Parkhill is situated in a semi-rural location between Stalybridge Country Park and the Huddersfield narrow canal. Parkhill benefits from both beautiful country views and easy accessibility from Saddleworth, Greenfield, Delph, Uppermill, Ashton, Mossley, Stalybridge and Oldham.

Originally an impressive late Victorian private residence, Parkhill has been sympathetically extended and fully refurbished to a very high standard. The facilities available enable the home to promote independence, maintain dignity and maximise quality of life for all residents. Residents and their families have the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful garden, patio and pond area.

Parkhill is a dual registered home providing long and short-term care for residents with a wide range of needs. Carers provide 24-hour nursing care with an appointed named nurse and key worker, a varied menu and choice of home cooked meals and in house laundry service. In addition, they also provide a stimulating timetable of activities and events focused on nurturing their physical and spiritual well-being.

Parkhill continuously strives for excellence in care. All staff are qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 2 within their field of expertise.

Parkhill has always pushed the boundaries to be the best and staff continue to go the extra mile to deliver excellent care.

Before going into detail I must state that generally Parkhill Nursing Home
is a good care home. However, over the last year there have been concerning quality issues mainly by short-term (or agency) employees. This resulted in a large turnover of managers/staff which is unsettling to residents. The
2023 CQC report reflects this with a range of categories falling into 'Requires Improvement'.

That said there have been many positive changes in 2023, including investment in improving facilities (particularly safety) with communal areas refurbished and decorated. The food is generally, appealing nutritious and appetising with many years of a 5-star food hygiene rating. Some efforts have been made to vary the menu, but this is not always easy to implement.

Many of the experienced staff are an absolute credit to the establishment being cheerful, professional and caring despite a difficult few years.

Here's hoping Parkhill overcomes the issues and returns to excellent standards we all want in 2024.

My mum has been in Parkhill Nursing Home for about a year and recently I have been very impressed with the care the staff have shown her. The staff and managers always keep me informed of any changes and I'm impressed with the changes.

My uncle has been in the home for about 12 months, he seems really happy and settled. The staff seem very kind and considerate while remaining professional regarding my uncle's personal and medical requirements. Now we are able to visit inside, the home is clean and both well organised and run. I would
certainly recommend Parkhill home to anyone looking for a small home that strives to provide a comfortable safe environment.
Thank you for the peace of mind.

Lovely caring staff nothing too much trouble and treat the residents like family
The home could do with a lick of paint and modernising but good staff are more important than decoration
Food seems okay, would definitely recommend you have a look at this home.

The home is great, friendly and welcoming. There are daily activities to keep mum stimulated. The staff are always available to answer questions and are very friendly. They made a huge effort with all the residents on Christmas Day which was heartwarming to see.

Your kind comments are much appreciated by everyone at Parkhill. We are very aware of the concern and anxiety that many residents and families experience when considering Residential and Nursing Care. Whilst spending one's later years at home will always be the preferred choice for all of us it is a help to many families to know that, when required, care in a good home can be a positive and re-assuring experience for both residents and families. We hope that such experiences are remembered with happy memories and comfort for everyone.

Parkhill was my cousin's personal choice of nursing home based on her previous knowledge of local care facilities. I too knew of the high standards offered by Parkhill and I am delighted with the standard of care and attention carried out the by the management and staff. My cousin is very happy living
there.

Reply from Robert Delaney, Owner at Parkhill Nursing Home

Thank you. As always reviews and comments from residents and friends/relatives are very much appreciated. This is particularly so at times like this when all our lives are being so greatly affected by the effects of the Corona Virus. From the beginning, we were very conscious that the safety and well-being of our residents and staff were absolute priorities over all other matters. With the guidance and support of our Manager and her great team, we remain Covid-free and despite social distancing have managed to provide a happy and safe environment for our residents. Whilst visiting is somewhat restricted at the moment we look forward to the time when we can once welcome more visits from friends and relatives.

This is a well-managed nursing and care home with staff that puts its residents first. During lockdown, it has kept its residents safe from the virus while allowing some highly protected window visits as well as video calling facility. Choosing a care home is an emotional and difficult task. I visited
eight different ones before deciding that Parkhill was the best one.

