I think carers could devote more time to one-to-one interaction with residents but overall, day staff are warm and friendly. Cannot comment on night staff.

My review of staff only refers to day staff. I have no experience with night staff but I have the uneasy feeling that they need supervision. I may be wrong but I'm going to bring it up at the next meeting on 13th August 2024. Day care is improving since new manager took over. As stated, I have no experience
with night staff.

There has been a significant turnover of staff and management over the last few years, raising slight concerns over continuity and point of contact.
However, regarding any problems/issues Mother has experienced these were discussed with me and dealt with accordingly. Staff are always patient, kind
and attentive.

Had a wonderful time with her tonight, so nice to be able to spend quality time with her.
The staff were amazing and very attentive, whilst serving all their "customers". The food was nice, and we left feeling very full and satisfied.

My wife went into Bowerfield during the Covid lockdown, which was a bit of a lottery, but glad to say it turned out fine.
She is well looked after and is always happy and smiling.
Could not ask for more.
The manager and her staff are always very helpful.

Staff are kind and caring, always go the extra mile and make an effort to really get to know each resident and meet their individual needs.
Please could we have the sofa back in the lounge - it's hard to hug across two armchairs but easy sitting on a sofa!

Our father was a resident for two years, over which time several managers came and went. Initially, care and support were good, but with the change in management came a decline in care.
We want to be very clear that the carers were excellent regardless of recent poor management and leadership.
Continuously
short-staffed and heavily reliant on agency.
We felt our father was simply kept in a safe place with a roof above his head, and fed and watered.
In recent times, no effort to support him with personal care, and reliance on chemical restraint.
Sadly registered staff and managers are insistent on disregarding Powers of Attorney and DoLS.
No effort to engage with residents with activities they are interested in, and something as simple as providing our father with a daily paper (delivered) was an ongoing challenge.
We have now moved our father and he has settled into his new home very well.
Concerns raised via complaint process. Read between the lines. Consider with extreme caution.

So happy with the care my mum is receiving. As a resident of over four years, she has had a number of caregivers and all have been exceptional. Throughout lockdown, I received regular updates and photos, which helped a lot. Can’t praise this home enough.

My husband has been in Bowerfield since February. 'Settling-in' issues were expected - carers need time to get to know him and his condition. Bowerfield, like so many care homes currently, is struggling to cope with staff recruitment and retention and this clearly has had, and is having, an effect on
care standards. An important aspect of a resident's dementia care is having a regular routine, but this is an impossibility if staffing levels are below those needed. Safety matters can so easily be overlooked because current staff are under such pressure all the time. I find the staff to be very caring and so anxious to please. They all seem to be so happy! The nursing team are lovely and when medical care is needed, waste no time in resolving matters. The manager is most approachable and having already raised some concerns, these were dealt with to a degree. When asked, my husband says he is comfortable and snug. That's a great reassurance and credit to those around him.

My mum has been at Bowerfield House for eight years. She has advanced dementia. Overall, the quality of care has been very good. The carers are kind and helpful and the accommodation is well laid out for people with dementia. Mum has a ground floor room (ensuite) with direct level access to the lounge
area. The staff understand dementia and so wandering and other issues that come with the illness are accepted. I know that when we looked at other homes for Mum they were sometimes intolerant of that kind of behaviour.

Throughout months of disruption from Covid, lockdowns, absences (illness, leave), recruitment issues and management disruption, the stars of this nursing home are the regular staff (nurses, carers, hostesses, caterers, maintenance, domestics) who are the ever-present front line making sure residents
are safe and cared for.
I would state that they are very hard working and very caring staff working with residents, that just get on with looking after the residents and relatives, no matter what happens around them. They should be recognised and respected for their efforts.
There is room for improvement in the management/administration side, I understand this is ongoing, but this is important and the urgent need to see the manager released from the admin overload and able to spend time in the home, mixing with residents and visitors and working with/supporting staff, will pay dividends.
Staff working with the residents is most important and this is where the home is lucky to have good caring workers.

I am extremely happy with the care my dad is receiving. Most importantly to me is dad is local. I am able to visit any time of the day as arranged by the manager who is wonderful as are all the staff I have had the pleasure to meet so far.

Although Bowerfield House has had its ups and downs over the years I would give it a high rating under its current management and the team of excellent care and support staff. Caring for residents suffering from dementia requires specialised skills and the Bowerfield team seem to meet that requirement
very well.
Residents needs are carefully assessed and the care is well matched to their individual requirements.
My wife has been a resident here for almost 7 yrs and I am more than happy with her present care although not having experienced any other care home it is somewhat difficult to make comparisons.

My husband came to Bowerfield House 2 days before the first lockdown in March 2020. He was moved from another care home because he needed the next level of care. the level of care for my husband has been wonderful, I cannot fault it. He has been loved as well as cared for well during these very fraught
times. The home is beginning to look lovely with the improvements that are being made.
