My dad has been in Shawcross for nearly three months. He has settled in well. The home is clean and decorated well. Staff are approachable and address any concerns that we have swiftly.

I came to visit a dear friend of mine on the Dementia residential side of the home, I have never visited a care home before and I could not believe my eyes, the place was immaculate and so bright (totally the opposite to what I expected due to a complete misconception of care homes) I overheard the
staff having fun and singing with the residents. My friend is so happy and looking the best I have seen him in over 5 years! The female manager helped me feel at ease offering me a cup of tea and showing me to my friend's room. The care home and the staff in the 45 minute visit I had have totally changed my perception of the care system in to believing that not all care homes are like what you see on the news, on the way out I met up with the male manager who again greeted me with a smile and asked how I was.

The care home is very welcoming, warm and friendly. The staff are caring and treat the residents with respect. The management is very good and senior members of staff listen and react to any concerns raised. My mother is very happy and settled. Her clothes are always clean and kept tidy in drawers and
wardrobes. I am happy that we found this care home and have peace of mind that my mother is well looked after.

My dad was a resident in Shawcross for a very short while, during his time he was well cared for, the staff were amazing and the outside hospice care was brilliant. My dad sadly died in the home and they made him very comfortable in his final hours.

My father was here for respite care for a few weeks.
The staff were kind and caring and made dad very welcome.
The decor is bright and airy throughout the property which makes a significant difference to any home.
Although dad has a poor appetite the staff were very patient and made all attempts
to find him something that he fancied.
All in all, it was a good experience for both dad and us at a very trying time.

Mum has been at Shawcross for over 12 months now and has been cared for excellently; looking after her every need.


The staff are very good in everything they do and it's much appreciated. It enables us to do our day jobs and not worry about Mum.

My wife loves being at Shawcross Care Home. There has been a huge improvement since she came to Shawcross Care Home. She is walking better and more alert. I could not have thought of a better place other than home. Shawcross Care Home is a home from home.

Such a great care home. The staff on EMI cared for my mother right until the end. We couldn't have asked for a more dignified and comfortable death for Mum. Her time spent at Shawcross Care Home we know were some of her happiest times.

The care and support offered at Shawcross is very professional, loving, caring and reassuring for the residents' family. The unit manager and her team are truly dedicated to their work and love of the residents.


My mother has received gold star service at Shawcross and she is very happy in her environment.

The unit manager is excellent and the activities manager is great. Well done Shawcross for your excellent delivery of service.

Showers should be provided in the nursing home. The care home states they cater for people with MS but I am the only person in here with MS and there is a lack of knowledge on this condition as most of the residents here are elderly or have dementia/Alzheimer's. Many of the carers are very good and
do their best but not enough carers to cope. Food is variable. I enjoy the visiting dogs and I am treated with dignity and feel safe.

We have worked very hard over the past months to ensure staffing levels are maintained to ensure our residents are well looked after and safe at all times. I am pleased to confirm we have an abundance of staff within the home, resulting in zero agency staff working within the home. We have multiple shower facilities within the home which are used by residents regularly, but if you would like to discuss these facilities further we would be delighted to help even further. We are working hard to increase our awareness and knowledge of MS across the home, and have been able to provide evidence of the steps taken to ensure that care is provided at the highest standard. If there is something you would like to highlight to us, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns further. We conduct catering surveys weekly to ensure that we improve on any feedback received in relation to the food we serve in the home. We also provide bespoke meals across the home, which has proved popular with many residents in the home.

My mother has been in Shawcross Care Home for nearly four years. I know 24 hours a day she is in good hands, clean, safe and comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who work hard and are always on hand. The home is welcoming, clean and well managed.

Sometimes my wife needs assistance and depending on the staff on duty this isn't always met when I am visiting. I visit during the evening and find that staff are too busy at night to put her to bed before I leave, which means I leave later than planned so I can see her comfortable.
Overall, the home
is good, clean with good facilities but could benefit from more staff.

I think that this care home overall is good. Sometimes my nan can be taken to bed too late or too early. Sometimes families concerns aren't acted on immediately, but I understand they are busy.

The home is clean with a wide range of food/choice given, staff are friendly and helpful but run off their feet (understaffed). My reason for this is when asked to attend to Mum, they sometimes say they are doing something else. The facilities are good, they have a hairdresser coming in weekly, and
Mum has started to have regular baths.
Overall, I would say the home have made improvements but there is still room for improvement. I have voiced my concerns but feel these aren't taken onboard as quickly as I would like.

For the short length of time dad has resided at the home, I found the staff extremely helpful and pleasant.

After a very upsetting time having ot choose nursing accommodation so quickly, the staff made the transition much easier to deal with. Very welcoming, helpful and caring. Everybody in the home finds time to speak and update you daily. Would certainly recommend.

Anoj

Anoj Kochera

Job Title: Home Manager at Shawcross Care Home, Wigan

Anoj has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for over 20 years. He loves being able to make positive changes in his residents’ lives. He has a Level 4 NVQ in General Nursing and Psychiatry, a Registered Manager’s Award and a qualification in Mentorship Training. He spent 10 years working in a Psychiatric Hospital before changing his career path to caring for the elderly. As Home Manager, Anoj loves utilising his leadership skills by being a supportive role model for his team, to build their confidence, self-worth and drive. When he isn’t working, Anoj likes playing football and going on hikes. He is also very family-minded and loves to spend time with them whenever he can.
