Very pleased that my dad is happy and well cared for. He settled in really easily to my surprise, so I have no doubt at all that he is in a very well cared for place. The staff are always so lovely and willing to help. Dad always looks well after I see him, which to me is very important.

My dad has been living at Hilltop Court nursing home for just over 12 months. His first visit to the home was extremely stressful as it was an emergency placement, I literally had to leave my dad there with complete strangers and pray he’d be ok. He’s been a very challenging resident for them as he
continually tries to look for ways to escape!! The staff have given love and support to my dad throughout.
They have not only been his carers but his family as they’ve been on lockdown almost all year. The management and staff keep me informed with everything that my dad is going through. During this time he was admitted to hospital with covid, the staff have helped build him back up again. They definitely care for the personal needs of the residents. They constantly put my mind back at ease. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

The care home provided my mother-in-law with excellent care during her time with them. She suffered from dementia and the staff from the Manager, Personal Care worker, medical staff and the activities lady were so caring with her. She was treated with dignity and the staff made sure she was always safe.
Everything is provided to make residents feel they are in a home from home situation. We were always informed if she had required any outside medical attention and you were welcome to discuss any issues with the manager or staff. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to be sure their relatives were looked after.

My husband was at Hilltop Court for 18 months and during that time he was treated with dignity, love and compassion. The staff are truly dedicated to looking after the residents and engage with them at every opportunity. The activities on offer were varied and enjoyable with all residents encouraged
to take part. The staff were very supportive of myself and I was made to feel welcome at all times. We are all so pleased that Hilltop Court was chosen to look after him in the final stages of his life. The staff really do go the extra mile.

I cannot praise all the staff at Hilltop Court enough. My sister has always been well looked after and given lots of attention throughout her stay there. She was recently very poorly and was put on the end of life pathway at the hospital. Hilltop Court took her back and thanks to their love and care
she is nearly back to her happy active self.

The staff treat all residents as individuals, using their names, taking time to explain what they are doing and why. Residents are well looked after, food is good quality.
My mother in law is diabetic, requiring daily insulin injections. The nursing and care staff take great care to make the medication
process as calm as possible as my mother in law has dementia, so each time is like the first time every day.

The care home has the use of a minibus and my dad along with some other residents was taken out to a garden centre for afternoon tea. My dad enjoyed himself looking around the garden centre and I met him there. It was well organised and a great time was had by all.

In the majority of situations care, food, hygiene and compassion are well evident from the staff at Hilltop Court. Given the nature of a Dementia specialist care home, the staff have certain challenges above and beyond the usual care home needs and service provided. We have learnt not to allow our dad
to have valuables and not to get too upset if clothing and other items 'go missing'. It seems with some dementia sufferers, collecting unattended objects and tidying up becomes a bit of an obsession!! That said, the staff try their best to reunite the real owner with 'collected' items.

Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Hilltop Court Care Home

Thank you very much for taking the time to review Hilltop Court. You have identified the essence of dementia care environment, the staff team are working so hard to ensure that all are happy, that involves looking for items which have been moved, looking for items which may have been moved and looking for items which were never there in the first place! The challenges of dementia care are endless, no two days are the same and the care team always cope with the 'unexpected' in a calm, kind and caring way. The Hilltop Court team are fantastic at what they do! Kind regards

My sister has been here for a year and is well cared for and settled.
I wish she could get some fresh air to buck her up.

Reply from Alison Foreman, Commercial Director at Hilltop Court Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review Hilltop Court. I am glad to hear that your sister is well cared for and settled. With regard to your comment about fresh air, I am not aware of your sister's circumstances, but the home does have a very accessible garden patio. In the better weather residents enjoy entertainment, hobbies and social time outside, in fact, Hilltop Court won 2 awards in the hotly contested 'Harbour in Bloom 2018' Competition and the converted 'Golden Trowel Award' was presented to the home for the best garden where residents had contributed to the design and maintenance. I do however understand that just recently the outside space has been unusable, due to the wind and rain. As always if you have any concerns regarding your sisters care, do not hesitate to speak to the home manager, who is always happy to speak to family members in order to take on board ideas and suggestions. Kind regards

I visited my mother on the 15th October and found her quite content at Hilltop Court. The home was clean, tidy and well staffed. The staff were welcoming and pleasant and offered me a hot drink. The front door was answered promptly. The attitude of all staff to patients/residents was excellent and they
tended to their needs well. The managers made a point of speaking to me and had a chat about my mother. All good!

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.476)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.476) out of 10 for Hilltop Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.676 for Hilltop Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.676

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hilltop Court Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.9

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
