Birkdale Park is a delightfully converted Edwardian property set within beautifully maintained grounds. Established in 1988 it is only a short walk away from the shops of Lord Street, the trees of Victoria Park or the sands of Southport Beach and Promenade.

The home provides 24 hour care for geriatric, stroke, convalescent and terminally ill patients, including: residential, respite, nursing and advance palliative care.

Through a planned programme of care, in partnership with the service user, Birkdale Park will endeavour to cater for each person's individual needs, ensure freedom of choice, preserve dignity, promote independence, encourage autonomy and, with health and safety taken into consideration, continue care in a setting as near as possible to their normal home environment.

All staff are highly trained and are rigorously selected including a comprehensive police check with the DBS.

Funding Nursing Care (FNC) if assessed and granted is retained by the Birkdale Park to cover the necessary costs for the specialist nursing care and clinical supervision for that individual. Weekly hair dressing is available and approx £12-£20 dependent on treatment eg Cut and Blow - Cut and Set. Other chargeable services could include physio or podiatry. All rooms have TV and WIFI. There are no other costs.

Since mum was admitted in December the team have been great with both her and our family, through some difficult times. They have helped facilitate contact via visits and phone calls and it's now great to be able to visit on a regular basis. The care and contact have been exceptional and the hygiene
in the building has been the best I have experienced in any similar facilities.

My friend was only here for 5 weeks but I was impressed by the friendliness of all the staff and their cheery attitudes. All were helpful in trying to meet my friend's needs. They were also caring and compassionate in their dealing with me.

Communication prior to admittance was excellent and on arrival. All staff very approachable, professional with care and dignity. Personal care and in house staff transformed my mum. Hairdressing, nails polished, clean clothes at all times. I saw her (via first-floor window due to covid). Mum arrived
with badly long dirty nails form the hospital, Birkdale Park immediately cut and cleaned her nails. Her overall care and well being is a credit to them, A big thank you - sorry Mum had to move on.

I would like to thank the manager and his team at Birkdale Park who looked after my mum after a terrible stroke during a very traumatic time for the family. The Management and the staff who cared for my mum could not have been more professional but equally as important they were gentle with her. She
had lost her memory and most of her eyesight and was extremely confused. Despite this, the staff were always on hand to help and encourage my mum. We as a family felt that mum was safe and also felt comfortable talking to the nursing staff who provided us with peace of mind that mum was being looked after. Nursing staff have a tough job and the staff at Birkdale Park went the extra mile with my mum. Thank you very much to the manager and the staff including the Admin team.

My mother-in-law moved into Birkdale Park in October 2020. I have always found the care she received to be exemplary. From moving in there until she passed away in March, she was shown nothing but love and care. All the staff are so friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for my mother-in-law. I
highly recommend this care home.

Our mum who was aged 77 has been in Birkdale Park for the last 4 years. She was admitted straight from hospital originally for respite for my dad aged 83 at the time. Sadly within 3 months, my dad passed away. Mum has dementia and is unable to live alone. Birkdale Park has been her ‘home’ for 4 years
and I have to say particularly over the last year this place has got better and better and I would highly recommend if you are in the dilemma of choosing care for your relative look no further.

Mum has been a resident at Birkdale Park since May 2019. I visited many nursing homes before I chose Birkdale Park. The attention to detail and having the best interests of the residents are clearly apparent, and this shows in so many ways. Mum has been very happy; her room is bright and welcoming.
All the staff are kind, thoughtful and considerate, nothing is to much trouble for them.
Most of the staff have worked there for a long time, which I think is important as they get to know Mum well. Staff always have Mums best interest at heart.
The home is kept extremely clean. Mum has regular visitors who are always made very welcome.
The manager is always available and is keen to meet our as needs as a family; he is very helpful and supportive.
I highly recommend this home.

My aunty has been there for nearly two years and at first, any home seemed not the ideal place as we were very upset. This place has been a godsend as it’s really looking, after all, it’s residents and making every effort to keep everyone happy and safe. They couldn’t do more. We see a video every day
and can look into everything that is happening to our loved one every day. They seem really happy. We can video call if we want to and send messages. All the staff are so lovely and helpful. I’m glad we picked this care home.

