Birkdale Park is a delightfully converted Edwardian property set within beautifully maintained grounds. Established in 1988 it is only a short walk away from the shops of Lord Street, the trees of Victoria Park or the sands of Southport Beach and Promenade.

The home provides 24 hour care for geriatric, stroke, convalescent and terminally ill patients, including: residential, respite, nursing and advance palliative care.

Through a planned programme of care, in partnership with the service user, Birkdale Park will endeavour to cater for each person's individual needs, ensure freedom of choice, preserve dignity, promote independence, encourage autonomy and, with health and safety taken into consideration, continue care in a setting as near as possible to their normal home environment.

All staff are highly trained and are rigorously selected including a comprehensive police check with the DBS.

Funding Nursing Care (FNC) if assessed and granted is retained by the Birkdale Park to cover the necessary costs for the specialist nursing care and clinical supervision for that individual. Weekly hair dressing is available and approx ÂŁ12-ÂŁ20 dependent on treatment eg Cut and Blow - Cut and Set. Other chargeable services could include physio or podiatry. All rooms have TV and WIFI. There are no other costs.

After suffering a minor stroke, my mother was transferred from the hospital to Birkdale Park for ongoing care. She has been looked after very well. The atmosphere is very friendly and loving, and it gives her and us total assurance of first-class care and support during her stay here.

My mum had been in Birkdale Park in a step-down bed following a fall in her home in January, she was transferred there from Hospital, she was there until July 10th. I found the home to be quite dated although work is in progress updating. The home was very clean and the food very good. I found the staff
to be friendly and caring towards my Mum. Unfortunately, the only downside was the manager who I found very unprofessional and lacking in communication with the family. Someone uncaring who didn't take the time to get to know his residents. Please don't be fooled by his weekly online videos.

I also welcome the 5 Star reviews you have provided for care, food, dignity, cleanliness etc. I agree aspects of the nursing home appear dated. This is not surprising as a converted Victorian dwelling. It is also equipped with the latest facilities and rooms with views onto our landscaped gardens. I fully sympathise that you were upset that we asked you to find another home for your mum but we were unable to effectively manage her behaviours. I must thank you for recognising that I provide a weekly video update to all relatives. Birkdale Park is one of the few care homes in UK that provide this service. Other families comment and value our effective communication so I must apologise if this was not your experience. I do hope your Mum is now settled in her new home. Since the very first day my mum has been at Birkdale Park, I feel she has been well looked after and professionally cared for by all members of staff - from the reception, the visitors get to the constant care and vigilance displayed by all other staff. I can tell by the improvement in my mum's demeanour
and appearance this has been a constant and has led to her successfully transitioning to another home where there is less need for nursing care. Thank you.

My family member is quite content at Birkdale Park. She likes the routine of what goes on, especially the days she gets visitors. She is a very social person and loves to chat with the staff and residents. The one thing she finds hard is the limit on how many times she is taken out. Usually about one
and a half hours a week. I know time is limited and I suppose everyone wants to go out but this does affect her. At the moment we rely on the care home for this as my husband works nights, and I myself work full time and have my mum to look after who has Parkinson’s disease.
Other than that she is quite happy and realises she is better off and more cared for than if she had stayed at home.

My dad was at Birkdale Park for the final years of his life. The love and care he received during those years was wonderful. He felt safe and at home and he particularly loved the food! We are so grateful to all the staff who looked after him and made his final weeks and days as comfortable as they

Our mum has been here over a month now, and it is such a relief to know she is here in safe hands; given her needs, she could not be anywhere better. Each day the commitment of staff who work together as a fabulous team is a huge reassurance to us. Their affectionate care for Mum is outstanding. Genuine
kindness, efficiency, great communication with family, good humour and professionalism are real hallmarks of this nursing home. Today, on Mum's Birthday, the wonderful team have together made it a very special day for her and for us. Precious memories have been created.

It was our first visit to see my mum as we live in Cornwall now. We were very impressed with all the staff, from the receptionist, cook, entertainment, and of course, the nursing staff. The nurses are a credit to the home and cannot be more passionate and kind to the people staying in the home. Both
myself and my wife would like to thank everyone for the care they are giving to my mum; it gives me peace of mind that she is safe and well looked after.

