The dedicated and professional care team at Broadoak Manor care home design a comprehensive activity programme, supporting those living at the home to enjoy the things they love most.

All the members including nurses, cleaners and carers, were very helpful and caring. Lovely atmosphere, and a lovely place for a loved one to stay in. Thank you.

Most staff and residents looked dirty, with dirty uniforms. Toilet paper on toilet floors and passageways. Incontinence pads left on the floor of rooms and also left beside sink. One pad found under resident's pillow! Activities are television 24/7 or armchair exercises. Communication poor between resident's
family and themselves, to the point of non-existant. Carers appear to sit around dining tables talking rather than talking to residents or actively doing duties.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We have also responded to your Google review and your relative's review. We apologise you had concerns around cleanliness, we have discussed this with our housekeeping teams. We reviewed all our staffs' uniforms on site and did not find any colleagues wearing dirty uniforms, but we will continue to monitor this. The unit discussed is managed with the local hospital for residents who stay for a very short time; this unit does have activity staff who focus on activities such as exercises, quizzes and bingo. Our activity team plan a range of activities on our core units such as days out, singers and theatres, however we are unable to plan as such for this unit as most residents would be discharged by the time of the activity. Poor communication between myself and staff looking after relative. Social services extremely poor. Bedroom not cleaned properly. No attempt made to ensure my relative received her own clothing from the laundry, even though all clothing was named and with the room number.

We are sorry you had concerns about your relatives stay on our step-down unit used in conjunction with the local hospital to help relieve pressure on acute beds. As discussed, social services must move people to suitable placements as quickly and safely as possible, to ensure beds are available for those who need them the most. We apologise you did not find the bedroom to a good standard and had issues with laundry, we have raised this with our housekeeping lead and team. We have also addressed your concerns raised via letter.

Overall, very good experience. Would have been happier if there had been a way to indicate whether a buzzer press was for an emergency other than a service call.
Also, would have appreciated a wheelchair with leg support as I would then have been able to leave my room.

When the buzzer is pressed, the system creates a general call for assistance but if not responded to within three minutes, it is escalated to a priority call to alert staff. We apologise you did not have the option of a wheelchair leg raiser; specific equipment must be provided by the hospital as we do not provide this. We will pass your comments on to the NHS team who commission the beds.

The unit, Ravon, at Broadoak Manor Care Home is very good. All the staff are caring and very friendly. They all seem to go the extra mile, you only have to ask and it's done straight away. The cleanliness is excellent, the food is lovely from what I have seen, even though it's coming up to Christmas.
The staff all put in for decorations for the Christmas tree and the building.
All in all, the care facilities are excellent.
P.S. My mother always said she would not go in a care home, even for respite, but she is enjoying it.

My nan only spent several months at Broadoak Manor Care Home, in Havana House, but what an impact the staff had on her and on us as a family. They cared for her as if she was part of their family. Every single staff member in Havana House went above and beyond to make sure my nan felt safe, happy, cared
for and loved. During the last few weeks of my nan's life, they did everything they could to keep up her quality of life taking her the zoo, cinema and letting her come home with family for a few hours when she could and make sure we, as a family could visit any time of the day. Staff all came in to say their goodbyes to my nan, even coming in on their days off to see her one last time, all with tears in their eyes. This was so lovely too see for us, as a family, because we knew our nan had the best care in the last months of her life. Thank you all so much, one staff member in particular and all your team really are amazing.

Couldn't thank the team at Havana House more for everything they did for our lovely nan, who stayed in their care up until October when she sadly passed away. Having to put nan into a home was a very hard decision for the entire family and you can go from being worried to lots of guilt, but visiting
nan throughout her stay and then the time we got to spend with her in her final weeks, you could clearly see how the staff treated nan in the most caring and loving way. All of the staff who support the patients and the up keep of the facility are so friendly and welcoming and made time to speak to you when passing. During nans final days, seeing staff coming in to say their goodbyes, some even on their days off was just incredible to see and made us all, as a family, beyond grateful nan was placed in Havana House. The care and attention they gave us all, to ensure we had what we needed whilst with nan, was second to none. Thank you to one staff member in particular and the entire team!

We as a family will always be forever grateful for the amazing staff in Havana House and the care they provided for our gorgeous nana. She was made to feel at home and settled here almost straight away. One staff member in particular and her team went above and beyond, for not just our dancing queen
but for the whole family also.

