Excellent evening tonight with my brother and other residents and their families enjoying an evening of Christmas music with mulled wine and mince pies. So lovely to be able to join in after work. So grateful to all the staff who give my brother exceptional care and companionship.

My daughter has been a resident for 17 years. Over the past few weeks I have noticed a big improvement in the overall atmosphere. All staff and management appear to be very happy in their work which reflects on the residents and visitors. I have always been pleased with the care my daughter has received
over the long time she has been a resident at Hilltop.

Hilltop Hall is a lovely home. The grounds are stunning, as is the building. My mum is in Hilltop Hall, the staff are amazing, you can always hear laughing and singing. There are activities in the home, Mum loves the knitting group. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I feel assured that my mum is
being very well cared for. The management is also amazing, if I have any concerns or queries they are dealt with very quickly and I am always kept updated. I am really pleased with Hilltop Hall.

I have been a resident since 2017. Overall I have been well looked after, and treated with respect and dignity. As an industry I consider provision to be overpriced. Taking advantage of those least able to shop around. In a shoal of sharks, Hilltop is not the worst.

My mother has been here for nearly 12 months. The first 6 months were a challenge with sub-standard rooms and caring issues. She is now being moved to a nice room. The carers are helpful, smiley and always willing to listen. There is still the issue that dementia patients who do not want to bathe are
not encouraged and are left unwashed. Hopefully, this can be implemented in their training.

Reply from Honor Keatley, Managing Director at Hilltop Hall Care Home

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have spoken to the acting Home Manager who said she was not working at Hilltop Hall prior to your mother being in a different room. She also confirmed that there is no one living with advanced dementia at the home. I hope both you and your mother will be happy with the standard of care, particularly under the new Home Manager.
It was lovely to read your positive comments about the care team.
I am visiting Hilltop Hall this week and will discuss your review in more detail with the team then.

Thank you to the new management who have turned a fairly unclean care home and disrespectful staff. Into a relaxed welcoming clean and well trained staff who know how to communicate with both the residents and their families.
I have been highly critical in the past about the bullying that I have witnessed
and was asked to give them six months to turn everything around. Well congratulations I have now had the best visit with my mum who is clean relaxed and very happy in this new environment. The staff are very hands on and supportive of the residents.
I've until retirement last year been in the care profession and know how hard it is.
Well done you took the criticism from me now take my respect for a job well done
Kind regards.

The general care home is excellent. The staff, without exception, are all concerned to do their best for everyone resident here. There are little 'pin picks' of occasional difficulties (where are there not?), eg: some food (I think) unsuitable for quiet elderly people/shortage some days of certain food
etc.

Although my mum is quite new to Hilltop Hall, I could tell from the very beginning that it was going to be a wonderful home for her.
The manager is very understanding, as is the administrator, who is perfect. She can't do enough for me or my mum, she's extremely friendly and helpful and she always
returns my calls and emails quickly, which is very rare these days.
From what I've seen so far, the staff are patient, attentive and caring, while the maintenance manager is another very thoughtful, helpful and responsive person.
He went to great lengths to install and set up a TV for my Mum in her room, including fixing a swivel wall mount for it.
My mum has been in several care homes over the past few years and, although she is hard to please, she is very happy at Hilltop Hall, where she is most likely to spend the rest of her days. She also loves the food and, coming from her, that's high praise indeed!
All in all, it's an excellent home.

I always receive a cheery welcome from the carers/staff and there is always a happy atmosphere. My sister's needs are met with dignity and respect and communication is consistent. Management have dealt with issues promptly and efficiently and feedback by telephone. Activities are varied and excellent
"Monday Matters" via email during lockdown were an invaluable source of communication which helped to ease anxieties of missed visits. The care and attention to detail of the sensory garden and newly built visiting hub reflect the meaning of "Home".

My 90-year-old mother was a resident in Hilltop since August 2020. Unfortunately, my dear mother passed away peacefully on the 15th January 2021. I would like to thank all the staff who looked after my mother, they did so with care, compassion and such gentleness. Thank you for looking after myself,
my brother and my sister whilst we were there. I can't thank all of them enough - the manager, nurses and carers. I certainly recommend Hilltop for your loved one, as I know they will be in the best hands possible. Thank you for making Mum's last few months comfortable. She made everyone laugh, even if she didn't mean to.

Dad was discharged from hospital following a car accident. He was pleased to be able to go to Hilltop Hall because he had known it from visiting friends there and he was well looked after from start to finish. The staff who cared for him were excellent; we couldn't have asked for more and any issues
which he raised were dealt with promptly and fairly by the management team at the home. My sister and I were very pleased with that he had a regular care team who got to know him, and us; that really helped. And the ability to personalise his room was really helpful too. Although we weren't able to visit him during his last days because of Government restrictions (the options which we were offered were appreciated but wouldn't really have worked for Dad if he'd even been able to be aware of our presence), the support and information that we received was very good and made a tough time as good as it could be. Thanks.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff on the second floor with all my heart.
Sadly my mum passed away there two days ago (Sunday). I cannot tell you how much we appreciated the loving care my mum got in the short time she was cared for there, the staff are simply magnificent and looked
after my mum’s many needs to the highest level possible. When I got the call on Sunday morning about my mum’s impending demise, the member of staff who dealt with us was so kind, helpful and generous of his valuable time and his advice in a time of high stress was beyond measure. We shall miss the staff and can rest assured that your home did more than they could possibly know to help my mum through a very difficult period.
Again, many thanks.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.912)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.912) out of 10 for Hilltop Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.564 for Hilltop Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (57 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.564

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.348 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hilltop Hall Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.648

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