My experience of Birkdale Park Nursing Home, is that the staff are incredible. It is a very well-run nursing home. All staff members are caring and always happy to help. I believe it is a tailored care that they provide. Meals are cooked fresh and no complaints from my father. My father is very well
cared for in this establishment and loves all the staff. I couldn't imagine my father living anywhere else apart from Birkdale. My thanks go to every staff member here.

All staff are very helpful and willing to find out answers to questions. They go out of their way to assist you in helping your loved one to be comfortable. Willing to listen and take action when we explain loves ones' needs, likes and dislikes.

My husband was only in Birkdale Park for a very short time on end of life care. From the moment he arrived both he and all his family were welcomed into the homes extended family. Birkdale Park takes a holistic approach and cares for the families of residents as well as the resident themselves. From
the manager down the staff are exceptional and really care for and about their residents. My husband was treated with dignity and respect at all times, when there were no visitors, the staff sat and chatted with him, given how busy they are, this was very much appreciated. I cannot recommend Birkdale Park highly enough. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making his last days as comfortable and pain-free as possible.

Overall I feel Birkdale Park has been the best place we could have found for mum with the resources at our disposal. The carers really do care. Mum's room is kept clean and she always has clean clothes and bedding. The carers show compassion and interest in mum and have been very kind and thoughtful
with dad when he visits too. Birkdale Park has been managed particularly well throughout the COVID pandemic and families of residents have been kept informed at all stages. All staff have worked really hard.

My sister transferred to Birkdale Park a few years ago as her previous home was closing. Although anxious at first, it was the best thing for my sister. The staff encouraged her to come out of her room more and use the lounges and courtyard where my sister has developed friendships and joined in the
activities within the home. In addition to the activities in the home, my sister has enjoyed trips out on the rickshaw for ice cream along the promenade, minibus trips to gardens centres and even a trip to Blackpool. It is a new lease of life for her being a resident at Birkdale Park.

My sister has been in Birkdale Park for over two years now. She is happy, well-fed, and looked after at all times. Staff are very attentive, and ensure the home is kept clean and all residents are given the best of care. If I ever need to go into care I hope I'm lucky enough to go into a place like
this. It doesn't look or smell like a care home, and all the residents are treated with dignity and care.

My mum has been in Birkdale Park for 2 1/2 years now, I cannot recommend this place enough. All the staff which includes everyone in the building is caring kind and thoughtful. I have been so grateful throughout Covid for the care given to mum and the safety she has received, we have been given updates
at very regular intervals including zoom meeting, Skype and walk rounds to ensure us of the wellbeing of our relatives. The staff are caring and considerate to mum and myself approachable and friendly nothing seems too much trouble and importantly to me laughter can be heard throughout the building when I visit making it a happy place. Mum had a pacemaker fitted at the age of 97 and has recovered remarkably with the help and care from the staff, she has a lovely single room with her personal belongings around her. Thank you, Birkdale Park. I would strongly recommend it to everyone.

My mum was in Birkdale Park for two and a half weeks. I can honestly say she was so well cared for. The care and support was given not only to her but to myself too. My dad very much enjoyed his stay at Birkdale Park and particularly appreciated the care and dedication of the staff. He has strengthened significantly during his stay and is now in a position to move to a residential home. I found the staff (both management and operational) to be very good, helpful
and considerate with a particularly sensitive and evitably accommodating approach to the interaction between the resident (my dad) and his family. I also appreciated the warmth, friendship and openness/franchises in their engagement with me, my dad and the ability to bring humour in an appropriate manner to a tough situation.

Jonathan Cunningham

Job Title: Registered Care Manager

Joined: 2016

Jonathan is the Registered Care Manager and eldest son of the owner Mrs Cunningham. Birkdale Park is very special to Jonathan as it is where he grew up as a child and watched the home convert into a nursing home in the mid 1980s. Room 27 is his old bedroom! Jonathan has had a varied career. He spent 16 years in the Army reaching the rank of Major, he was awarded an MBE in 2010 for operational service and now uses all his leadership skills at Birkdale Park leading his amazing care team. He has been awarded multiple awards for services to social care and is a regular voice and face on radio and TV speaking about his passion for elderly care. He loves his team and his role as a registered care manager. He is the continuity over the care home and provides a calm hand of reassurance to staff, residents and relatives. He describes himself as the 'Captian of the ship' as the buck stops with him. All relatives have his personal mobile number so you have fabulous connection with the home and continual reassurance that your loved one is in good hands.
