Mum received care at Abbendon through to the end of life, and we could not have asked for a better level and standard of care than she got at Abbendon. The staff were genuinely interested in her well-being and treated her as an individual, giving her the freedom to express herself as far as she was
able. The atmosphere was always loving and supportive (including towards visitors), and Abbendon felt like a family home. Mum was treated with dignity, and the level of care provided by the staff was exemplary. Highly recommended.

Husband was placed in this home for respite care by our doctor earlier in the year and as the quality of care was first class when I was extremely stressed I asked the matron if I could use the facility once more. The stage of his dementia was not as severe as most of the other residents but I knew
the care he would receive would be excellent. The home has recently changed ownership and this has benefitted the staff and residents greatly. I am truly thankful to all the staff for the help and friendship I received during stressful times.

Placing a loved one into a nursing home is a very anxious time. There are all kinds of issues to be addressed. I would have no problem recommending Abbendon, the staff are so kind, the residents are treated with dignity, the care they are given is excellent, they are well-fed, always clean, they have
regular music acts who come in to entertain. The rooms are clean and comfortable and you can visit at any time, no restrictions.

From the moment my mum moved into Abbendon she was so well looked after and cared for.
She was treated with dignity and respect.
In her final days, nothing was too much trouble for both my mum, family and friends. Always a smile from all the staff.

This has been an excellent choice of nursing home for my father who has dementia.
They have been so kind and supportive through the most difficult time in our family's life.
My Dad has now got a good quality of life with staff who treat him like their own family.
I cannot rate this nursing home and
staff highly enough.
It truly is a perfect place to reside.

Mum has been a resident since Feb 18. She has progressive supranuclear palsy which is an uncommon brain disorder which affects movement, walking, balance, speech, swallowing, vision, mood, behaviour and thinking.
Mum has had a few episodes of panic (where she needs an injection) with swallowing difficulties
and the staff are able to deal with her anxiety without the need for a hospital trip.
The manager, nurses and all the care staff have taken excellent care of mum and we as a family feel welcome and also supported.
Abbendon has never cared for someone with PSP and they should be commended for the care given.

The care and attention my uncle has received cannot be faulted. Visitors are welcomed at any/all times as there is 'nothing to hide'. All the residents are treated with dignity and spoken to with kindness and respect. I personally cannot speak more highly of the staff at the Abbendon and especially
the sister who runs a tight ship whilst maintaining a welcoming home for all residents and their families.

My mum has been at Abbendon Nursing Home since August 2018. My family and I cannot fault the care and dedication of all the staff and carers. I would highly recommend this nursing home. It is good to have peace of mind knowing that she is being cared for by such lovely friendly people.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.704)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.704) out of 10 for Abbendon Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.804 for Abbendon Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (86 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.804

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbendon Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
