My mum spent her last two weeks of life in Bowerfield.
My stepfather and I viewed the home having been referred by the hospital. Both mum and he were interested to view; as they had good memories of visiting a friend here a few years ago.
From the moment we arrived, on an unannounced visit, we were
treated warmly and enthusiastically. We were also not disappointed with the care that my mother received in her cosy bedroom facility, which was so much more homely than the hospital environment. The staff; to a man and a lady, we're all so nice and friendly, and I have nothing but respect for the jobs that they do.
The food certainly looked nice, and I was treated to fish and chips on Friday there, which was certainly very tasty.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this place, and in fact, have joked since that I would like to be booked in when necessary!

Management continue to provide outstanding support in our discussions with Continuing Health Care and Social Services to ensure we get the most appropriate and effective care for our mother. They are making a complex and difficult process understandable for our family and we are grateful for the wider
care being provided by all the staff at all levels at Bowerfield Court.

My daughter was cared for very well by all the care team during her stay. Dignity in care was respected.

My daughter also tells me the food was delicious. Rooms were clean and tidy.

From the moment I arrived at Bowerfield Court, the staff have been very friendly, helpful and caring. Nothing is too much trouble and they often pop into my room to see if I am alright or need anything.
One night I had a worrisome incident, so the nurse rang my GP and arranged for me to see him in
the home the next day. This was excellent care and reassuring for me. There is a pleasant, relaxed air about the home, which feels more like a small residential home or hotel, but with the addition and added benefit of nursing care on site.

When my wife first came to the home she was greeted by a very caring staff. All the carers have treated my wife as part of the family which puts my mind at rest. When I leave her in their care day and night. Also, all nursing staff are caring and also treat her as part of the family, and all the staff
talk to her when they are carrying out their duties.

After a slightly rocky start, (my mother was not at all sure she wanted to be in a home), Mum has now settled down and made friends among both the other residents and the staff. Her health is also much better, as she is checked by a nurse every day and the doctors visit weekly. She says the staff are
'lovely' and they are always cheerful and helpful. They encourage her to do as much as possible herself and wait patiently as long as necessary while she does so. Her room is comfortable and they encourage us to personalize it with her own curtains and pictures and bits of furniture.

My mum was taken into Bowerfield for end of life care after being in hospital where she was really poorly and uncomfortable.
From the first minute she arrived to the time of us going and clearing her things, it was absolutely amazing.
The place is beautiful, clean, modern and my mum's room had everything
in it. It was decorated to the highest standard.
The staff, each and every one of them, were unbelievable, so much care and kindness to Mum and to me. They made a terribly upsetting time much easier. Highly recommended.

A very well run and caring service. The food provided could be of a higher quality with a more varied menu.

Teething problems initially which were resolved with good communication and staff. Staff are supportive of my needs and my choices/decisions. Home is generally clean, however, I do have to request my room is cleaned as not cleaned otherwise.
Activities in the home have improved since I have moved here.
Food is good and tea trolley is regular. Established a good rapport with the majority of staff and the number of agency staff has reduced - this is important for me as it affected my care.
I would come back for respite when I move home.

I have found the staff at Bowerfield to be responsive and respectful of my brother's needs, both physically and mentally. There is always a pleasant atmosphere and it feels like a home from home. The management communicate well with the residents and family.

My wife has been a resident at Bowerfield for the past eight years. So you may as well say a huge part of hers, mine and our 3 children's lives. All I have got for, all grades of staff at Bowerfield is pure respect at the way my wife has been looked after by these dedicated people.
I have found out
over this last eight years what devotion and commitment the team at Bowerfield have. I feel my wife's needs, be it medical, social or physical, they have been met and dealt with by this dedicated team - our extended family.

My daughter has been at the home for over six years. She is 32 years of age and has locked-in-syndrome. The staff and nurses under the leadership of the deputy manager and head nurse have been brilliant. Our main concern is on the weekends when staff are thin on the ground and have to rely on inexperienced
bank staff.

When my Father-in-law was admitted to Bowerfield Court, he was recovering from the aftermath of pneumonia. He was very frail and had lost a serious amount of weight so a period of convalescence was essential. I was immediately very impressed with the level of care the staff at Bowerfield Court afforded
my Father-in-law. He gained weight very quickly and has continued to thrive. He is very confused as he is in the advanced stages of dementia, however, he seems very happy and settled as he is treated with the utmost respect and care. I have found all the staff to be compassionate, caring and professional.

My wife, was accepted for respite care to Bowerfield Court, High Lane, Stockport, Cheshire on 10/3/16 and returned home on the 14/3/16, following an assessment at the home a few days previously. At this visit the manager took details of her medical condition, and medication.
On return home I and her
carers found my wife to be dehydrated and it would appear that she has not been encouraged/helped to drink, despite advice on this matter having been given.
On Sunday the 13th of March I visited her at 4.45pm, and 3 of her medication tablets - which showed to be taken in AM, were on her bedside table. I consider this unsatisfactory. Nursing care sparse.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.470)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.470) out of 10 for Bowerfield Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.670 for Bowerfield Court is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.67

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bowerfield Court is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