Reply from Robert Delaney, Owner at Parkhill Nursing Home

Another very kind and much-appreciated review for which I thank you on behalf of all my staff. At Parkhill, we are very aware that both the choosing of a care home and the decision of so doing is an emotional and worrying event. Whilst rarely being a situation of choice I hope that many of the residents and families that we have cared for over the years can look back on that time with some comfort and reassurance from their time at Parkhill. The most important asset in any Home is undoubtedly the staff and I feel very fortunate to have some truly wonderful staff at Parkhill. Words of appreciation such as yours are greatly appreciated and a source of encouragement for my staff to continue the great work they do. Thank you on their behalf.

My friend has been a resident of Parkhill for over 8 years during that time he has been treated with the utmost respect and dignity. All the staff treat my friend as a member of a big family and share humorous moments with him he has been very happy at Parkhill Nursing Home.

Reply from Robert Delaney, Owner at Parkhill Nursing Home

Once again I can only express my appreciation for the very kind words expressed in this review. Eight years is a long time and I cannot find sufficient words to pay credit to my staff at Parkhill. As I have said on many occasions the key to a happy and caring home is, without doubt, the staff at every level who bring humour, compassion and kindness to everything they do for our residents. I know they will be delighted and inspired by these very kind words of appreciation. Thank you on behalf of all my super staff.

The first impressions of Parkhill were - small but homely and warm; which is true, but it's so much more! Residents are treated with respect and love and each individual's needs are catered for differently. The staff were extremely caring and sensitive in the settling in period and informed us of any
concerns and were very supportive and helpful.
The staff soon got to know the resident's little ways and preferences. Mum is very sociable and loves to chat to other residents and sing along and dance in her chair whenever there is any entertainment or old CD's are playing as they often are.
Residents have access to regular entertainment, hairdressers, manicure and massage treatments, as well as quizzes and gentle chair exercises if they wish to join in.
Overall, mum and all the family have been very impressed by the care here and would not hesitate to recommend Parkhill.

My mum has been a resident at Parkhill Nursing Home since March 2018.
The family were anxious to find the very best care for mum that would meet all her needs and after some quite extensive research we decided on Parkhill and we have not been disappointed.
The staff are professional, caring and
friendly and always treat mum with respect and dignity. Should there be any issues we are contacted promptly.
There are various planned activities during the week and mum particularly enjoys the guest artists who come along to the home on Fridays. She sings along to the 1940's music and remarkably that she remembers all the words! It's wonderful to see her face light up.
With help and support of the kind and dedicated staff at Parkhill, we feel confident that mum is in safe hands.

My responses to recent Reviews seem a little repetitious! However there is no other way to express our gratitude to the families and residents who have taken the time to so kindly share their views of Parkhill. All credit goes entirely to the wonderful staff with which Parkhill is blessed and my appreciation of them is beyond comment. They are the foundation of everything we do at Parkhill. Such staff are at the heart of all we do. Thank you.

My sister and I have experienced nothing but supportive and helpful care for our mother aged 95. She was admitted to Parkhill following a transfer from hospital care after breaking her leg. She took up residence at the end of October 2017. Our mother suffers from vascular dementia and total loss of
physical mobility.
The staff, all of them, treat us (me and my family) with care and respect and communicate well regarding her welfare.

My husband has been in Parkhill for a year now and he has been looked after by the staff excellently. They greet him with smiles, kind words, nothing is too much trouble for them. They are like family to him. He receives 24hr care so I know he is safe. There is always a nurse on site which reassures
me that he is looked after well. The food is good and varied and they will gladly deal with any dietary needs.
The home is nicely decorated, clean and warm.
I can now relax knowing that his needs are catered for so well. Thank you.

My brother-in-law has received first class care since he went to Parkhill Nursing Home.
He has had a few serious conditions whilst there and but for the quick and professional care, I don't think he would still be with us. His family and I are very grateful.

First experience of any home and I am very pleased with the whole package. The staff are kind and treat the residents with respect and friendliness, they also are good with the visitors. The food is good and they do a buffet for birthdays. The home is in lovely surroundings and has tables outside if
the weather is nice. Cannot praise this home enough, very impressed.

Reply from Robert Delaney, Proprietor at Parkhill Nursing Home

Thank you for your kind comments. Parkhill has cared for residents of Tameside for more than 25 years. Throughout that time, we have always believed that the quality of care within a Home is only as good as the staff who work in that home. We are fortunate to have had exceptional staff over all these years whose care, compassion and willingness to go that extra mile has ensured that Parkhill is a happy, warm and safe home for residents, families and staff.

Current Review Score: 7.0 (7.049)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.0 (7.049) out of 10 for Parkhill Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.917 for Parkhill Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (1 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 3.917

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.132 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parkhill Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.132

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
