Situated in a peaceful area of Eccles, near Salford, Barton Brook is a friendly, 120 bed care home that offers residential and nursing care for older people and people living with dementia.

The newly refurbished Monton Household will be opening on Monday 13th February and welcoming residents with dementia nursing needs.

Barton Brook has a number of smaller, welcoming households, each has a number of sitting rooms, dining areas and quieter areas for residents to relax, dine, exercise, socialise and be creative.

The wonderful landscaped garden and patio is the perfect place to spend time with friends and family, and is happily looked after by some of the home's Residents.

All the bedrooms are bright, comfortable and easily accessible by wheelchair.

I couldn't wish for a better care home for my wife than Moss House at Barton Brook. The management and staff are brilliant with the residents. The home is always kept very clean, I know my wife is being well looked after and that helps me very much. I don't think I could find a better care home for
my wife to stay in.

I saw Mum today for the first time in 12 months. The home has taken great care of Mum during the pandemic and the whole family have been pleased over the precautions they have taken. We can't thank them enough.

My mum has been a resident of Moss House for 4 years. The care she receives from all the team is excellent. My mum is happy and healthy. They have done a fantastic job of keeping everyone safe throughout the COVID pandemic, and for that, I thank them all.

This is my first visit to the care home due to Covid lockdown indoor. Have had an outside visit with my sister to visit our Mum and was really pleased to see Mum. All the staff when telephoning to ask about our mum or to speak to Mum have been really helpful. The feedback from staff has been brilliant.
The manager from Moss House has always kept us up to date about Mum's medication, how Mum is in herself and what things she needs. We can't thank them all enough for looking after our mum.

My mum has been a resident for five months. Each time I have visited the home I have found all staff to be most helpful and friendly. Mum has enjoyed her time here and she can't speak highly enough of staff. She loves being here and really enjoys the company which she didn't have at home.

I think under the circumstances my mum has been well cared for but more importantly kept safe through the pandemic. The manager has done an outstanding job, she has gone above and beyond to keep COVID out of the unit. My mum always looks presentable when I visit her at the window and happy. As long

Because of Covid19 restrictions, I am unable to answer some of the questions. My husband was very reluctant to go into care for respite but ended up loving it. I phone them every day to check up on him, and the staff and manager I spoke to were always very pleasant. My husband's mental health nurse
went to visit him several times and told me he was loving being kept busy and "helping staff" and joining in dancing and singing. Can't thank Moss House enough.

My father-in-law has been in Moss House for the past 4 years he has dementia, he is happy and well cared for. Unfortunately because of the pandemic, we have been unable to visit, but a phone call every week to Moss House enables us to know he is well. Any problems and they phone us immediately. The
staff are brilliant with him and the manager of Moss House is understanding, we know she cares for all the residents, their welfare and well being is her main concern at all times. At Christmas, we received a special tree bauble she had made with a photo of dad in it! What a wonderful present for us to keep.

My mother-in-law is treated well. But I think she needs more regular baths, she smells, hair greasy and fingernails always dirty. The home never smells nice and could do with a coat of paint.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to make improvements where required. The House Manager explained to you your mother-in-law’s nails are kept short by the staff team. The Home Manager visited your mother-in-law on 17 November 2020 and confirmed her nails were lovely and clean. Her hair has grown to shoulder length, it is clean and was tied neatly halfway back in a ponytail. The Home Manager also confirmed your mother-in-law is assisted to bathe two to three times weekly; this is documented in her daily Personal Care Records and your husband is kept fully informed regarding her plan of care. The Home Manager carries out daily walkarounds of the building and confirmed the care home does not smell. Since your last visit, pre-Covid-19 lockdown, the walls had been repainted although it has been identified some walls in the dining area require re-painting due to chairs rubbing against the walls. These areas will be addressed as part of the care home’s ongoing maintenance plan. Once again, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention; we aim to put the wellbeing and safety of our residents at the heart of everything we do.

Since lockdown, Mum's hair has not been cut. I know staff are not allowed but as hair salons are now open and there is a hairdresser on site, I think checking her temperature before visits and giving residents a dry cut would help.

During lockdown, in accordance with Government guidelines, hairdressing was initially deemed as non-essential visiting. However, with robust hairdressing risk assessments in place, the recent changes in Government guidelines are now allowing hairdressing visits. The hairdresser is already booked to visit the care home from 23 November 2020; this was planned in advance with the Home Manager. The hairdresser must follow the Responsible Visitors Code and the Visitors Agreement, which will be completed prior to visiting the home. The House Manager will ensure your Mother is seen by the hairdresser on the day of the planned visit and will keep you fully informed when the visit takes place. Once again, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention; the wellbeing and safety of our residents remain our priority at all times.

Initially, after visiting other care homes we realised that there were no smells in Moss House an indication of overall cleanliness. The residents were not just fixed in a seat for the day but have freedom of movement in pleasant surroundings, even in the garden in suitable weather all in perfect safety.
Every opportunity is taken to stimulate the residents with games, painting etc and special times like Christmas and Birthdays are celebrated. A compassionate staff in these difficult times of Covid-19 have done all in their power to create a homely family atmosphere.

Clare Margrave is the Manager of Barton Brook. Clare has a wealth of experience in the management of Care homes and the care sector. Her main interest and experience are in managing successful care homes housing elderly and frail Residents, some of whom have mental health issues.


Clare is very experienced in the management of care homes and is committed to providing a high–quality service.


She is ultimately responsible for the effective and professional running of the care home but will allocate time to discuss any aspect of our Resident's care or any problems they may be experiencing. Clare is keen to work closely and in partnership with our Residents, their relatives and significant others to benefit the Residents in her care.
