I came to visit my grandfather at the home a few weeks back, I thought it was going to be difficult as I always thought being put in a home is a sort of depressing thing, however, I was over the moon after seeing how happy he seemed. I'm not sure what they put in the water there but there's a sort of
warmish feeling and I liked it. I was happy to see him actually engaging with other people as he's too used to being a recluse.

My father had a three-month stay at Mahogany Care home, during his stay he was treated with respect by all the staff and the home manager until his passing in early December. Our family can't thank the home and its staff enough for caring for him.

My mum has received excellent nursing care at Mahogany for the last three years and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They go out of their way to communicate and engage with her and often have to anticipate her needs. They keep her clean, calm and comfortable. I would not have my mum cared
for anywhere else.

Visited with my friend when she visited her mother. Was greeted with a welcoming smiling face who turned out to be the home manager. It was like walking into a 5 star hotel. The atmosphere was so different to what I was expecting. I have visited other care homes in the past but they were nothing like
this. So lovely and the fresh smell was everywhere. I saw a couple of rooms and they were decorated very tastefully. All the residents who I saw appeared to be so happy and smiling. All the staff were wearing face coverings and never stopped working for the whole time I was there. My friend's mother said the home has gone from strength to strength since the new manager took over. She said the food and activities were great fun but nothing was planned at the time I was there.
I must say that the staff was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble to help the residents. If this is what it's like in care homes I think I would book my room now!

When my wife, suffering from dementia, was received at Mahogany from hospital, she was in a very poor condition and I worried about her immediate future. The staff patiently provided bed care for her until she strengthened and was able to use a specialist wheel-able chair and hence get a varied perspective
around the home. This offers much needed stimulation, albeit without drawing much visible enthusiasm. Whilst there is no cure for the disease she is suffering, the care offered by Mahogany assures that she is kept safe, with dignity and respect. The staff are supportive, polite and professional in their work and are always prepared to give time and reassurance to myself and other visitors, which gives confidence that good quality care is being provided.

My friend of many years has recently passed away at Mahogany, she was so well cared for by the staff there, she had her own private room, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were frequently coming in checking on her.
I can not fault one member of staff, the nurses there are absolutely
fantastic a young blonde nurse and a male nurse, are the ones I met and they were so compassionate, keeping family updated all the time, they have such a difficult job but they always had a smile on their face,
They ensured my friend was laid comfortable and pain-free, I know from the care and compassion they showed my friend, this put myself and her family at great ease.
The home is beautiful inside and spotlessly clean, even the cleaners would come in and chat, we would always be offered refreshments and told anything we wanted just ask.
This home is fantastic, and I would not hesitate to live here should I ever need to be cared for.

Look beyond the building that is only satisfactory by modern standards.
The care is excellent, the staff know the clients. The atmosphere is positive and needs are fully met. Food is individualised as id the care given.
From my viewpoint, the residents are respected for who they are and supported
on that life journey.

The food is nice here, there's a variety of meals. My room is clean and tidy and cleaned daily, the care staff are friendly and my clothes are always clean. My privacy is always respected. I like the home overall.

My mum moved into Mahogany in June 2021 with mobility issues and dementia. Overall, all of the staff at Mahogany were caring and friendly. We visited Mum daily which was never a problem. Mum was comfortable in her room and had everything she needed. There were some issues along the way but I believe
a number of these were down to a lack of staff. Sadly, I think this would be the case in any home as we’ve all heard about the huge problems of getting/keeping staff in the care environment. One big tip for anyone moving in, label everything before admittance! Laundry in particular has a tendency to go astray otherwise. Mum eventually moved on to nursing care which was good. We built a rapport with most of the staff who on the whole were helpful and caring. Mum sadly passed away in October, the staff were so good to us all, allowing us 24 hour access in the couple of days leading up to this. They looked after the family as well as Mum, keeping us supplied with drinks and snacks.

From day one my father-in-law felt safe. Staff were doing all they could to keep residents safe from Covid. My father-in-law stayed negative while he was there. He was so settled and we knew he would be ok. He got very unwell quite quickly and we were allowed to be with him for his final couple of
days. They always made sure he kept his dignity and took great care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mahogany and the management and staff really do care about your loved one. Thank you all for taking care of him. You are all angels.

My mum was placed at Mahogany Care Home in March 2020, following discharge from hospital. I am so grateful that she is now in a safe place. I understand my mum can present as challenging at times due to her dementia but in my opinion, my mum has only ever been treated with the care and respect that
I think she deserves. She is now clean, dietary needs met and stimulated. The staff seem to be caring and nurturing.
When mum first arrived at Mahogany the staff would facilitate contact via the telephone, due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Slowly as months passed the contact has declined. I am reluctant to ring for updates as I fear I will upset my mum. I have had two window visits which left me feeling incredibly guilty as my mum doesn't remember why she can't leave. My mum has always had a very close relationship with her family. We have always spent a great deal of time together. Unfortunately, we now feel cut off. I understand this is a difficult time for everyone.

The managers and the team have done an incredible job of turning this home around in the last couple of years. Our loved one is, unfortunately, bedridden now, so can’t join in with the many activities and pampering sessions that are provided in the lounge (which I know she would have loved a few years
ago) but is cared for respectfully and with love from all the carers at Mahoghany! Thank you!

My mother passed away Friday 9/10/20. The staff at Mahogany have been exceptional. My mother had special needs and Mahogany catered for her and made us feel safe in their care. Cannot recommend them enough for all they have done.

My mum moved into Mahogany Care Home after she was discharged from hospital following a fall. This happened during the national Covid-19 lockdown. I cannot compliment the manager and her staff team highly enough. They have worked tirelessly to ensure that the well being of the residents is maintained.
They have been professional throughout and have communicated openly and freely with our family. I would not hesitate to recommend the care home. All aspects of the care they provide are well-considered and planned, from activities to food and the safety of residents.

Mum has been at Mahogany since October 2018. Mum settled down after a while and although she didn't remember names she knew the girls and some of the residents. She enjoys a good laugh and has a cheeky sense of humour. She likes a dance and singsong when they have bands in the lounge. We thought we
were going to lose her in March but she pulled through with the help of the girls who did and always do a brilliant job. We are very happy and know she's safe and well cared for. Love to see her on FaceTime and FaceBook. The girls have helped so much with helping to keep in contact with Mum, using their own phones sometimes. I know a lot of the residents and always try and have a chat with them and I always have a natter with the girls. Keep up the good work.

My 90-year-old grandma came into Mahogany on respite, then lockdown occurred! She became very poorly for 3-weeks, but due to the exceptional care, love and patience by all the staff, she is through the other side!
We have enjoyed the video links, WhatsApp chats and chatting through the conservatory
window.
We have watched her smiling face virtually cycling, singing, dancing, playing bingo!

My mum has been in the care home for over a year now and she is very happy and she enjoys eating all her meals in the dining room with her friends. She says every day how lovely the food is and every day she comments on how great the staff are to her. She can also have her own quiet moments to herself
whenever she wants. We as her family are very, very happy that our mum's happy and settled and she enjoys her time in the lounge with all the staff.

Job Title: Registered Manager

Jessy Gaskell is the registered manager for Mahogany Nursing Home in Wigan. She has extensive experience in the sector and worked in the military as a nurse. From an early age, Jessy has always wanted to help and support others which is why she joined the military, progressing through the ranks to become a Captain, a rank that she still retains. Her leadership skills as well as her approachable and friendly personality make her the right fit for any leadership role.


During her time as the manager, she has made significant improvements within the home and raised standards of care.
