up in the wardrobe jumpers etc are shoved in a drawer and totally creased up.
I would
be happier if each resident had a nominated carer who was familiar with all aspects of mums care.

Mum seems really settled at Millfield Care Home. My/her one big issue is the quality
and variation of the food when you spend so much time in a care home.
Food plays a massive part in the quality of life and should be something to look forward to each day (especially paying nearly £40k year)

PS
a really good effort by the new management in all areas (except food) especial the memory lane features, well done.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.007)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.007) out of 10 for Millfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.772 for Millfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 92 Ratings = 4.772

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.235 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Millfield Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 92 registered maximum number of service users is 18.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 18.4 = 0.435

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Managers

I started my nursing training in 1986 and have worked in the care sector ever since, becoming the manager at Millfield in 2018.

I always wanted to do something medical and to teach, and I am extremely lucky to have had a career in which I have been able to fulfil both of my ambitions. I have been a nurse in both the NHS and the private sectors and have lectured in the adult education sector.

My "personal" motto is: “Treat others how you wish to be treated yourself”. It is of the utmost importance that our residents are always treated with respect and dignity, and that they enjoy an enriching and fulfilling experience at Millfield.

I am married with two grown-up children and love to read, cycle and walk my dog. I am also a trustee of a local charity that runs six nurseries.
