Choosing a care home for my grandma was an extremely difficult task. Belong Wigan were so accommodating to allow us to visit and look around their care home any time of the day. We immediately felt this was the right place. Everywhere was spotless and smelt fresh and clean, the staff were always maintaining
all areas of Belong. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and very approachable.
My grandma felt settled immediately and adapted to this life easily as the staff made her feel like they were a family. There was continuity for the residence with the staff so individual needs, help and comforts could all be met to the highest standards. Friends and relatives are welcome anytime to continue that welcoming feeling. The care received was outstanding, the staff always on hand be it medical needs or just some company. At all times staff were professional and safety and security was outstanding. They went far beyond our expectations and for that, we can’t thank Belong enough.

From January 2018 to the end of October 2018, Mum has lived in five care homes, three of which are part of the Belong group. Mum has suffered a broken hip, pneumonia, had nine weeks in hospital and lost seven kilos. Mum has mixed dementia, challenging behaviour and is very confused especially with all
the moves. I have been really worried and have desperately tried to find the right care home where Mums needs could be met. Finally, I have found the perfect place, Belong Wigan.
The staff are a cohesive, extremely well trained, well led, enthusiastic, happy and caring team. They are simply amazing. It's a pleasure to visit Mum and see her living with purpose, helping in the kitchen, gardening, dancing, singing and happy. Since Mum's move to Belong Wigan six weeks ago. she has gained all the lost weight. She is genuinely cared for, treated with respect and dignity.
A huge thank you to the outstanding home manager, admiral nurses and all the staff you are a real credit to the Belong organisation.

Despite Dad only being in Belong and the Cedar household for a couple of months, we were overwhelmed by the care, support and attentiveness provided by the staff in these fantastic facilities. Dad had Alzheimer's disease and dementia but from the first day after his transfer from hospital, the staff
made a positive impact on his life (and ours). We easily personalised his room to maintain an element of familiarity for him. He was so well looked after and we were made extremely welcome with many cups of tea and coffee. As Dad's time drew to a close, we were supported superbly well and were able to stay by his side, holding his hand.
The manager has every reason to be proud of her team of carers in Cedar house. It’s very apparent that they clearly love what they do; their commitment to providing the residents with the very best care and a loving, family-style environment played a large part in our decision as a family to place Dad in their care.

Dad was in Cedar House which was excellent. All the staff were genuinely very caring and nothing was too much trouble. The whole ethos of Belong is superb and the atmosphere in the whole village is relaxed and friendly.

I would like to thank you and your staff for all the consideration and duty of care that everyone has shown to Mum during her two and half years that she spent on Acacia.
I would like to commend the professionalism that your staff have shown to us all as a family as well as Mum. It’s obvious that the
staff are trained to a very high standard, but most of all your selection process is excellent because each member of staff is compassionate, caring and not there to just do a job, the warmth of the households is just like a true family.
It was touching that everyone came to visit her during her final days including those on reception. Thank you especially for making Mum's last few days so much easier for us as a family - the endless cups of tea, coffee and meals were amazing - and the support afforded to us all was much appreciated.
I take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you that was involved in mother's care. It was all the little extra touches that meant so much.

My husband has been here for nearly five years. In that time, we have both got to know the staff well and regard them all as our friends.
Occasionally, as I have a sharp eye, and want only the best for my husband, I note small slip-ups in care - awkward position in bed, some aspects of grooming. BUT
nothing dramatic and all usually remedied when asked for.

I stay here so my daughter and her husband can have a holiday. I also come on a Thursday for the day.


I enjoy staying and really like the staff.


I have just had a not very nice experience with one of the night staff who wasn't very nice to me during the night.

My Mother has been at Belong for over a year now. The staff at Belong were very supportive and caring as mum moved into residential care from independent living. Not only have they provided excellent care for mum but they have also supported my sister and me.

My mum is currently a resident in Willow House and has been since June 2017.


I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in saving Mum's life. At the end of September whilst she was in Willow House my mum, unfortunately, suffered a heart attack. The staff on duty were amazing,

they quickly performed CPR and got Mum breathing again before the paramedics arrived. If it wasn't for their quick actions my mum wouldn't be with us today. I cannot thank them enough on behalf of all her family.


I would also like to thank every member of staff at Belong, everyone has made us feel so welcome and it's comforting to know as a family Mum is being well cared for.


I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Belong.

My Dad took ill in June 2016 with Pulmonary Fibrosis.


On discharge from another visit to the hospital, he decided that a more supportive and comforting environment than care at home would be appropriate.


As my Dad was too unwell to visit potential care environments I visited 14 on his behalf

to ‘vet’ them. I can hand on heart say that the only environment I was remotely comfortable in my Dad being ‘re-homed’ was at Belong.


The management team made the process smooth and welcoming which offered further comfort.


The care received has been very positive with standout individuals who became part of an extended family caring for my dad.


As a parent myself, it was a positive environment in which to bring his grandchildren to visit and although not Home, it was a best-fit substitute.


Sadly my Dad passed away this month and I am grateful for the respects that I have received from the team.

My dad was a resident at Belong Village, Wigan for the few weeks before his death in October 2017. He had advanced Alzheimer's Disease and poor mobility.


He was extremely settled and happy throughout his time at Belong. The family could not have asked for or expected a higher, more personal standard

of care for him.