Birkdale Park is a first-rate nursing home providing excellent care. The home has a lovely atmosphere and is very welcoming.
Flexible kitchen staff adhere to Mum’s likes and dislikes, even accommodating her special coffee. There are lots of activities to keep the residents entertained; from crafts
to live music being streamed.
Mum has also been out in the rickshaw and enjoyed an ice cream.
Nothing is too much trouble - the whole team do an amazing job and are always on hand to offer whatever support they can; no more than at present with the Coronavirus pandemic. The manager keeps relatives up to date with a daily e-mail and video walk around with an open and honest approach.
The family also has the opportunity to video call Mum; which gives some comfort whilst we’re not in a position to visit.
The team are hard-working, dedicated, respectful, and we appreciate the care Mum is receiving.

My cousin has been receiving continuous care in Birkdale Park for nearly 10-months. Because I live in a different area and have other "vulnerable" relatives to attend to regularly in my locality, I have only managed to visit my cousin in this care home three times during his stay there. However, I can
honestly say that this care home is an absolute delight to visit. The staff have always been so welcoming; it has always been clean, tidy and fresh smelling. I can tell from my cousin's demeanour that he is so pleased and happy to have Birkdale Park look after him in the kindly and professional way that they do. Please keep up the good work Birkdale park; you run an establishment to be very proud of.

My aunty is in Birkdale Park and has been there for the past three years and in that time has received excellent care from all the staff. All the staff are very friendly and caring, from the cleaners to the carers and the catering staff. We as a family are quite content to leave her there knowing she
is receiving the best care possible. It is a very clean and comfortable home and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. During the terrible coronavirus, the Manager of the home does a daily walkabout which he videos so that we can see our loved ones, as we are not allowed to physically visit and it puts our mind at rest. If there is anything wrong in normal times, we are informed straight away by telephone. Normally they provide entertainment and have their hair done. My aunty, unfortunately, has dementia and is treated with dignity. We would be very happy to recommend this home to everyone.

The support that both the residents and families have received during this disruptive and challenging time has been second to none. Families are given daily updates, by the manager, via a video recording. It is clear from the daily reports that every effort is being made to keep both the wonderful staff
and those in their care, safe and well.

I am so grateful for the care my father is receiving, especially at this time when I cannot see him. The daily walkabout video lets me get a look at him even though he is more often than not asleep! I can tell that he is getting the care he needs just by those glimpses of him - looks clean and groomed
with a drink right next to him. Staff are so helpful when I phone to see how he is and if he needs anything dropping off. Thank you to all Birkdale Park staff.

Mum's care throughout her stay at Birkdale Park has been excellent, from her first welcome into this "home from home". All members of staff, without exception, have shown sincere kindness, respect and compassion to Mum as she has been treated as a family member along with other residents. Nothing has
ever been too much trouble and all staff have gone above and beyond for Mum's care and all of Mum's family and friends visiting. Birkdale Park is unlike other nursing homes. It is a special place with special people that individualises every resident's stay to ensure every day is special.

Jonathan Cunningham

Job Title: Registered Care Manager

Joined: 2016

Jonathan is the Registered Care Manager and eldest son of the owner Mrs Cunningham. Birkdale Park is very special to Jonathan as it is where he grew up as a child and watched the home convert into a nursing home in the mid 1980s. Room 27 is his old bedroom! Jonathan has had a varied career. He spent 16 years in the Army reaching the rank of Major, he was awarded an MBE in 2010 for operational service and now uses all his leadership skills at Birkdale Park leading his amazing care team. He has been awarded multiple awards for services to social care and is a regular voice and face on radio and TV speaking about his passion for elderly care. He loves his team and his role as a registered care manager. He is the continuity over the care home and provides a calm hand of reassurance to staff, residents and relatives. He describes himself as the 'Captian of the ship' as the buck stops with him. All relatives have his personal mobile number so you have fabulous connection with the home and continual reassurance that your loved one is in good hands.