My nan moved into Havana house at the beginning of this year. She unfortunately lost her battle with dementia recently, the staff here are unbelievable. Like nothing I've ever seen before in the care industry. I myself having worked in care was blown away by how personal my nans care felt. During her
last days, staff were coming in on their days off to say goodbye. As we sat at her bedside for days on end, they couldn't do enough even getting us out the room for 10 mins while they set up a surprise afternoon tea for us to share as a family. There are too many to name but one staff in particular and her team are in my opinion the most incredible people. It's so comforting to feel like in her last months she was as loved by them as she was us. We are forever grateful to you all.

What can I say about Havanah House at Broadoak Manor Care Home, I would definitely recommend.
My mum was there until her death on 7th Cctober 2024 and she loved it. The staff from cleaners to nurses are amazing, they were thoughtful kind and always attentive to mum and kept us informed of everything.
She didn't like to be on her own and every time we went to visit (which was at different times and unannounced) there would be always someone sitting with her. Havannah House has a lovely family feel always clean and welcoming and mum loved the activities and days out. We always felt comfortable visiting. During mums last days, the staff could not do enough for us with cooked breakfast, tea, coffee, juice and sandwiches for lunch. They really made what could of been a horrible experience into a peaceful and loving one. I really feel like we owe all the staff so much as they made mum feel safe and loved when we weren't able to be there. I will be forever grateful to you all. So from bottom of my heart thank you.

My mum was transferred from hospital to Ashton House in Broadoak Manor Care Home in St Helens. We had three social workers and felt Mum was being left in limbo. Management and staff have been so caring and supportive to not only my mum but to all of her family.
The professionalism and caring from cleaners,
carers, nurses and management has given me hope again. This is how all care homes should be. Thank you to everyone looking after my mum.

We've had a lot of bad experiences with care homes, and Broadoak Manor has been a breath of fresh air. The staff treat Dad like a person, not just a bum on a seat. It's the little things I appreciate like he is always wearing his glasses, and they are always clean. Small things like that show the level
of care the staff have for the residents. Any concerns we have are taken seriously and addressed immediately. Could not recommend the dementia unit enough. They are amazing.

The staff on Havannah House are hardworking and caring. They treat my husband as a highly valued member of the unit. Since being here, they have been instrumental in healing a grade 4 pressure ulcer on his heel acquired in another home. Despite the difficulties they face each day, they remain calm and
polite. My husband has improved since being here. At the risk of sounding dramatic, but they saved his life. I would definitely recommend this unit.

I have resided at Broadoak Manor Care Home for approximately four to five weeks (Ashton unit). I have only experienced good. I made myself at home after about two days, helped greatly by staff, make me feel looked after and cared for.
I also made some friends amongst some residents.

My husband had vascular dementia. A patient in this care home. Paying over £5,000 a month, basic rooms, no ensuite. Often short-staffed on his unit. They used agency staff a lot. He lost weight, fell a few times, slept a lot in his day clothes, at night, left in wet/soiled pads which I changed myself
very often. I was a regular visitor, almost every day. In October/November 2023, new alarm systems/pressing pads were installed in bedrooms and corridors. On 24/11/2023, my husband got out of bed into the corridors in the early hours and fell very badly. Why wasn't this activated? Where were the staff? He was taken to A&E where it was found he had a fractured hip, they operated on him the next day. He went downhill from there and died on 25/12/2023. He was 89 years old. I reported the fall to social services at the time. I also complained by letter to their head office in Darlington. I never got an answer or an apology.

I find the staff on Havana Unit to be very pleasant and go out of their way to help service users and their families with any help they need etc. I have seen staff hugging service users when they're upset or distressed, I think that is so lovely of them, and I would recommend Havana Unit to anybody
who needs to go into a nursing home. Staff dance with their service users and make them feel loved and surely see them as family, this is so lovely to watch from a family's eyes, makes their stay so much easier knowing they are well looked after and loved. Thank you.

What does kindness mean to you?


“Getting to know our Residents, their history, likes and dislikes. I really enjoy sitting and having a chat, getting to know peoples’ life stories and history, and sharing mine too.”


As a Registered Adult Nurse, Patrick has gained many years of experience in providing care and support for older people to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest possible standards of care and quality of life for Residents.


Patrick shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. He uses his experience to motivate his team to deliver care and support in a way that Residents gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Patrick remarked:


“Meeting new people, in my job I speak to a lot of Residents, families, friends, Colleagues and professionals from the community.”


Outside of work, Patrick enjoys travelling and cruises, with his favourite place to visit being the USA. He also says his biggest achievement was when he finished university and registered as a nurse, as he was able to save up and buy a house with a garden, so he could get a pet dog.
