My dad has recently moved in and has settled in really well. The staff are lovely and he is really responding well to them. We unfortunately had an episode where he was really poorly and the staff treated him so well. Their response with the medical teams went above and beyond, their support to both
dad and the family was exceptional. We will be forever grateful to them for treating us so well. I would not hesitate in recommending Abney Low to anyone.

Permanent staff provide good care and are engaging with residents and family. Some care isn't consistent due to agency workers being used. Communication is sometimes difficult with staff. No top up fees means this home is good value for money. In summary my dad is happy and settled and feel good quality
of care given. Building is a bit dated but always clean.

My mum joined the other residents in November 2024. She has settled so well. I am more than happy with the care and attention she has received. I am comforted when I leave Mum there because she is looked after so well.

My nan has been here for 2 years, she has dementia and is not good with change, all the staff helped her settle in so quickly without any problems. The care they give is outstanding treating her with love and care always. We often find a member of staff just sitting with her giving her some company.
The staff are laughing and joking and keep everyone upbeat. Fantastic home, couldn't ask for more.

My mum has been under the care of the nurses and staff since she's been here. All the staff have been amazing in making Mum feel comfortable with their friendly, caring attitude. The nurses are brilliant keeping me up to date with Mum's medical conditions and always ring with the latest development
regarding Mum's health. I can confirm that all the staff that have been in contact with Mum have given her the highest level of care and love.

My husband has been a resident since February 2023, his first few months were quite difficult both for him and me. I feel like the last few months he has settled better with the help of good staff and management. If I need to seek help and advice about anything everyone is very helpful.

My father moved into The Anchorage in January 2022. The room he has is spacious and light. It needs to be decorated and a ramp is required so he can go out into the outside space. He feels safe and secure and is well looked after. Although the constant change in staff is a concern, he is well looked
after and quite often chooses to stay in his room. Overall, I would say The Anchorage and its staff are very good.

I have always found the staff extremely friendly and caring towards my mum. Whenever I visit my mum, she always has a happy demeanour and is well dressed. I can see that she has settled in the home and is "happy" being there. This brings me great comfort and I am very grateful for all of the hard work
of the staff to provide a safe and pleasant environment for my mum in her twilight years.

A warm welcome by staff and very friendly. My father has a ground-floor room which has patio doors looking out onto a small courtyard which my father likes. He seems contented and finds the staff very caring. The house is an old building which needs updating.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.128)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.128) out of 10 for Abney Low Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.778 for Abney Low Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.778

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.35 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abney Low Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.75

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