The atmosphere in the house was always calm and friendly. Staff were lovely with him, quickly getting to know him as a person, and treating him with dignity, respect and good humour. They ensured that his last weeks were comfortable and happy.


I would recommend Belong Village, Wigan in the very highest terms - I cannot think of a single area that I would suggest improving.

My mother lived in Cedar House, at Belong Village Wigan for three years finally passing away on the 1.8.2017.
She suffered from mixed dementia and always told us not to worry about her because she was well looked after. We visited her frequently so I feel certain that I would have seen any real problems,
had there been any. Staff tried to find things to keep her occupied at all times and were always attentive to her needs.

My auntie was a resident in Beech House Wigan and from the day she resided at the home her condition improved. The care and attention provided by staff was second to none and we have nothing but praise for every aspect of Belong. Unfortunately, my auntie had a fall and her condition deteriorated but
despite this and as her needs grew, the care also afforded grew. In the final days of her life your staff excelled themselves and my auntie died with dignity and the staff became her friends.

My mum moved from a residential home to Belong Wigan, in March. The manager went above and beyond to help me get mum into Belong Wigan. Without her, my mum's last few months would not have been so happy. My mum was treated with respect and dignity. She got to enjoy a few outings which she loved. The
carers are kind and very patient and work tirelessly to bring happiness into the lives of those living there. Thank you for looking after my mum in her last few months.

My mother moved to Beech House at Belong in December 2016. Previously she had spent 9 weeks in hospital as most other care homes could not accommodate her due to her 'challenging behaviour'.
The carers, nursing staff and management showed immense care, empathy and, most importantly, respect to her.
The
organisation of the home into 'households' of 11 residents enhances this level of care and makes one wonder why other care homes don't adopt this system.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough and the care they gave to her and to us in her final days shows what wonderful people they are.

My mum was in Belong on continuing health care from December 2016 until her death in May 2017. The care staff in Beech House were absolutely amazing and became like friends to us - they cared for us as well as Mum, especially in her final days. Praise must also go to the nurses who were so kind and
caring. They took time to sit with us and explain things. The management team are caring and efficient as well. They made things easy for us.

Gill has led the team at Belong Wigan as General Manager since the village opened in 2009. She is highly experienced and has worked in the care profession for over 25 years, starting her career as a care assistant in a dementia unit. She progressed to the role of Care Supervisor and then to Care Manager in 2000, working at several homes within the organisation. Gill was promoted to the post of Home Manager in 2003 and moved to Sherwood House in 2006, where she moved the learning and development strategy forward to prepare the team of staff for the move to the Belong setting and working culture. She holds the Registered Managers Award, along with a number of other management and training qualifications.


Lana

Lana Welsh

Job Title: Support Manager

Qualifications: Registered Nurse, Level 5 in Leadership and Management


Experience: Lana moved from Edinburgh in 2002 to complete a nursing degree at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and qualified in 2005. She worked as a Registered Nurse for eleven years, as a Specialist Nurse in women’s health and oncology.


Lana's goal was to move away from acute care into a social care setting and in 2016 she began her career at Belong Wigan, as a Registered Nurse. She went on to be nominated for the Good Nurse Award at the 2017 Great British Care Awards, before progressing to the role of Lead Nurse in 2018 and in April 2019 she was appointed to the role of Support Manager. Lana has since completed a Level 5 in Leadership and Management and remains a Registered Nurse.


Tanya

Tanya Highton

Job Title: Front of House Manager

Joined: 2012

Tanya joined Belong in 2012 as a temporary receptionist and developed her role whilst working toward Health and Social Care qualifications 2 and 3, progressing to the role of Senior Support Worker and later to the role of Experience Coordinator, with responsibility for the development and implementation of a programme of activities for customers living in the village and the wider local community. In 2021, due to the retirement of the village’s long-serving front-of-house manager, Tanya made the decision to move back to the front-of-house team to lead the front-of-house, administration and caretaking teams.


Charlene

Charlene Frodsham

Job Title: Experience Coordinator

Local community champion, Charlene Frodsham, from Wigan, joined the team at Belong Wigan in early 2021, taking up the post of experience coordinator and working alongside residents and colleagues to provide a creative programme of meaningful occupation via events, one-to-one and group activities.


Initially from a customer service background, Charlene's enthusiasm and cheerful nature prompted her to take on the role of community champion for the supermarket brand Asda. It was here that her talent shone as she organised community challenges and fundraising activities for local groups and charities, including those that provide dementia care and support for adults with learning disabilities. When donating board games to Belong, she was 'blown away' by their set-up, which far exceeded her expectations of a typical care provider. Upon learning about the vacancy of experience coordinator, Charlene was excited to apply, feeling this was an opportunity that she couldn't let pass by.


Taking a leading role in both these programmes, Charlene will be working closely with the residents and providing activities to inspire and delight them.


Sophie

Sophie Walls

Job Title: Belong at Home Area Manager

Qualifications: Level 5 in Leadership Management.


Sophie has worked for the organisation for over 11 years, starting her career as a support worker in the village households. Two years later, Sophie was appointed to the role of senior support worker and quickly progressed to the role of lead senior support worker, before joining Belong's home care team.


Sophie has completed a level 5 in leadership Management and in 2013 Sophie won the Excellence in Resident Handling Award at the Regional Care Awards and went on to the National Care Awards and won the National award. Particular outstanding features included her ability to empathise with residents in their own care planning for moving.
