I find the overall home good, with some exceptional staff. I feel the home lacks enough activities. More entertainment should be provided or trips out. I'm sure if asked, friends and relatives would help. But on the whole, more day to day activities.

Very attentive staff and treated my aunt's death with the utmost respect, even turned up at the funeral (on a day off).
The home was clean and tidy and plenty of activities if wanted.

I am really pleased with the quickness of assessment in hospital and admission to the unit. Staff and nurses care for all his palliative care.

Mum has been here since February 2018. Took a couple of months to settle but has done and seems happy as she can be.
I have not as much worry as I know mum is being looked after.

St Nicholas Care Home looked after my husband so well.
He was in Gladstone House for three to four years but when his condition deteriorated, he was moved to Huskinson House. I cannot praise the staff too much.
They all treated him with very loving respect and on his difficult days they appealed to
his sense of humour. Their pastoral care was also extended to me which I greatly appreciated. Gladstone House now has the care of my best friend of 50 years on my recommendation.

My dad settled in very well as the staff were friendly, concerned and interested in him as an individual. His room is clean, spacious and clothes well laundered. On every visit, he is clean and tidy. He enjoys his food and he is shown consideration when he prefers to remain a little longer in bed. There
is usually a relaxed atmosphere, but other residents, if feeling unsettled, are dealt with patiently.

The staff on the unit where my sister lives are kind, caring and competent. They do their best to optimise her health and wellbeing.
The funding level nationally and locally does hamper them providing excellent care, for there is insufficient funding to regularly promote community presence for the
residents. This is a real shame as many of them are only middle aged.
The quality of the food has improved since my complaint, packet (smash) potatoes has no place in residential care menu's.

We are confident that our uncle is being looked after well. The staff are pleasant and approachable. Our visits are not very frequent due to commitments so our observations below are based on what we have seen. We are confident that if any problem does arise HC One will contact us. We think this care
home is expensive because self-funding clients are in the minority and therefore subsidise the clients funded by the local authority. It is unfair on people who have worked hard to fund their own retirement.

Staff always helpful and caring. Some areas of rooms could do with more attention in the cleaning issues. The chairs that the residents sit in could do with a 6 monthly clean and also side of the removable bed covers should also do with the same.

It's coming up to a year since my dad became a resident. His needs are met by the staff which can be very challenging for both. They are very warm and friendly, I never feel worried when I leave my dad.

At the time of writing, my mother has been in care for coming up to three years. I have been satisfied with the overall care and attention she has received, she is comfortable, enjoys her food so have I from time to time, compliments to the kitchen staff, and her room is kept clean to a good standard.
The unit staff keep me informed of any minor issues regarding mum's condition.

Myself and family could not thank the staff enough for the care my nan received in the final 5 weeks of her life. She stayed in Langton. The staff were so accommodating, friendly and caring to my nan and all the family.
Nothing was ever too much for them, they sorted things straight away. They also
made it our home too.
We will be forever grateful and appreciate it so much and could never repay them for the love and hospitality they showed us.
I would highly recommend it for a loved one.

Current Review Score: 6.5 (6.506)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.5 (6.506) out of 10 for St Nicholas Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.3 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.324 for St Nicholas Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (17 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 3.324

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.182 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Nicholas Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 176 registered maximum number of service users is 35.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 35.2 = 0.057

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
